How many own an Opinel?

My 2 new ones just came in the mail today, a #7 & #10, both in carbon steel. They definitely have a certain charm to them. Unfortunately there was a little chip in the wooden handle of the 10. No biggie though.

Sharp little buggers though.

I had 2, but my home was burglarized on 11-22, and they were taken. One was "custom". A No 6 with an Olive handle, and carbon blade. You can't buy them like that. I wanted carbon/olive, so I bought a plain #6 carbon, and the olive (stainless), and swapped the blades. I liked them alot. This thread is giving me the urge to replace them.

several no. 9 s in carbon a 7 in stainless , a vintage 12 in carbon , new 12 in Stainless - SS bubinga filet 12

Who DOESNT have a Opinel ??

The CS Twistmasters are really good too , Have a large Clip blade and just for the heck picked up the large Tanto version . I think the twistmasters were in Carbon V as well.

No. 8 carbon here, I love it. I field dressed two whitetails w/ it this year. It will skin some squirrels late season if we get a good hunting snow. I am going to add some more sizes and I want to try stainless spearpoint and filet models too.

I just received a No. 8 "Mushroom" for Christmas last night! My stepdaughter and her boyfriend gave gave her to me!!:)

In all of my 55 years, probably 54 of them being a knife knut:eek::), I have NEVER owned an Opinel. I would look at them in this one store I frequented, before it went out of business, and that was it. I never asked to handle one, or anything about them. After I joined here at BF, I was amazed to read so much about the Opinel and how well respected it is. Still didn't change my mind, and I never put any on the order forms when I would order knives. One thing has changed that desire though, and that is what avoidspam has done with his. Those look awesome and I love the design, and wood. This something I would like to do, especially now that we are in the winter months. Just got a new Dremel outfit and believe it would do an excellent job on these.

Great work avoidspam!!

Haven't done an Opinel mod in years but just picked up a couple of #6 Opi's a few weeks ago and here is the result.

The one in front is actually smaller than the one in the rear in these bad pics. Look how much more the blade has been shortened in the second picture. It is to be my new watch pocket knife for a while.

Thanks for the kind words cutter17. Yep, i started with one of those Ebauche or 'raw' Opinel's. You have much more wood to play with than a standard Opi. Both of these are Walnut believe it or not, I've made one more in Maple but the grain was nothing like as interesting as the Walnut. Have fun:)

I have a no 10, sharp as a razor. I made a very stupid mistake once....of forgetting to rotate the locking collar and started to strop the blade.
Whaddayknow, I was off and running to my doc to put in 4 stitches on the top of my index finger just forward of the knuckle. I tried using the clotting agent but as soon as you move the finger it would bleed again, doc hates to clean that stuff off.

Like I said, sharp as a razor. I wont repeat that mistake again.

I bought a several Opinels; a Sandvik 12C27 pruner, a filet knife, a number 6 and 2 carbon paring knives. I gave everything away except the pruning knives. I like the pruning knives so I guess I'm going to have to buy some more.

I have 2 #8s in ss, and sharpened them to a razor. Take them to restarants so I don't have to fight with their cheap non-cutting serrated knives.

I should have gotten one for every member of the family as Christmas gifts...
