How many of you EDC an expensive ($300-$400 and up) Knife

Medford%201_zpsdc3o1mm9.jpg

I EDC my Medford all day everyday.

Once you buy a $300 + knife to get yourself broken in, you will never turn back. You will then see what the difference is. After your eyes have opened, you will never want to carry anything else. So of course the $300 + knife becomes your EDC. After you beat it good an hard, you then find yourself buying another one..

And they grow like a fungus.. Then you find yourself getting a rotation going. Then you find yourself lurking on BladeForums more than you used to.. It's an awesome.. viscous.. cycle.

This is just silly. I've carried $400 knives and gone right back quite happily. Heck, the more expensive knife probably had better build quality, but other than that did nothing better and a number of things worse than my knives that cost half that or less.

Absolutely nothing wrong with y'all carrying $300+ blades, and more power to you if you do, but don't try to argue that it's what everyone wants.

Yep, been carrying a Delica for over the past month. If it was my only folder I'd be OK with it.

Personally, there are just very, very few $400 knives that particularly interest me right now. The price doesn't keep me away, the feature set does.

Guilty as charged...

This is in my pocket right now:

cool, full color x-ray image of the inside of your plaid pocket!

The one time I took out a SanRenMu to cut a zip tie, my co-worker (female) got noticeably anxious and asked, "you carry that around all the time?" FML in CA

My most expensive folders are CRK, and they get carried and used (admittedly pretty lightly). Carried more than used though. If I am going to work outside, or somewhere I might meet some abrasive media, I will probably pick up my ZT 550 or something in that range. Most in the $200+ that I own are normally taken care of.

But they do get used! So that counts for something right?

edit for pic!

Easy brotha.. I wasn't "trying to argue" with anyone.

Just putting my opinion out there. If you don't like my opinion that is fine.

I I'm with most of you always carry what I buy but can I ask has anyone had a knife they couldn't carry? Just too protective of it? Felt the finishes were too fine? I'm not talking about a knife you don't like just one you don't feel comfortable carrying.

No offense intended at all when I say this, I do not mind your opinion at all, I do mind a bit when you assume it's my opinion as well. ;)

I like my Sebenzas, but they're not the end all, be all to me. Having some time with the knives in the $300+ range for well over a year now, I seem to be trending back towards my old opinion of "I can get what I really like in a knife for less than $150 and be very content". As always, given time my opinion is subject to change.

If I buy it, I'm definitely going to carry and use it; for me, it wouldn't make sense any other way.

In the spirit of "Never say never", after making my comments about never buying a $300-400 knife in December I went right out in January and bought a small Sebenza.

Nice knife, excellent materials, perfect workmanship and a superb reputation with knife enthusiasts. And it costs too damn much. I had to force myself to start carrying it for fear of losing it. But once the "new" was worn off and it gained a few scratches from occasional carry and use, I now sometimes carry it instead of my favorite Spydercos.

Would I buy it again? I doubt it. While it's a superb knife, Spydercos are more ergonomic for me and perform just as well or better for the things I do with a knife. And, while I may not buy the Sebenza again, I don't think I'll get rid of it either.

Love my Sebenza and have carried it since the day i got it which is almost 2.5 years now, but i will not use it as a pry bar or anything crazy like that, i use it as a tool like it should be used

There are various dimensions to this topic.

There's a big difference between "carrying" and "using". And then there's a big difference between "using" and "using in a manner that could cause some form of damage".

I've seen people "carry" folders in there pockets, and the folders were carried inside some form of pouch. They were well protected and never used for anything.

And then some people will use a knife to cut some things, but they won't use them if there's a chance the edge will get damaged or the knife scratched or anything that will cause the knife to get dirty.

But it's all good. However a person chooses to carry or use their knife is their choice to make with no judgement or criticism from me. Some of my knives (like the ones I pictured earlier) I don't care if they get "dinged" from use. But I have other knives (treasures) that I'm thinking of carrying, but I would only use them for tasks that won't cause damage.

Took these two today. I love em both.

They wouldn't give me nearly as much enjoyment sitting at home on the shelf.

Both stellar performers.

All day every day... IMO Life is too short to carry a "good enough" knife. I feel the same way about sunglasses. Sometimes a buddy will say "Man I always lose knives/sunglasses... Or I always break them..." Personally I was not brought up to take my personal gear for granted whether I'm just getting by or big pimping.

Gawd awful beautiful knives in this thread!

Loss, not use or wear is the number one threat to an EDC folder.
