How old were you when you started carrying a knife?

7, a little two blade case which my father promptly cut the tip off of for my own safety. I was very disapointed when he did that, but I lost it a couple of months later anyway.

A pen knife similar to the A G Russell UPK (in appearance, not materials) when I was probably 11 or 12. Lost it at some point. :( Was thrilled when the UPK with the bail was introduced and bought one probably just a couple of days after they became available. :)

Can`t remember exactly, guess around 7-8,my uncle gave it to me,some German slipjoint, but I do remember the day when I lost it,at age of 9.And at age of 12 I bought my first fixed blade 5" clip point Czechoslovakian, with antler handle.

I routinely carried a very small folding knife in the 1st grade. I bought something larger with my allowance a couple of years after I realized it was darn hard to cut anything with such a tiny knife.

My first edc was a Buck 110 at age 12.
I got it for boy scouts!
Still have it!

I was 8yrs old when I was allowed to "carry" a pocket knife. It was an old yellow handled case "Toothpick" that my Grandfather gave to me. (He was an avid whittler.)I felt so grownup since I was trusted enough to carry a real knife. Loved knives ever since.

About 7 if I remember right. It was a small, single bladed slipjoint, a Camillus. I remember carrying it in the first grade, my teacher didn't even care. Although I had it taken away from me in the second grade untill the end of the school year. No big deal though, I just replaced it with another one, and kept it low key.

I was 4, my dad got me a vic classic because I was feeling left out when my older brothers got swisschamps. I lost it in a couple months and then got a buck stockman. I kept and used that for years until my brother lost it.

8 or 9. as soon as i got my totem chip card in cub scouts. colonial carbon steel sak rip off. still have it.

I was 8 or 9. The knife was a Parker lil' mustang with antique bone scales and "carved" bolsters. I still have it, but the lock doesn't lock anymore. :(

I think I was five. Might have been a little earlier.

I keep putting off giving my godson a pocket knife. He's seven. Great kid, but the world's a lot different these days than 30 years ago, and young people don't seem to have much expected of them. I'd like to see him prove some responsibility in other areas before giving him a knife, but do feel a twinge of guilt about not trusting him.

My first knife was a Wegner SAK when I was five or six, didn't use it much though. The first knife I EDC'd was a Cold Steel Voyager when I was 14 (almost ten years ago:eek:), I carried that consistently for a few years, lost it for a while, then found this place and haven't been the same since.

At the age of five, my dad gave me a Victorinox Classic SD with the logo of his asphalt contracting company emblazoned on the side. When I got my hunting license (I was eight or nine), he gave me a Buck 110. My collection has obviously progressed from there and here I am! :D

9 or 10 years old, my brother got me a camping model SAK. Carried it for a couple years and then got into cheap chinese/paki knives. Didn't really carry those, but I did have a gerber that got me through h.s. and college. What led me here to bladeforums was when someone gave me a benchmade 722 when I was 23 or so. After research on this site, I started to collect and started to carry everyday.
