How many knives do you carry daily? And why?

When I was younger (and wilder), I used to carry five: a spear point in each boot, a switchblade in each pocket, and a more traditional folder on my belt. Why? The boot knives could be drawn when sitting, whereas the knives in my pockets couldn't be.

Now that I have a family, a good job, and a reason to avoid trouble, I carry only two: a tactical folder (Gerber Covert or CS Ti-Lite VI) and something that doesn't scare the liberals. Pulling out a Covert or Ti-Lite here in Olympia, capital of the People's Republic of Washington, tends to create mass panic. I made that mistake only once and spent the next 10 minutes trying to assure people I was just opening a box and wasn't going to hurt anyone. I miss Texas :(

Currently I only carry my Kershaw Leek and a Gerber multi-tool on my belt. However I'm pretty sure I'm going to be carrying my new Spyderco Scorpius in a few days. :)

since I work in a school my choices are limited. Usually:
Gerber Shortcut in jacket pocket.
Vic classic or Rambler in LF pants pocket. If I'm feeling bold I'll carry a mini-toothpick or peanut.

in that case mr. p239, i severely hope nobody ties you up, buries you, and takes your standard blade. that scene just made me think about how when you really do need a blade, you REALLY DO NEED a blade. Any of you looking for some kind of miniscule blade that you can hide absolutely anywhere, I recommend the ultimate pen knife.

None! I live in Not-So-Great Britain. :(

Ironically I live in Glasgow, Scotland - officially the knife crime capital of the UK.

Keep a Leatherman Micra on my car keys but that hardly counts...

I rotate between my Buck 199 and a Gerber Kiowa. I keep a Boker Magnum Auto in my Leather jacket's inside hidden pocket as a backup but have yet to have to use it. I will say I have not been impressed with Gerbers products as of late but the Kiowa is a Great sturdy little folder.

As a knife nut I'll always try something new,but for day-to-day I've gotten to like this set:

Left pocket:a yellow Salt1 Spyderco

Right pocket:Letherman sideclip (soon to get a kick ;) )

Upper left shirt pocket a SAK Cadet

Upper right SP:a stainless Douk-Douk.

The Letherman's knife blade never really get's used so it doesn't count.

5 folders,a sak,a fixedblade + a leatherman in my man bag.just like these knives

Whatever folder I feel like carrying, an SAK on my keychain, and possibly my LM charge, or a fixed blade.

Hello all --

I always, always, always, always carry my Benchmade AFO Auto, an older one without the silly safety switch. Just don't trust the switch, one more thing to cause a problem. Being handicapped I can legally carry this with me. It is a true workhorse. The one I'm now carrying has been with me for about 5 years now. The privious AFO I had was lost on a trip to Bston -- slid out of my pocket when I was getting out of a cab.

The second knife I try to have with me, in my belt pack, is a Wenger made Sears swiss army style knife. I have a nice one, looks like new, with a set of pliers along with all the normal SAK type tools. I have no idea how anyone can walk around without a knife like this n them. The old Sears Wengers look neat with te green scales with grooves cut into them. Easy to use and has saved the day move times than I can count.

I remember being in high school, back when it was legal to do so -- carrying a nice SAK, the Scientist model (no longer imported by Victorinox, but still available in Europe), with me at all times. Carried the same model when I was working as an engineer for many years. Then I ruined it on a vacation to the Carribean when I dropped it in the ocean and didn't rinse it out fast enough -- coral started to grow in it, ruining it. I managed to get a couple from a friend in Switzerland, but they now sit in my SAK Style drawer among all the variations I own. Sad, but what can I say?

A third knife is carried fr special jobs I might have to do. If I know I'll need to do a lot of cutting of any material, I bring a cheap but well made "work knife" to take the beating. Be it a hunting knife or a box cutter, use the right tool for the job. And I'm not going to use a $1500 handmade to whittle toys.

Two, sometimes three knives....

You're just a conservative in denial. :p

Perhaps I should have said "sheep"? Whatever term you want to apply, the majority of people here seem to be anti-gun, anti-knife, anti-military, anti-hunting, vegetarian, socialists (they hold May Day parades here, no joke) who are afraid of spear points. As such, I have to carry a second knife that doesn't bother them.

About 3 to 5

Today:

Spyderco CF Harpy/SE RFP
SS Cricket/SE watchpocket
SS Cricket/PE car key ring(always)
SAK Left back pocket(always)
Leatherman Squirt key chain(always, not very much of a blade though)

Typically I carry 3, fixed blade under eight inchs, spydy with a serrated blade around 3-3.5 inchs and a SAK. I carry the SAK to hand to someome else, for the tools or to use in an environment that I feel requires knife discretion. The serrated spydy handles most small jobs and is easy to access plus the SE spydy's just cut really damn well on almost everything. The fixed blade is usually the knife I will reach for if I don't have to be overly concerned with scaring folks, its very sharp, very quick to draw, use and resheath and it will do better in an sd role then either of my folders. Basically I carry multiple knivews to handle different jobs and to offer me some choices when discretion is required. Oh yeah and I also like knives a lot too.

At work, I carry two knives and a Leatherman. Off duty, I usually carry one plus a SAK, as it is in my winter jacket. While I sometimes want to carry more, I don't really have a need to.

OK I thought it silly like some people do about carrying more than one knife..
But after my recent trade acquired Mini Afck and My favorite Emerson mini CQC7 waved I have began to tell myself it is ok.. Two is one, one is none.. I can't seem to be apart from either of them..
:D Help me.. This is a desperate cry for help..
