How many knives do you carry and why?

When I'm not traveling I typically carry either my Ti Sage 2 or my ZT 0350. I'm always wearing my Spartan Enyo necker.

I've been going lighter and enjoying one at a time. Part of carry to me is being adaptable and learning how different blade shapes work. So many knives, so little time. Recently been on a traditionals kick. damn, maybe that means I'm gettin old.

I know some guys carry for self defense purposes but really it would take one hell of a bad situation for me to pull a knife out. The fall out would be terrible. I just carry for utility purposes.

Agreed about the bad situation. I have a hard time thinking of knives as defensive weapons, although I do carry one for that purpose when I can't carry a pistol. I guess the reasoning there is that sometimes the best defense is an immediate and aggressive counter-offense.

I'm sure if I tried I could dream up all kinds of wild scenarios where a knife could serve a vital defensive role, but truthfully I'm more likely to use one in defense of someone else than in self-defense. Unfortunately, my occupation makes that more of a possibility than I'd like.

I typically carry two knives at a time a larger one handed folder and a smaller traditional slipjoint or SAK.

Usually 1 during the week: Vic Classic on the keys. I generally don't need anything larger at work, and anything more weighs down my pockets. On the weekends, I'll add either a peanut or maybe a Pacific Salt for general use.

4-5" fixed blade IWB
bark river PSK and sm sebbie in backpocket sheath
4" folder front right
Basically always 2 usally 3. One fixed, one folder, one for the left

In everyday life:
Spyderco Honeybee - Always with me, in the key chain.
Spyderco Persistence or Kershaw Half ton - Always with me in my backpack.

In the outdoors:
A small puukko (Ahti or some similar, usually a scandi grind)
A bigger tool, like a small axe or Kizlyar DV-2

My edc consists of
Large general utility knife: today ZT 350 in R.F.P.
Multitool: Generally a Leatherman squirt P4 on keys (with flash drive, peanut lighter, and a about 6 feet of king cobra wrapped 550 cord) which is often accompanied by My leatherman wave Carried on my belt horizontally at 4:00.
Sheeple friendly blade: Today my yellow delrin case pen knife which will eventually be replaced by a dammy and stag peanut.
Slicer/food prep/backup knife: Until recently was my modded vantage pro which i lost yesterday :..( , so today it was replaced by my kershaw skylineCarried I.W.B at 12:30.
Often another folder or small fixed blade finds it's way onto my person.

At work, I carry 2, maybe 3. An old case 2 blade pocket knife for what ever, an automatic Boker for one handed work when I'm up high (I climb towers), and if I'm climbing, I keep a CRKT M16-13DSFG clipped on my climbing harness near the middle of my chest for an emergency. When I'm just out and about, it's usually just one knife. depending on where 'm going, could be anything from just a little pocket knife to some type of tactical looking folder. 3 is a little overkill at work, but having dropped one a while back and having another to fish out of my pocket reminded me... 2 is 1 and 1 is none. Mark.

Usually 2. My Spyderco Superleaf and Kiwi 3. When I'm on campus the SL stays home though... :grumpy:

everyday since retirement, i carry a '08 vic alox soldier in my right pocket, and a ultrasharp case 3318 cv med. stockman, yellow handle.

ZT 0400 and ColdSteel Spartan and these are both to scare people.

man, iI'm a bit of scared right now...
those blades are quiet scary...and big, too
anyway, I always carry a SAK with me, sometimes a soldier, sometimes forester(for lite duty work, and like some said, right tool for right job) and a kabar BK14( fo heavy duty job, maybe some lite prying)
man I can't carry quiet a bit of things like you guys :( tho I want to.

Carried two for many a year. Like some others have said, I carry a large single blade, locking, pocket clipped, one hand opening folder, ie the modern tactical style folder, and then a medium sized traditional slipjoint folder. The large folder, for the past month, has been either a UE M1911 Standard folder, or a ZT0650st, while the slipjoint ranges between a Case, Steel Warrior, or Hammer Brand knife, with the HB9 being my current one.

I've found that the slipjoint does most all the work I need a knife for during a normal day, but I like to carry the large one because I love knives, and it is just something for me to admire when I have down time. At times it is nice to pull out something that is very unique,
knives that most people have no idea exist, and I get a kick out of seeing their faces and then explaining what it is. Of course when it comes to the price I sorta gloss over that as non knifers just don't understand.

I'm just a knifenut and have invested too much money in my knives to leave them at home, and even though I may not get to use them on a regular basis, I can still carry them and have them if I want to use, and/or enjoy them.:)

Generally a 3" one handed folder clipped RF pocket and my leatherman wave on my left hip.
Leatherman is for cutting boxes, packages, stuff that easily dulls my blades. One handed is for other primary cutting tasks and emergency SD.

i carry as many as mad max in beyond the thunderdoom, why ?, you never know:p:D

Today only 3.

A large fixed blade as a backup weapon mainly and a few utility tasks. The small hacksaw blade that’s in my Alotids tin gets used a lot for everything from opening boxes to cutting trough metal, very handy. The small knife in my Swiss card doesn’t get uses that much but its razor sharp.
