Huge Shipping Issue (What To Do)?

You should take more care in your dealings. Or you'll find few willing to deal with you.

I did nothing wrong, and I'm not a scammer or thief. Am I guilty of changing my mind, sure and that's not a crime.... Thanks for your assessment though.

No you just don't ship after causing the other party the hassle of shipping. You think that's not wrong?

Not my intent to hijack this thread, but.....

My take on insurance: If a package comes to me insured, I know is was insured, but do not know for how much, just that it was insured. In that case I contact the client and ask if they want it insured on the way back and for how much. If they do, I insure it for that amount and bill them accordingly.

If a package arrives uninsured the I assume, fairly, that insurance was not a factor in the client's mind and I ship it out sans insurance.

Several times the client has insured inbound and decided not to insure back outbound or for a much lesser amount. That is the client's decision, and I act accordingly.

Fortunately, I have had nothing but excellent service from the USPS with NEVER an incident, both inbound and outbound.

Should an uninsured package ever go missing, I would promptly remake or refund the item or value of the item I made and put in the package. The rest of the contents would be the loss of the recipient, because once I release it to USPS my part is done, and I would refund my part because that's my policy.

I am 80 years old And I have slightly less than no intention of getting into a dialog with one or more of you concerning my views and policies, therefore this is my first and last post in this thread.

I have looked at it from his end yes, I would be pissed as well. Only difference is, I would have insured it so it would be a none issue. If I did not insure it, I would suck it up as I have in he past.

Did you guys discuss insurance...if you really wanted it you should have said so

I've followed this thread from the start and just wanna say a few things, I just concluded a similar trade where I traded a Swamp Rat Chopweiler for a Small Sebenza 21, now granted this may not seem like a lot of money to some of you guys tradin' on the exchange but to me it was significant amount trust to someone I have never dealt with before.

After the deal was proposed but before we made a deal I contacted several members who had dealt with the member I was to trade with for some feedback, all was good, my concerns, a member who was only here 4 months was lookin' to make a trade and I was nervous, (I've traded a few knives at $100 mark even those I've insured) but I saw no reason not to, so a deal was struck.

Unfortunately I could not ship until 10 days after the deal was made,(this was all discussed at length with the trader) and was okayed by both parties, in those 10 days I wrung my hands non stop wonderin' if I was gettin' scammed, in those 10 days I scoured TGB&U forum and every bad deal I read about just wound me up more and more but I saw something else in that subforum, all the great deals that have been done, they outnumbered the bad ones.

Long story short, the day came to ship and I contacted the other party told them I had shipped the Swamp Rat through a PM here at BFC and waited for a reply still worried maybe I was gonna be out a knife, in the meantime while checking out my email I noticed an email from the member stating he had shipped the knife first thing that morning, before I even went to my PO, again I'm concerned because now I've spent a week and a half reading how people ship nothing to them selves just to get a tracking# so they can send you a valid#, (when you check a tracking# it only tells you where it left from and where it's last scanned but not where it's goin').

In the mean time more angst and doubts, (now keep in mind there was no reason for me to feel this way, the person was trading with had good feedback he was just new to a forum I've been hanging out in for nearly 15 years)

I like face to face trades, everything is out in the open and if ya get screwed its your own fault but when trade behind the inter net ya can only go by guy feelings and the opinions of others, I kept tellin' myself this was it, never again.

Well 2 days passed and the knife was delivered uninsured and no signature needed, now this deal mimicked the OPs thread in that here I did everything the OP did and the member I felt with shipped the same way as MickeyD did.

Everything worked out fine I got a knife I've always wanted, got rid a knife I never used and until this thread was contemplating more trades.

Although neither you guys may ever trade with each other you've both proven to me that I would trade with either you folks here I think things it's control when the OP made the initial post here, I think the OP should of waited till Monday check the PO before everyone added their 2 cents worth.

I would guess clear communications with a specific set of agreed to conditions along a little patience will go long way towards makin' any trade or deal more successful less stressful.

Really sorry to hear the deal went the way it did but at least nobody's out $400, the lesson I'll take away from all this is to make sure everything's clear before either side proceeds with a trade.

BTW the trade I made was with Raybo and if anyone's interested, he's a standup guy and I would trade with him anytime.

We're not all as smart as you:rolleyes:

Na buddy it's not that your not smart it's that you jumped the gun

You should have chilled out and not started a thread so quickly

I can tell your young and ya got yourself worked up

When you told the other party ya could not go thru with the trade I'm sure he would of excepted his knife back and the money the shipping cost

But ya jumped the gun and started a thread that got ya more worked up and then in a frenzy ya payed more than you wanted to to keep your honor intact

That I think shows you care........but if ya just would of chilled out and let the post office do its job this whole incident would have been far less the crisis you made it

Slow down, take it easy and I'm sorry this all happened to you

I've never had a bad deal on here and I hope you have better luck in the future

You are a bite snide but I am sure that is because you just where upset :)

Of all the threads that have come up here ALL shippers should know to insure. If its under $200 you should also add S.C.

I would never do buisness with this shipper since he said he never insures anything(unless he would insure), or anyone else that doesn't insure.

The insurance is for the protection of the shipper, not the buyer. If you ship, and the package is lost you will lose the money, as PP will side with the buyer, and so will the BFC.

I would do buisness with the OP anytime(or the shipper if he insured). Very good of you to send funds before you even knew if the knife was really lost. You also paid a sheathmaker in this thread for two sheaths, when he said you only needed to pay for one since one didn't fit well.

That said, this was a trade deal, and I wouldn't change my mind on a trade. I would also make sure the shipper was going to insure.

I think a couple of people here were overly harsh with the OP when it wasn't even clear yet if the knife would show. I've had things show Delivered before only for them to show the next day.

The OP should have waited until today to start this thread, and this all could have been avoided. Would have kept a couple of people from jumping all over him before they even knew if the knife would show.
I was quite sure it would show as soon as I started reading this thread, and would have suggested he lock the thread until today if I had seen it yesterday.

OP, you have a great knife, so in the end you get to keep your knife, and now have a great folder.

I'm very glad this worked out for both parties involved. Had it really been lost this would have been a tough situation.

Lesson...Insure your package folks, and never do buisness with someone that doesn't insure.
Lesson two...make sure you want to trade before saying so.
Lesson three...don't start a Feedback thread prematurely

edit- I'm referring to BFC trading/selling when saying always insure.

Overly harsh at the snide attitude and I apologize to anyone I may have offended.

What matters is the deal was done...sort of...

Id close this one down op, deal is done and nothing that hasn't been said already is gonna happen...course I could be wrong. I am wrong quite often.

"IMHO, you should not put something up for sale if you know you will not be able to deliver. If a buyer pays immediately, shipping should be done immediately as well. I see way too many excuses as to why an item does not ship, and if there is a issue with a transaction, that should be taken care of immediately as well. Just the way any business should be handled. If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem."

You just don't get it do you....A little advice; when you are in a hole, stop digging!

Best luck

Apparently you lack in comprehension..... It was never a sale, it was a trade.
