How many of you use your folders for cutting meat when eating out?

Hehe there are some good posts here guys.

I guess it comes down to,
Do you feel comfortable with your self and the things you put on your body everday?

If not, dont wear it, equip it or carry it, then you can be free to do without thought or thinking like everyone else.

Or if you do carry, do so with conviction and be proud that you are prepared for the moment.I am not using it as a weapon, but an impliment and so should you if you want to stay trouble free.

If you feel guilty, you probably are lol, if you dont why the fuss?

Just say No, to Knee jerk guilt or association.

Clean your knife first, then cut the meat, then clean the knife again.

Come to think of it, most of you (ladies excepted) probably wash your hands only AFTER using the urinal. I wash beforehand. I know where my tallywhacker's been all day, but my hands(?).

I've never understood people who urinate then wash. Your penis at most will have some mild sweat and dried semen on it if you got excited that day....now think of all the things your hands touch and interact with. People try to tell me I'm gross for not washing after I pee, I wonder why I should wash my hands after they touch something obviously cleaner than them.

Don't you have to flush? And how about for the simple reason that its an convient oppurtunity to clean your hands?

  1. I believe my hands are cleaner after I wash them.
  2. I don't have a set schedule that I wash my hands.
  3. So I wash them whenever I use the bathroom (as well as other situations dictate)
Does any of this not make sense?

I wash my hands off when they have shit on em, like grape jelly, mud, grease from food or mechanical things etc. Or whenever I'm going to play my bass guitar.

I don't flush in public restrooms (Exception being on the rare occaison I take a shit in one, I'm not leavign that stuff there for others). Theres very little I ever do touch in public restrooms. When using the bathroom at home I flush but I don't think touching the handle on my toilet is justification to wash my hands, I touch plenty of dirtier things on a daily basis, like my skateboard.

The routine thing you mention is very logical. I'm just not big on washing my hands, I just do it in the shower. But hey, if your methods work for you, go for it. I'm just stating my methods and that I get sick far less than most people, and I have a hunch my hygeine routines might contribute to that. I think it's more dependant on my diet and level of activity though, along with genetics.

Most people would probably be shocked at some of my hygeine choices I haven't mentioned, but I'm still walking and talking, heheh.

I don't see anything wrong with using your own knife to cut steak, but I've never felt the need to use my own blade. We celebrate birthdays in our office and it would be kind of cool to whip out my 6-inch Cold Steel Voyager to cut the cake, but bein' the rest of my office is all women and they all think a 6-inch kitchen knife is natural while a folding 6-inch knife is for killing, murdering, maiming, and slitting.

Me, I see a 6-inch folder as being the perfect way to get a really good slice of cake. Sure beats the serrated plastic knives they sell at the Dollar Store.

I think WadeF and JoeDirt are two people that I would not enjoy knowing.

I'm with you, nolan. I understand that's their perspective on carrying a knife in public. But they are seriously full of something when they think others who use their EDC in public are LOW CLASS!

had to use all the knives on me and in my truck at a picnic/bbq once, and I used a Vic Spartan to cut some beef at a restaurant. I usually avoid doing it cause I hate having to clean foodstuffs off my blade, I get all ocd and completely disassemble the knife most of the time. Especially after cleaning a friend's CRKT folder months after we used it on a fried Thanksgiving turkey and seeing/smelling the oil/bird upon removing the handle scales. yummy.

Maybe "low class" wasn't the best term to use. However, whenever I've seen lessons on proper table manners, such as "Start with the fork on the outside and work your way in" etc, I never recall them saying "Ignore the knife provided to you and use the one in your pocket." :D

Maybe it's a regional thing as well. Some parts of the country it maybe more accepted for someone to pull out a pocket knife and cut their meat. The only time I've seen it around here was a friend of my Father who was a knife collector. He pulled out his knife to cut a sandwhich, but he was at our place at the time, so I don't know if he does this in a public resturant.

I generally try not to pull out my knife in public anyway. I'm not going to walk around Wal*mart and whip out a knife to cut something. I don't want to make people feel uncomfortable, and unfortunately that's the world we live in, at least in my neck of the woods. If I used my pocket knife in a resturant I'd be afraid of someone freaking out and calling the police. I know my in-laws would look down on it and my wife would probably give me an ear full.

If someone else wants to do it, more power to them. I guess I said it was low class because if I did it around my family, they would consider it low class or bad manners.

