How I got a 2010 Forum Moose/A review of Queen Cutlery

I'd take my knife that is well made and well fitted over a BF knife with problems even if mine came with a shield in the shape of a dog turd.

Let's be clear. Most of the BF knives are at least as well fitted as Billy's knives. In fact Billy's had more gaps in my experience. Queen improved that situation somewhat. The knives are essentially identical, with the masters reversed. Roland, you are lucky to get one that fits well, and most of the BF purchasers are as lucky.
Billy sold a lot of my knives, and we were in touch for a few years before he went back to teaching. I bought some of my best Harness Jacks from him way back when.
Lighter gauge knives are more "compliant" when assembled. These thick springs and blades do not assemble as tightly sometimes. Thick springed Ulsters and Empires I have repeat the tale. 90 years ago, same story!!
I own one of Billy's also, which is slightly gapped, but otherwise delightful. And it has that Mississippi tang stamp.
If I'm not mistaken, it's the first knife (knives actually - he had a fixed blade made also; a skinner) with a Mississippi stamp!

Charlie I apologize to you as re-reading my post i see how it seems to be an insult to the BF 2010 knife. My intention was to make a joke about the posts liking one shield better than another. Meaning that if you get a 'good' knife (any knife) a shield other than your preference is really the least important detail.
Sorry about coming across other than how i intended.

Well, actually a shield is important to the aesthetics of a knife and is of course entirely subjective. If it is regarded as marginal or least important where does this stop? Doesn't matter what the scales are, bolsters look like? Just so long as it 'works'. I rather think people DO consider the look of a knife too, if you are buying a custom made knife you don't say to the maker just put anything on it. GEC make good knives but issue some with a ridiculous guitar shield, nothing would persuade me to have one.

From my point of view, the Forum Knife nailed it with aesthetics. Mine was very well made too-I'm critical of build and don't revere any knife company uncritically.

Billy is Billy "Pup" Cochrane owner of Vintage knives. Nice guy...honest, good taste in knives both new and old, modern and traditional.

Thanks Elliott. To me a shield is the least important aspect of a knife, although when one falls off the knife sure looks ugly.

My 2010 Forum knife is excellent.

I'll take a tastefully done shield over no shield any time. I like the thin bar shield on the 2010 Forum knife over Billy's Vintage Knife in comparison, mainly because it is too thick and does not appear to be correct in dimension/true to period.

I find shields add to the aesthetic value, and are extremely important when it comes to vintage traditional knives. I pass bidding on quite a few for the simple reason the the knife is sans shield. Of course that is just my opinion.

And I agree nothing is uglier than when a shield falls off.

I love my 2010 Foum knife. Mine has excellent fit and finish. It now is sharing pocket time with my 2009 forum knife and my KH backpocket. To those whose knives are less than perfect, I am sorry. To those who brought me this one a GREAT BIG THANKS! Steven
