HUNT Crooked River

Just got mine in - first production #175/400. This knife is a sweet piece and I see it becoming my go-to camping/hiking folder. The blade came super sharp and perfectly dead-on centered from the factory, but the pivot needed a little adjustment. I'm also feeling some axis lock bar stick that I'm sure will go away with breaking it in. Over all it is a lot of blade for the money given its robust construction and use of materials. Below are a few cell phone pics. Can't wait to get it working on the trails this summer!

Looks great, this folder has really got my attention. I might need to sell another reel to pick this one up.

On another note, for those looking to see how it stacks up in size check out the pics below. I've got it set up against some other common Benchmade knives.

From top to bottom:
1. 943
2. 551-1 Griptilian
3. 15080-1 Crooked River
4. 710S
5. 950 Rift

I'm not a big fan of the exposed blade tang and I wish the bolster were Ti...still, this knife is magnificent!!! So many awesome knives this year!!!! So little $$$$. :thumbdn:

I feel the same way about the exposed tang. That gap bugs me a little. But it still looks decent overall.

The 15080 has the same build as the 810 Contego except for two factors.

1.) the blade on the Crooked River is thinner.
Contego - .156"
Crooked River - .130"

2.) the liners on the Crooked River are thicker.
Contego - .050"
Crooked River - .060"

Same HD pivot as the Contego, Loco and Adamas - .270"

They just became available at KSF for $178.50.
Beautiful knife and great blade shape!! Definitely my next!

Very cool to compare it to the Contego specs. The Crooked River really measures up. Great looking, Great in the hand, Great price. Cant wait to hold the DymondWood version.

Thanks for the comparison. Great knife, but next to the 710 it's too big. Bring in a 'mini' version and I'll take one!

Long live the 710 ! One knife to rule them all ! I keep hoping for another dealer-exclusive 710 to roll out.

But in the meantime , I think I might give the Crooked River a shot. I like the big size. And I'm sure a mini would prove to be quite popular too.

And here I am thinking this bad boy is gonna be my dress knife. ;)

It would be for me, but I'm a rather informal kind of guy. Mike though, appreciates smaller knives and if he needs a reason to pick one up filling up space in the console of his pickup would be it. ;)
I like big knives, Contego, Adamas, Rukus, Skirmish, 710, all get passing grades from me.

Yeah, you and I have very similar tastes on the Benchmade front.

Strength in numbers. :D I do like the occasional smaller knife, like the minigrip, but at work when I have to splice cable, trim some drywall, scrape epoxy, a larger knife wins every time. As soon as I walk into an office though, and the knife needs to be used, a smaller knife will most always be much more welcome. I totally get why people want to be discreet and I agree with it 100%, but a large 4"= blade folder is an awesome sight to behold and use.

Truck knife!

:D

True. I'm about as informal as they come too... Heck, I got married in Wranglers, a western cut dress coat, and my favorite 5X Bailey hat :D

Ya know Charlie, maybe I need to break out of my comfort zone, and give a bigger knife an honest try...
I have no doubt the bigger knives would be comfortable to use. I'm 6'2 and 200 pounds and have fairly big hands. One of my problems is, I'm
such a creature of habit that when I find something I like, I stick with it. One of my other faults is, I don't like change :D
How many people do you know that have carried a Mini Grip almost daily since they were released lol... I'm not sure if that is something to be proud of, or embarrassed :D

My choice in hunting knives will never change. I have my favorite size for hunting for numerous reasons, but for EDC knives I may truly be missing out on some great knives...
I guess if I follow through with this, I'm gonna need to figure out which pocket to clip the knife in, because a bigger knife won't clip into the watch pocket of my blue jeans :D

I guess another reason for me to try one of these is, the Crooked River is only about 15 miles north of where I live :D