Let's see I've used a CRKT Stiff Kiss an Arclite and lately my Benchmade Instigator to cut food with when the knife they give me isnt up to the task of cutting butter. The last place I went into gave me some pos stamped steel bent tipped sheet metal steak knife to cut up my huge chicken fried steak and after fighting with cutting and not tearing my meat I said screw it pulled the sheath over my shirt pulled the knife tucked the sheath back and enjoyed my meal making clean cuts without any effort then I wiped it off and put it back in sheath nobody said nothing. Cleaned it and the sheath when I got home.

Wade, I hope we never catch you using a clear soup spoon to consume creamed soup or a salad fork to eat your dessert. :D

Wow...we got some guys worried about dulling their $400 knives...we got guys who obviously want to use their blades and will use any excuse...but worsely we got guys who flush their toilets and don't wash...mmmm please don't make me a sandwich...I think the flusher knob could be pretty nasty.
Wash before and after peeing in a restroom and kick the door open. Don't use your knife in a fine restaraunt, and don't eat steaks you need a machete to cut!!!

Maybe it's just me, but I use my opinel almost every day at work to make a snack or to cut veggies, I use my case slippy for picnics or to trim a snack when I'm out with friends. If I were out with a few friends and we had steaks on the barbeque, then sure, but if I order a steak at a decent restaurant, they'll give me cutlery that's sufficient, and that won't be obtrusive.

Like has been mentioned in the thread before, there is a time and a place to use your knife, and at the table in a good restaurant isn't one. If you had to trim a thread on your shirt in public, and you could choose from the scissors on a small SAK or use a Becker Crewman, which would you use?

Really it sounds like you aren't against the idea of using a pocket-knife at a restaraunt, you're just wary of how others are perceiving your actions to the point that you won't do it. I personally don't see anything lacking when it comes to manners if someone behaves this way.

Well, just yesterday evening my hands touched the road near my house, car doors, the floor of a littered skatepark, the ground of a dirty cement skatepark, got soaked in sweat from my body, held my skateboard by the wheels which aren't very clean themselves, my shoes, doorknobs, cats etc. Most of the things I'velisted probably have a lot more germs than a toilet handle. Additionally, the toilet I use isn't used by anyone but myself, and again in public I don't flush.

I hate to say it outright, but Sir, you are a sheeple, please sell your knives at your earliest convienence or turn them over to responcible adults.

If you are concerned you may flip out in front of others using your knives, then you do not deserve them.

If you are concerned others may flip out, again what are YOU doin with them?

Sorry Wade, but you spilled it bro, this message is clear in its intentions.
"I would not whip out my knife in public anyway."

I draw mine, i make no fancy moves to impress the old lady next to me, and i cut the media in a responcible manner that scares no one, close my knife and put it away.

This is how to use a knife, not flailing it about, walking through a store with it in hand, it is easy to see why some think most users are whackos, especially if they are doing these things in public.

And you said, you wouldnt use it in a resturant, you simply wont use it.

Use your rights, Or give them up.

No offence meant, however i will not be told by a sheeple what is correct usage.

You directly insult the guy and them say "no offence [sic] meant" You want to insult me too, because I've never found the need to use my own knife in a restaurant? We are here because we have an interest in knives. People can have different views about what they like in a knife and how they use them. Unfortunately, here if you don't brag about using your knife at every opportunity, you not only are a "sheep" but also should have your knives taken away.???

I don't as I wouldn't want to draw my knife across a plate and my knife might not be clean from the day's chores. Not to say it would be filthy, but who knows. Also, I tend to order pizza anyways:) .

No insult meant, if your too scared to use your knife when you need it, you dont deserve it is said without intended insult or malice, just plain honesty.

Hey, and if that hurts your feelings, dont read the thread.

Btw, Wade's a big boy, married an all, if he takes that to heart as offensive, he can stand his ground an point it out, or do you need to do that for him?

:D

If one allows the fears of others to in turn cause him fear, thus letting the over-restrictive, irrational nature of others make him behave the same way, then is he any better than those he disagrees with?

Haha, I'd like to defend myself, but I'm not really clear on how to defend myself because it was really hard to figure out what you were trying to say. You might want to re-post your thoughts so we can understand them.

I have no problem pulling out and using my knife if I need to. However, if I'm in a public place, surrounded by people I don't know, I may choose not to pull my knife out if I don't absolutely have to. Such as in a resturant. If there is a steak knife there, I'm going to use that before I use my knife. I've never had a problem with the utensils provided to me in a resturant.

My knives see plenty of use around the house, and in the back yard. I don't think I need to give them up because I don't want to run around in public with a knife and using it for any little reason I can think of.
