How many look to a pocket?

I can honestly say I've never noticed whether anyone I've met/seen has a knife clipped in their pocket. I really couldn't care less since it's none of my business. The thought of approaching a complete stranger and asking about a knife in their pocket is absolutely foreign to me, as well. Different strokes and all that, I suppose...

Then again, I was taught at an early age to assume everyone around you is armed and to conduct yourself accordingly.

I moreso meant in a social environment, or say someone is at the knife counter and seems interested in them as well. I'd feel uncomfortable walking up to a complete stranger and striking up a conversation. I'd feel like a nut.

I live in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Big part of my friends are shooters or hunters, and they all carry at least one cliped folder.
Outside this circle, I NEVER saw a someone with a clip...
I think it's because it's not part of our culture, and most of the people here think of knives as weapons, not tools.
Of course you're not go into a bank carrying a 10" bowie, but here in Brazil we don't have any laws about knives, so, you can carry pretty much whatever you want...

Andre Tiba - Brazil

im the kinda guy that likes to have control/ awareness of my surroundings so usually ( 9 times outta 10) i notice if someone is carrying especially if they are within 5 to 10 feet of me or if there is a problem where i might have to take action im also quite good at noticing handguns and other items like that.

I saw a Kershaw Tyrade clip a while ago on someone at church. They were new, and I was too embarassed to mention the knife, as I had a brain fart and couldn't remember the knife's name. I have one of my own, too. I guess I'm just a little too shy.

I notice knife clips all the time, but as many have said, they are usually cheap no-name brands, and it would most likely be a waste of time to mention it.

I have, in the past, seen a quality piece, and started a conversation. Not too often though. I will try to be better about it in the future.

I was babysitting my neighbors little boy today, and as i was putting a DVD into the DVD player he started to grab at my knife clip. I remember reading a post in this thread about someone who had seen a little boy eyeing his knife clip at the store, and it reminded me of that. I guess when you're at eye level with a knife clip, you notice it more than when you're face level with somebody.

Greg,

It sounds like there's something wrong with your child's friends parents, and you son would probably be better off without their influence. What other people think is 'right' should be no concern of a law abiding citizen, but I know your son may not feel that way about his friends.

It's to bad we have to, but as with all our rights we have to use them and not be afraid of doing so. Unfortunately cops on the street can't know every law and often things tend to get made up on the spot (as a firearms owner this is a large problem). Know your laws, stay within them and enjoy your hobby.

Assisted opening isn't against the law at all, we have a Canadian sub forum here that explains it alot better than I can- head over there and have a read.

Keeping you knives locked up is a good idea with stupid teenagers around (friends, not your son :o ). Because yes, if someone blabbed and/ or made something up you're in for a hard time; but I'd also worry about the sticky fingers of other teens.

I guess it depends on where you live, im in liberal ville but still in the country and work in a machine shop so people are pretty laid back around here.

Don't let a few crappy laws and a few bad apples ruin your hobby

Just watched that movie.

How can you spot a CCW under a jacket? Ever spotted a boot knife or knife carried like a Kershaw Military Boot knife?

I always look for pocket clips. But, I very rarely see them in Baltimore. If I do, I'm usually happy to start a conversation.

Oh and one more thing I wanted to mention.
In this same town, a classmate of my Nephew was suspended because his mother packed a damn butter knife in his lunch.
While I realise this is a "School" thing it does show the mental attitude toward "weapons" that is developing in this society.
And that's what I cant stand about this country.

My friend had a similar thing happen to him. he had a leatherman charge which he used in his art exam the week before and forgot to take out of his bag. he was showing me it in class and the teacher must have mis seen it as she reacted as though it was a 20in machete! i do live in england so the laws are stricter but still, he is in no way a violent guy who is going to go out and stab people randomly. we did get a good laugh out of her reaction though and we now refere to it as his dual 20in machete multitool.

sometimes people ask why i have a pen knife in an almost shocked tone. so i reply in a rather smart arsed tone "for general utility" just to piss them off a little ;)

I call it situational awareness, some call it paranoia. Everywhere I go I notice not only the clip but which pocket it's carried in as well as the individual who is carrying. Any odd behavior, various exits etc. etc.....

I notice pocket clips, but most of the time they're some no-name brand that I don't care to talk about.

In the city, I don't see many if any at all. Anywhere else, i'll notice a few every so often. I don't usually say anything but I have been asked about my knife at parties or family events.

All of the homophobic posts in here are cracking me up :D

Never look below the waist of another man, you might catch the gay!

When I was a head lifeguard, one of my guards (female) came to their shift with a pink Kershaw Chive clipped to her suit. I was totally surprised by this and when I asked her about it she told me it was a gift from her dad and up until that day she just threw it down in her purse and forgot about it. She said she figured she would need one because she noticed my knife that was clipped to the inside of my waistband (Spyderco Salt 1; now at the bottom of the Atlantic somewhere :( ).

So there's 2 people looking to pockets/ waistbands.

Ps: I know what you guys are thinking, "why didn't you ask her out?" Answer- I was 18, she was 15. Didn't even wanna risk it. :D

I always always always look for printing, holsters, clips, and the classic "going to hold my thigh as I walk down the street, but no, I'm not carrying anything". I love Ohio. While I live in Columbus, tons of people carry knives and CCW. Some even have the balls to open carry their pistols. I usually bring it up in a non-chalant kind of way, lest I draw attention to their carrying of a firearm.

I usually keep my knife semi-visible simply because it is legal to carry and I'd love for someone to ask about it. The more people I can educate on knives, guns, and the law, the better.
