I try to always hunt on my birthday and on Thanksgiving Day (I was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1955). Yesterday was my 70th birthday so I planned to make it an extra special day to me. I chose to use a Ruger M77 270 WIN that my wife bought for me the first hunting season after we were first married in 1977. The sheath knife was a Christmas gift from my parents in 1968 and the Buck 301 was my Christmas 1972 gift from my Grandmother. I didn't see a single deer yesterday, but it was a glorious fall day in the deer woods. Even had a great buddy from NJ come down and join me in the hunt.

Happy belated Birthday Bruce. Any day in the woods is a day we'll spent. Add a good friend and that only adds to the enjoyment.I try to always hunt on my birthday and on Thanksgiving Day (I was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1955). What a great day for you Bruce, filled with memories and things of past great times. Doesn't get much better, getting a deer or two would have been nice.
Nice knives and happy belated birthday.

Thank you!Congratulations Bruce!

That is a beautiful buck. I love the character on him.hunterjrg
Everyone's experience is different and by no means do I intend to compare mine to yours, but I also fell from a tree while trying to pull an old stand down a few years ago. 3 weeks later, on the mend, my buddy loaded a crossbow for me and I got back out there and arrowed (or bolted or whatever) this guy.

Here's hoping you're back out doing what you love soon. Keep up the fighting spirit.

I also had concerns about being able to shoot a bow again. The doctors wouldn't commit to anything but encouraged me to take the PT very seriously for the best recovery, which I did. I lost a bit of joint mobility and have some ongoing chronic pain, but I work around it and am back to archery and other things that were put on hold for awhile. I shot this guy 2 years after the accident. I hope like crazy you also have a full enough recovery to shoot again. That is a beautiful buck. I love the character on him.
My biggest passion is bowhunting big Whitetails. Being a in the trades and working for a great contractor I have the flexibility to chase them. Spend enough time doing something the odds are stacked.
In the brighter side the doctor appointment for the spine went very well with great recovery results. Follow up appointment for early January. My wrist/arm/hand appointment is Friday. I have nonstop considerable pain with all the hardware they installed in me. There is a possibility I may never shot a bow againbut I’ll focus on the bright side and fight.
Thank you for sharing pictures of your buck and your encouragement. There has been a few of you now that have wished me a full and speedy recovery. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I truly enjoy reading and seeing your posts
Jon

I have endured 12 weeks of an identical brace following bicep reconstruction. Makes you appreciate being able to use both arms. At least with that brace I could use my arm. With shoulder surgery you cannot use your arm for a while.hunterjrg
