How Taylor Brands ripped off a french designer under the name Smith & Wesson

Trent Rock,

I know personally Jean Pierre Béal. He didn't get any money from S&W nor from any brand for his design and system.

He is not in business nor in any kind of relationship with Asia.

To say it clearly, he is clean. Taylor brands stole his knife, that's it.
Ok
Thanks for info
So, is he gonna get a patent in Asia? ;)
How much more in total fees/costs is it for a patent in America as opposed to France?
I don't know much about the patent process in other countries :o

Of course I am serious
You think I'm gonna boycott a company because somebody in a forum makes a claim?
I need to see (hear) proof before I do that.
Otherwise there would be hardly any companies I could buy from based on the amount of knife copying allegations I hear.

How does the avg knife consumer FIND OUT if the design was stolen?
If I see a knife with a hole in the blade, I'm not supposed to buy it because they copied Spyderco?
How would I know if it was licensed by Spyderco?
Is there a "Spyderco Seal Of Approval" I should look for on the box or knife?
For example............

Once a patent has been set on a defined territory, you cannot extend it later (I mean for a product).

Jean Pierre works alone, he is not a brand. He is just a man who once created a knife, thought he could make it a living and saw it taken by a big company.

I would be very interested to read Mr Taylor's point of view.

Show me the info, and not some speculation on other forums.....

ok, I can understand that you ask why I quoted a member from another forum.
Here is the answer : the reason is that I thought the text I quoted is perfect and that I wouldn't make it better. But I didn't want to pretend I did write it, because I thought it would not be fair towards Midnight, who actually wrote it. That's all.

For the rest, I don't really understand what you're getting at. The comparison with Spyderco can be misunderstood. In fact, many knifemaker who are making a round spyderhole in their blades do actually have asked for permission by Spyderco. But this is not a reason for them to make a copy of, let's say, the Military. If you take a look at the picture in the first page, you should see what is meant by "copy". "Copy" is just doing the same. There is nothing mysterious about it.

guys the simple truth of the matter is this:

he did not invent the lock used on this knife, been around on shotguns since the 1800's

he did not invent the shotgun shaped knife or pistol shaped knives, again been around forever

from what i am reading he did come up with the idea to put the shotgun type lock on a shotgun shaped knife, pretty clever and suprised this had never been done

he did not protect his property for whatever reasons, it could have been financial or it could have been a business decision as he is a custom maker in France (where he is protected) and as custom maker has limited production (maybe US not a good market)

bottom line is it is unfortunate for him but if you don't protect your property then you can't cry when someone else makes it

truthfully he most likely never even sold products here, again who knows but i had never heard of him till this posting came up

i only buy USA anyway

Do you mean anyone can steal freely everyone you never heard about ?

Brilliant.

Can you feel any pride about a brand acting like this.

Again it is only the visible part of the iceberg. I have seen some commercials in Europe, that let me think the copies are sold here (and THAT is illegal).

Your last line makes me wonder if you are a caveman (no TV, iPod, DVD, cellphone, clothes) or an idiot.
Do you mean you would not buy a Beretta, a Glock, a Rolex, a Ferrari just because they are not made in the U.S.?
What about knives? Swiss Army Knife, Greg Lightfoot, Brian Tighe, Kirby Lambert, GTC, Rick Lala, Flavio Ikoma, Dietmar Kressler, Yuna, an early Chris Reeve made in South Africa, none of those are made in the U.S., does it mean you would not buy them? If the answer is yes, one of us is on the wrong forum, I hope it is not me...
