Huge Shipping Issue (What To Do)?

Just wanted to add:

I've known John (mikeyd) for almost 2 years now and I am positive that he is a man of character. I wouldn't hesitate to send him payment, or a knife in any circumstance. I can't speak on what went on here, but if there's one thing I know is that MikeyD is an honest person. He has shipped me a very expensive knife that I bought from him, and sure enough he didn't insure it. That's just how he is, haha.

380$ is what I ended up with and that's what a large sebenza BARELY carried is worth. No I do not want to deal with you anymore. We are done with this transaction... I'm no longer taking anymore risks with the user above. Sorry, jus how it is at this point....

you were offered $400 for a used carried knife, to compensate for ill-will and not receiving your trade and you accepted.

if you have sour grapes about it, you could refund the money in full, and get your knife back. i would imagine.

the deal is otherwise concluded, yes? we can all move on.

Details of deal

1.we had a DEAL. AGREED DEAL.
2. We agreed to ship next day.
3. I email day of and ask can you still ship today.
4. He responds "yep" nothing else.
5. I ship out.
6. Hours later he tells me he never shipped and couldn't.
7. Package marked DELIVERED.
8. OP says he never got it?
9. I ask if he intends to refund my package value or knife in some way and he tells me it my fault and I'm basically screwed.
10. We talk more and he realizes he's in the wrong and OFFERS after MUCH discussion TO PAYPAL ME THE VALUE OF MY KNIFE. I AGREE AND HE DOES PAYPAL ME THE MONEY.
11. END OF TRANSACTION.

Number 10 is VERY incorrect. I did not, and don't feel I was in the wrong. I did not cheat you or intend to EVER! You felt if the knife never showed up I should be out of luck cause didn't insure your knife. If you had my 2 knife and I never received the Sebenza what would you have done for me? Would you have sent my knives back to me? I would like an answer to this question.

i feel in this case, step 7, the Post Office committed a blunder. possibly even a crime, imho.

they did NOT deliver the knife, and marked the transaction closed. they retained the knife WITHOUT saying they did.

i should consider a complaint to the Post Master General on policies.

since this was done over a weekend, nothing could be done about it either.

the receiver had to obtain the knife, at his own additional cost, and time. which feels unfair. both parties freaked out as a result.

Yes I would GLADLY have sent your knives back if you never received mine are you joking? But that is not the case first you backed out of a deal we had agreed to, THEN you claimed you never received mine. I'm done here guys. Deal is over... Goodbye.

Someone with 26 posts need not reply.

So I've been following this thread and was just going to watch it as it passes, but this comment puzzles me. Did you state that you were only interested in opinions from people with a certain number of posts?? Does this arbitrary number somehow impact someone's shipping experience, knowledge of the law or dealing with others across distances?? Also, YOU asked for the opinion of the masses here on the forum and now seem perturbed by some of the replies.......you either didn't think this through to it's logical conclusion or you're just a masochist????? I hope my number of posts meets your minimum level to make this comment.....

Sure, you have enough posts to reply.

I had every right to rethink, and change my mind period. I find it hard to believe that anyone would think I should be out, and not him even though he did not insure the package.

I'll bet none of you ever changed your minds before...

No, you were bound by contract to carry out your part of the bargain.

Just curious, have you contacted your post office with the tracking number to see if it could be located?
Sorry I have read most post but not all.

Why wouldnt you insure a $400 knife?

I am going to say this again

I ship knives worth thousands of dollars to people and I do not get insurance

I just spoke to the great Paul Long that gets the finest knives in the world shipped to him every day and when he ships them out he does not insure them

You guys make me laugh when you talk about insuring a used Sebenza :)

We're not all as smart as you:rolleyes:

Change your mind after agreeing to a deal, confirming you are good to ship the day of, then just not following through? Nope never. I'd go ahead with it just on principle.
