How old were you when you started carrying a knife?

I'm in my mid 40's and I remember going to the corner "candy store" and buying my first pocket knife when I was about 6 years old. My mother gave me the 50 cents to buy it. It was a small, yellow plastic handled jack knife (probably Colonial). I lost it shortly thereafter but I was hooked for life. My next knives were Gutman lock back, Puma 260, Gerber FSII. I had a platoon Sgt. in the Marines who convinced me to always carry a Boy Scout or Swiss Army knife. Now I have so many knives in my collection my wife laughs at me every morning as I try to decide which one to carry for that day!

When I was 11. Got a cheap-o S&W knife, but I carried it every day. After going through about 10 others (they all broke, and I was stupid enough to get another one after the previous one broke) I finally got a kershaw blur.

About 8 yrs old.....yellow handled toothpick/fish cleaner knife with a fake button on it....1967

and my dad gave me a camillus 26, was my grandpa's, a huge 2 blade slippie 5" closed:D big enough to use as a weapon without even opening it!
24 years later still have it:D its the knife that started all this for me!
cheers

I started when I was about six with a small penknife I found. I was in my late forties before I found out it was a tuxedo or bowtie patten. I still have that little knife, and I carry it once in a while.

I grew up on a working farm, and got my first slipjoint about 5 or 6.

Promptly lost it.....................

I was 6...have always loved a pocket knife or two! The older I get, the more I carry! Like many of you, I spend more time picking out which knives to carry than the clothes I am going to wear!

Used knives, cheap ones before this, but got my first "good" knife that I regurlary carried at age eight. Case Medium Stockman, CV blades, yellow handles.
Still have and carry it.

Six or Seven. Grandpa was a farmer and always had a Case or Schrade folder (we were in Upstate NY, Hudson Valley) in his car or drawer in the office. He noticed they were not where he left 'em so on my 7th, I got a puppy and a new knife on the same day...it had yellow handles and the puppy was black, that's all I remember!

If memory is correct I was about 5 when I first carried a knife, a little folder with two blades, then by 6 or 7 I got into better knives and dad gave me my first fixed blade at 10. I still remember wearing it on my belt the moment I tore the birthday paper off of it. It was just prior to the moon shots.

Well, I was about 7-8 when I got my first knife. It was a Vic classic, and i got it from the company my dad workes for. They had the knifes custom printed with the company logo and name on it. I remember I used the hell out of that thing, even at that age. I was raised in an adult lifestyle, so I was always doing things with knives. I still have the knife too, but only ten years down the road! although the company has been gone for some time now

i started a little later than most you guys,,i first started when i was 10 ,,a cheapo 007 :thumbdn:

About 8 or so. It was a camillus carbon steel sawtooth delrin barlow. I can't remember where I got it from. I had it untill I left for basic training. Had to get rid of it as we couldn't have stuff like that in basic training. I gave it to a bus driver. Joe

I got my first slipjoint from my Grandfather when I was around 8 and purchased my first knife around 10 years old. It was a 4" K-Bar hunter.
