How many look to a pocket?

I will look, but rarely see anything nice, even here in Texas...ive seen a few spyderco clips and a CRKT or two, the rest are just junk mostly...im hoping that one day i can find someone carrying a Hinderer and strike up a conversation about that:D:D

I see a few here and there.

If it's a junky knife I'm not going to say anything, chances are its someone who doesn't really care about knifes. Really I wouldn't say anything anyway.

But, I was at a clothing store, and the cute girl who worked there had a crkt clipped on...mind you, this is rare in Chicago. I asked her, and we started talking. I showed her my Reg Seb. She told me her dad is a collector, and she loves knives.

I really wanted to ask her out.

She was cute, she likes knives. How much more do you need? Most of us are lucky if we find girls that are cute...the rest is a bonus!

If you pass up this opportunity the universe might not give you any more.

On topic comment: When I see clips (other than at gunshows) they are almost always gas station or flea market specials. Most of the clips I see I don't recognize because they are no-name junk.

I see quite a few up here but usually dont recognize anything decent.

Its pretty clear only a very small percentage of the population carries good blades on them.

Heck, even my son wears beater China crap mostly instead of his Benchmades and Kershaws and Spydercos.

clips tend to catch my eye for some reason, but I don't usually approach when I see one, considering some might find it rude. I do however, occasionally comment on friends' ones and start have a brief conversation on the topic.

on the other hand, rarely others comment on my clip. I do have once a restaurant owner pointed out mine as I was being stupid & putted all my coins in the same pocket as my knife:p he told me I shouldn't be carrying it, I did not even bother trying to justify it afterwards

I sometimes notice, if it is a very particular knife. Pocket knives are ten a penny here though. Anybody over the age of 8 is likely carrying one. If I struck up a conversation about every one, I would never get where I was going.

I live in Canada so the last thing you want anyone to know, is that you have a knife.
They'll probably call the cops. And since just about any kind of knife is illegal here you could be arrested. They may even be able to get a search and seizure warrent for my house and confiscate my entire collection. A switch or assisted open is rated the same as having a silencer on a firearm...worth about 10 years each...So needless to say you don't see too many knives.

Man I hate this country.

I notice pocket clips around here, but are mostly el cheapo gas station "knives."

I also see a fair number of Buck 110 and multitool pouches on belts around here, but it is a fairly rural farming area (Yup - Connecticut actually has some of those!). Gerbers seem to be the most popular.

I occasionally notice a clip in passing. It's not a location I tend to check out on guys.

Yep, this can be a bit awkward if someone notices a stranger intently looking at something 'down there'.

I remember watching an episode of 'Seinfeld', where George got caught ogling the cleavage of the daughter of a man they were visiting. Jerry scolded him, and warned him, 'It's like looking at the sun. You don't stare at it. You just get a sense of it, and then look away.'

Seems appropriate here, too. :p

I took my sons to a play date yesterday and the 9 year old who we were visiting made mention of my clip, and remarked that I ALWAYS have that knife in my pocket.

I thought, "what an observant young man!"

Kids, especially, I think are more likely to notice these things. It's basically at eye level for them, so it's a lot more 'obvious'.

I was standing in a checkout lane at Walmart once. Had my Spyderco Manix2 clipped inside my front pocket. A man and his young son were in the line behind me, and the boy kept intently staring at the clip. I didn't notice if the dad saw it or not, and I didn't say anything about it. Felt a little strange, though. Did make me think a bit more about how 'discreet' these clips sometimes are/aren't.

"The Quiet Corner" - except when Rip Torn is around.:D

I notice people noticing my pocket clip when I wear it, such as the time when I was talking to a rep from the Red Cross. It makes me wonder if it'll be interpreted negatively, maybe even reported or tagged, etc. So in effect it makes me use the clip less and just put my spydercos in the pocket whole to attract less attention.

I seldom notice a clip. Most of the people I know don't carry knives or guns on a regular basis and are always asking to borrow my knife because they know I have one on me.

This thread made me look at "clips" and most of the ones I have have not easily recognizable company or brand logo. I guess you really have to know your "clips", but I have better things to do most of the time.

I look but, living in SoCal, almost never see anything.

True, it is rare. However being where I am, living in Oceanside and going to school in San Marcos. I have found my self catching glimpses of clips with some frequency. Oceanside is next to Camp Pendleton. So I see a lot of marines caring knives.Although usually they are chinese made knock offs. San Marcos is the Home of Strider knives. Which is literally down the street from my school. So surprisingly I've caught glimpses of several SMF and SNGs since I've been attending school. I think I see more knives on campus than anywhere else.

I always glance towards the pocket when I see something in the area. Typically I am just curious to see if the person is carrying a knife or not. I go to college at a relatively small private university in Ohio. It is a unqiue mixture of liberal music majors, bespectacled professors, and ROTC students. Half of the time, what's clipped to the pocket is nothing more than a Bic. The ROTC kids usually don't carry anything special, the nicest thing you see is a CRKT M16 or a Spyderco Native from time to time.

There are quite a few kids from rural Ohio that I have noticed carrying the folding Stanley knives with the replaceable utility blades.

Being a firearms afficianado, I also look towards the hip, underneath the armpit, the front pockets, the jacket pockets, and the ankle to see if anyone is carrying.

You don't always see a lot, but it's always interesting when you do.

Have a safe and happy 2011.

Take care.

KATN,

Wade

If a good looking girl has a knife clipped to the back pocket of a tight pair of jeans, I suspect I wouldn't be able to take my eyes off of the "clip". :) I can dream.

Ok, now let me ask you this. If you see a teenager with a crappy branded knife that looks like he's a trouble maker or would be up to no good, what's your first thought? Do you stereotype or do you think ok, maybe he just looks that way, but uses the knife for what it's intended for?

I'd assume they just use it normally.

But if its 2am and I'm walking down a poorly lit road in the North End I'd probably walk to the other side of the street.:D

I probably wouldn't think anything of it until he pulled it out. At that point, he could have a nice little "discussion" with my .45.

I do try to check out the people around me who are carrying any kind of hardware. I seldom start any conversations about their hardware unless I know them.

Man I hate this country.

Every day I carry a knife, and not a SAK or something thats really sheeple friendly either. I carry a Delica 4 (or similar sized spydero) normally. If im back from any kind of outdoors activity I have a fixed blade on my belt and a large folder (military or similar) in my pocket. This includes stopping at the store for a snack or drink. I have never had someone freak out over my knife use/ carry and I live in liberal southern ontario.

Unless you live in some other Canada assisted opening is legal for carry. In fact you can carry/ own ANY knife other than a switch blade or gravity knife, so long as it's not intended for use as a weapon.

I use my knives responsibly and never try (or have had the need) to hide them from anyone.

BTW, carrying a pocket knife is not grounds for a search warrant; nor is carrying a pen, spoon, flash light, book, weasel, shoes, keys, bag, lightbulbs or 8 track tapes. If you think your knives can be confiscated from your home, you must think that they're illegal. If that's the case why would you post about your illegal knife collection on the internet?

So please, get your facts right. This country isn't perfect but on the whole it's a pretty nice place to live. If you dont like it no one's making you stay...

BTW, I see knives on a somewhat regular basis.
