How should Collector Knives sell GEC SFO's

Same experience here, but nothing worth getting upset over. I read and followed the directions and I’m only interested to see if it was operator error on my end so I don’t repeat the same mistake.

Same here. :( email sent.
Congrats to those that got 'em, and thanks, Mike. I know you're working hard, trying to make things fair.

So there was I think it said 115 of the red sawcut covers being produced and over 400 people that got in the drawing, so a 1 in 4 chance on each cover option. I'm sure the entries will be a bit higher next time tho now that the words out that they've started drawing. Literally edge of my seat for the next one. More bummed this morning than I was yesterday about not getting drawn, damn! Damn, damn haha

I agree, with this system at least I have a chance even though I was not selected last night, still have a chance on the others. This should keep the flippers down to a minimum also.

I got a lucky number, and I'm pretty stoked. Soon I'll be able to stare at (and use!) an actual 77 instead of my computer screen!
I'm with you there brother! I've always been too cheap to pony up the dough for one on the secondary market, but I'm super excited to get my hands on my very first 77

Does anyone know if Mike's limiting how many drawings you can enter per pattern? I would like to get the ironwood variant as well as the red saw cut bone, so hopefully they're still fair game.

I mean damn whoa, already after 2 eh? There's some who most likely won't get any, and many that won't get their preferred cover. Not trying to be your daddy, but maybe hold of on hoping out loud for two when a bunch of us haven't gotten out ticket pulled. Salt in the wound for us guys to whom these are not "just knives"

I can understand both positions. Some guys have been looking to get a 77 for a long time and aren't willing or able to put in the money for a secondary market one. Other guys are have been collecting 77s (or just collecting GEC) for years and are frustrated that the lottery eliminates their chance to get all four (or maybe even one!). I don't think there is a way to make everyone happy in this situation, and I sympathize with Mike, who is trying to have a solution that doesn't cost him an arm and a leg, but still provides a chance to all of his customers. The best solution would be for GEC to do larger or more frequent runs of the pattern, but who knows how to make that happen?!?

Double edged sword, if these were made in mass quantities or were consistently available, they would no longer be a hot item and interest would fall off causing them to sit on dealers shelves collecting dust. They are kind of like beautiful women, everyone goes after them in a hurry because there are only so many to go around. ;)

Did the math of the chances to score one or multiple of the #77's. Assumption being that you enter all drawings and that 115 knives are available with 422 participants each. You have a 72% chance to get at least one and conversely a 28% chance to end up with nothing. Only two or three people will end up with all four (0.6% * 422 = 2.3):

Maybe for some. I think that would depend on whether or not the quality remained high. Some patterns are more just desirable than others, despite the quantities of production.

I saw that my post was moved to feedback. I understand if it was deemed not worth posting, but I didn't mean it as feedback. After thinking over it for a while I don't care too much how it's done and think any way will have its ups and downs. I just thought the email that said "bad news" was amusing and was going off of that.

I was particularly interested in getting a red saw cut though because my girlfriend seems to think it's a pretty cover haha

I wasn't in on the formation of the process, so this is just talk. But to me, it would be vastly more fair if those that drew a red sawcut should be eliminated from the next drawing. If there are 500 people in the drawings, and 500 knives, then everyone should get one. The way it is now, someone could get 3 or 4, and many could get shut out.

Agreed.

Agree. At this point though I'd just be happy to know that when I submit my credentials properly that I at least get a chance. It appears that wasn't the case for some last night and THAT is a bummer.

Mike - were the standby slots selected because you may receive a few more knives than expected or just in case some winners decide not to complete the transaction?

When you order 125 knives, you never really know an exact count. But when you send an email essentially promising one, you have to be careful. So, there are 125 of each variation ordered. My expectation is to receive about that number - but you just never know. So the safer bet is to have 115 people happy now and 10 happy later as opposed to having 125 happy now and 3 getting pissed later.

Each drawing stands alone, there are no rules about which you can enter. My intention was never to change the underlying rules of the reservation process. Anyone could always reserve all variations if they were the first one there. My intentions were to provide an allocation system that was fair given that the free-for-all just would no longer work on the existing Early Reserve System. In the old system, if you were there quick you were essentially guaranteed all variations you want - thus even by the critics way of thought this is better in that regard. But I am not going to complicate my life and that of all those interested by a system wherein you are a) drawn for a variation you don't even want, or b) have to enter with not only your email but a first, second, third, and fourth choice of what you want.

OK, in respect to those that have reported they entered correctly, received not notifications otherwise, and were not in the certified draw list... It is my fault.

Sadly, I found the problem, and my developer worked overnight on the fix. You submitted your email perfectly, it had nothing to do with anything you did. One of the audits checks to insure that each email address does not have any restrictions in their current Early Reserve System (ERS) account. But you have not actually used the ERS on the new system (since early last year), so you didn't have an account registry in the ERS. Those that had never used the ERS before were not disqualified - they just got dropped from the list of valid emails. This should not have happened, because it was never a requirement that you be a current user of the ERS.

So I have presented each one that responded to me via email as requested, with a heartfelt apology and an opportunity to try and make amends. I will double their entry in the remaining draw of their choice. That is the best I can do at this point.

Thanks Mike for bringing these 77's even if I don't get drawn.
There must be a lot of hands on works to mull through each one of these drawings to get to the end result. Youv'e got some great patience in this whole experience.
