How many knives do you carry and why?

I usually carry just one at a time, and varies according to what I am doing.
At work: One of these: BM 710, Kershaw Whirlwind, CS TiLite
Off Work: ZT 0200, or CRKT Crawford Kasper
In the "woods": Folder is Spyderco Chinook 3 Fixed is either a Case smaller size hunter Or a Ontario RTAKII

I carry
* a Leatherman Micra for the screwdrivers.
* A Vic Classic for the toothpick and scissors
* A traditional in my front right pocket to do my cutting
* A one-hander in my rear right pocket in case I don't have two hands free when I need to cut something.

This is exactly what I do. The Vic Classic is on my key chain.

I carry at least one, usually just one, sometimes two or three.

My EDC choices vary but for my job, it's usually a SAK Deluxe Tinker and a Kershaw Clash. On the weekends I have a lot to choose from and which one I decide on depends on the scenario, dress, etc.

My church/dress knife is a Case Peanut.

A NiteIze pouch with a Leatherman Supertool 200 or 300, or occasional SOG Power Plier, a Spyderco Rescue in ATS55, a AA Maglite, and Sharpie on my belt. I wish Maxpedition made a similar pouch since NiteIze is making many of their products in mainland China and they don't last nearly as long as they used to. Where I drive every day, there's potential to come across a wreck and I may first there, hence the Rescue. And the Kabar Impact spear point in D2 and titanium crowbar in back of the truck. Keyring has a Res-Q-Me, Gerber Shard, and Boker Vox Access Tool. Since my current work facility frowns on blades over 2.5", sometimes a Blind Horse Frontier First Patch or Small Tiger Knapp, Becker Remora, or Gerber LST. Since pockets are never searched, though, the Griptilian or Endura sometimes sneak their way in.

1. Old Timer 3 blade stockman (the real one MADE IN THE USA), either watch pocket or right hand pocket, just because it's the honorable thing to do.
2. Kershaw JYD clipped to right hand pocket for SD
3. Kershaw Skyline clipped to my right hand rear pocket for most EDC chores
4. Leatherman Kick on the belt, I've carried a multi-tool for too many years to ever go without one.

That's everday, regardless of what I'm wearing or where I'm going.

At the civilian job: 0 (can't take them through arpt security)
At the military job: 1 (left arm pocket of the flight suit), usually a serrated SS Delica
Everywhere else: 1, depends what day of the week it is

Usually just one knife fits my needs.
I usually carry a 91 mm SAK (mostly a Tinker, or an alox one) or a medium/small (under 3,5'') folder.
A bigger SAK and a 3 to 4'' fixed blade for outdoors.
In my car I carry a Leatherman and a fixed blade too.

Most of the time I have:
Spyderco Bug on my keychain (I actually use it the most, since no one is going to be scared of the tiny little bug)
Leatherman Wave in my bag (has come in handy on many occasions)
Small or medium sized folder (depends on the situation, a lot of the time I don't even bring one)

Normally: 0
Hiking: 2, a small foldable and a fixed blade.

Once I was at this store and the clerk/sales guy was talking to a customer and I overheard him saying he carries 15 knives on him. He showed her every knife he had on him and he was in fact carrying knives all over him.... several on his waistband, several in his front and back pockets, and several of them on both ankles. And they were not throwing knives.... an assortment of foldable and fixed blades.

I think I had the biggest "wtf" face with my mouth hanging open.

He probably didn't have a safe he could leave his knives in. :p

But we are knife nuts here.

Depends on the day but my usual edc for work is a gerber multi tool, a beater like my old gator or a cheap ozark trail, and something for fine cutting lately that's been my kershaw leek

I normally carry one folder (either a Traditional or a Modern), and a bunch of small tools on my key ring. I have a fixed blade when out in the woods.

I always carry a Victorinox Classic on my key chain for cleaning my fingernails and for the scissors. Then I carry a pocket knife for general use which can be anything from a Case Peanut to a Victorinox Electrician, or any variety of Spyderco knife. Everyone knows when something needs to be opened to come to me, I am the guy that always has a knife.

My carry usually doesn't vary much between work and non-work, I tend to carry my Large Regular Sebbie with a Spyderco SS Cricket SE, along with my ST300 on my belt and a Spyderco Jester SE on my keychain. Lately, I have been carrying either my Military, or Para2, along with my Sebbie for work. I don't use my knives as much as in previous jobs that I've had, however, I feel more 'at ease' carrying more than what I need.....I guess my reasoning behind this is that '2 knives equals 1' rule.

Although, after 5+ years of dedicated carry, my Sebenza has NEVER let me down.

At work in my right pocket I carry a Spyderco Endura or a Benchmade 710 plain edge. Just because I love those knives.
In my left pocket I always had my serrated 710. I know some guys aren't down with a combo blade but I find it great for cardboard boxes. It's my work horse. Then in my suit jacket I have a SOG Flash I for when I need to use a blade in front of the Sheeple and don't want the sideways looks.

On days off I'll carry just one knife. Usually my Cold Steel AK 47 or Spyderco Endura. I carry those for every day cutting tasks.
I know some guys carry for self defense purposes but really it would take one hell of a bad situation for me to pull a knife out. The fall out would be terrible. I just carry for utility purposes.

At work I carry a Leatherman Wave on my duty belt, a Ka-bar TDI knife under my duty belt, a Benchmade AFCK in my pocket, and a CRKT Sting lashed to my right boot. All these "tools" are there to make sure that I make it home at the end of my shift. My EDC is a simply Benchmade Pika II or a Sog Trident depnding on how I feel for the day. This is going to change in the next few days, as I just came across a Benchmade Infidel that will be for duty carry and a Benchmade 3550 which will be my new EDC!!

right now one, because that's all I need. But when I worked landscape construction I would like one larger blade to deal with aggressive and dirty slicing and cutting. And a smaller knife that stayed more razor sharp and clean, and might be used to cut tape or thin rope, or whatever.

If I am doing something more construction related a leatherman works nicely, paired with a small folder when you need quick, one hand cutting done.

I carry a large tanto sebenza right rear pocket, burger lexk right front pocket.
I use the seb as a hard work folder, and the burger as my sheeple friendly slicer.

Before I got the burger, I carried the seb front right for edc/work and an 860 bedlam right rear for "sd" but never really carried it for that reason. I can't honestly say I was afraid for my safety... for whatever reason people have always left me alone.
