How many multiples do you own of the same knife?

5 of the Delica and Endura. 2 version of the Endela.

I believe my Mora companion/HD companion total is 6.

Updated twice already, and I may have still missed some...

Zero that I can think of now. I used to buy a backup of anything I used heavily but I came to realize I’d never need the backup and sold or traded em all off. You really only need one. I know that’s unpopular opinion here but it’s true.

I only have one duplicate: the Grohmann No.1 (for use) and the Grohmann No.1 60th Anniversary Model (as a decorative commemorative piece to celebrate Canadian knife making). There are just too many different knives from too many different knife companies, created by so many different designers for more than that one duplicate to happen anytime soon.

If I did a deep dive on purchasing Spyderco knives it's probably something that would just happen organically over time, but I've tried to show some restraint even though some of my favourite knives are Spyderco. I currently own only 7 of them with another 3 on The List.

Sometimes I just want one representation of a type of steel or what I feel is a good representative of that brand. I'm considering picking up a Buck 110 Slim for my room/shed folding knife rotation and I already own a brass bolstered Buck 110. If that happens that's sort of, kind of a duplicate I suppose.

I need backups. Several years ago, I dropped the knife I used almost every day for cutting baling twine. About a year later, I found it out in a sheep pasture. Later, my favorite EDC knife disappeared. I probably dropped it somewhere out in a pasture, too, but I never found it. I wished I had a backup, but trying to find a replacement was what really got me interested in knives. So I try to get backups of knives I really like.

Now I prefer knives with orange handles, which makes them easier to find. A few weeks ago, I dropped my orange Spyderco Endura at the feed store. It probably snagged on a bale of hay while I was loading up. But the guys at the store know I usually carry a knife with an orange handle (several of which I bought there), and when they found it, they gave it back to me, which was way cool.

It seems there are many people here with compulsions, looks like I'm in the right place! I see another iMamba coming my way in the near future.

Yes you are! Now, when you're ready to go from merely knife collecting to Competitive Deathmatch Knife Collecting, look up Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC), and Carothers Performance Knives.

Of the same exact knife...

-- 2 Spyderco Poliwogs with SS scales and VG10
-- 2 Knifejoy Delicas with blue scales and 20CV Wharncliffe
-- 2 Spyderco Lavas with SS scales and VG10
-- Too many Moras to count

🙂

The Spyderco Millie is my only knife with significant multiples.

Standard S30v
Digicam
Rex45
S90V CF/Ti
DLC M4 CF/Ti franken millie
3 x Lefty (since I am lefty)

I had one lefty, lost it and got really pissed. I bought two (a replacement and a backup) and of course found the lost knife under my couch. Apparently it got stuck in the cushions and fell to a point that I couldnt see or reach. When I moved the couch to vacuum it fell out!

Ive sold three Ti millies (they were awesome but too heavy). And Two 204p (which I regret)

If I could have them bring back any knife it would be the fluted Ti.

Ive I could get them to make a new sprint it would be either Cru wear or preferably 3V with carbon fiber handles.

I do have several Victorinox Classics, and several of their Alox models, with different scales, amongst others. :)
I also have some variants of the same model in some GECs, Case xx, RR, CRKT and so on...
