How many of you EDC an expensive ($300-$400 and up) Knife

I've had my small Sebenza Insingo in my pocket every single day for the last 2 years. The way I think of it, I spent too much money on it to not use it.

I agree with that line of thinking. My small Sebenza cost too much to just sit in a drawer somewhere. Also the fact that it is really nice knife makes it hard not to want to carry it.

I EDC two CRKs at the moment...

Large CF Sebenza Insingo
Umnumzaan

Got both lightly used, so that helped ease the anxiety of carrying them :) Have traded away all of my regular production knives except a few of my fixed blades and one or two production folders that were gifts.

It's not depreciation I'm worried about. Don't mind "character" at any price point. But there is a price point that the worry of a sudden instant, and total depreciation(loss):p just doesn't make it fun for me.

Most expensive knife I own cost me less that $100. I won't own a knife I am afraid to lose.

I don't buy anything I'm not going to carry.

I regularly EDC a large Seb 21 and a William Henry E10. I'm just as likely to put them in my pocket as I am a $40 Case slip joint. Just depends on what mood I'm in that day.

nobody ever finds it silly to carry a $400 smart phone. so why not a knife?

An expensive smartphone might be able to let you tell someone that your in trouble, if there's a signal. Whereas even an inexpensive EDC blade can save your life.

None of my EDC's (though that will be changing in about a week), but a couple of my Every Day Users are higher dollar customs. I have a Phil Wilson fillet and utility knife that get daily use at the fish cleaning table. Life is short so I'm going to use the good china! ;)

Once you buy a $300 + knife to get yourself broken in, you will never turn back. You will then see what the difference is. After your eyes have opened, you will never want to carry anything else. So of course the $300 + knife becomes your EDC. After you beat it good an hard, you then find yourself buying another one..

And they grow like a fungus.. Then you find yourself getting a rotation going. Then you find yourself lurking on BladeForums more than you used to.. It's an awesome.. viscous.. cycle.

My priciest EDC is an Umnumzaan. And although I like it , I enjoy my $100-$200 Spyderco's (and a couple Benchmades) just as much if not more. I've been realizing that the Umnumzaan gets less and less pocket time these days. It's still a great blade. But I'm favoring others (that are less expensive) lately.

There are still a handful of $400+ knives I'm interested in (Nirvana !). But most of the ones I like are between $100-$300.

I have multiple knives that cost me over $500 and I carry them all regularly. Why wouldn't I?

This is going to come out wrong, but I'll forge ahead anyway: I'm at a place in life where I won't ever have to sell any of my knives to pay bills. So, I don't have to worry about carry marks/scratches lessening the value of those knives.

Hell, who else are expensive knives for? We, afflicted with the Sickness of STEEL, are a minor few. The vast majority of folks out there don't care that we're carrying expensive knives, and they tend not to be impressed when you pull a knife out and state what it costs. So, if you've spent the money, might as well do what you want! Admire 'em, put 'em in a safe, or hey, carry and use 'em!

These are my two daily carry knives, and my two work knives (construction). Each cost me $300 and they are my most expensive knives. The Fixed-blade is a Wilson Tactical model 25, and the folder is a Bradley Alias. I bought both knives with the intent of carrying them and using them as work knives. Before buying these two knives I carried an Entrek Cobra (fixed-blade), and a Benchmade AFCK (folder) for the same purposes.

My decision to buy these two knives was based on what I needed, what I wanted, what I liked, and what I could afford to spend on knives.

On the other end of the price scale, my 30+ year old Buck 110 still gets a lot of use around the house.

This isn't always the case, but I concede it's much easier to continue buying higher-priced knives once you've broken through the barrier. That being said, my current EDC is a Mini Grip after about a decade of carrying CRKs, Hinderers, Striders and customs because it actually offers more of the features I'm looking for these days.

Go figure lol.

$300-$400 is the starting point for the knives I buy. For a custom tactical folder, I'll usually spend $700-$2200.

And they either get carried/used or they get sold.

I carried a Serge Panchenko Bean today. A wonderful little EDC knife--there's nothing else quite like it.

When I was in the Army I carried my Benchmade 580, or my SOG Trident most days. When I carried a fixed blade (every day when deployed) I carried a SOG Seal Pup Elite.

Now that I am out in the professional business world, I primarily carry a William Henry that I got for just that purpose. I don't have much need for a big tactical knife so this one fits the bill pretty well and looks very sharp.

I still carry my Benchmade when I'm not in a suit. Unfortunately I can't carry any of my Balisongs here.

I am looking for another good EDC to change out with my WH. Considering a Sebenza since they seem to get a lot of good reviews here. But I also really like the new Lionsteel TRE. We'll see what happens.
