I broke my cold steel Spartan!!!!!

I'm no metallurgist but from the looks of that I'd say there was a flaw in the steel or the HT. Just what it looks like to me. If I knew what you were doing I could make a more educated guess.

Kind of tough to see but it looks like there is corrosion in the middle of the break. An inclusion in the steel, perhaps?

Got the blade off too- those pics are coming- that's when it get juicy:P

Ok guys won't be on for Afew hours so have fun

No I don't hate cold steel- yes I love this knife and I'm not terribly happy

Also it was a &/$@& to get that apart with out any bits

So what were you doing with it?

Well the price was right. The great thing about the forums is that it is really easy to hit the 'back' button and go on your way.

Give them a ring, my money is on a new one getting sent out, that looks like a flaw in the steel, not an inherent weakness in design.

If the tang broke before the scales buckled or the stop pin ripped out there was a flaw in the blade.

The scales should rip apart (Buckle) long before the blade would break like that in that model, no thick liners...

Whats the big mystery here? Just state in one word what activity broke the knife. If you can type all that other crap in multiple posts then one word would be easy. It's not rocket science.

If the blade legitimately broke then give CS a chance to make it right. Something just isn't right here.

Have a chance to type- your welcome people pushy :P

Long story short it got dropped very hardly- as a result of a painful trip(I don't like Brogans) it landed/bounced of of a large piece of deadwood(dense crap too, used for a tomahawk target)
Wasn't abusing the knife- was getting ready to abuse it and didn't get the chance it broke from my f'ing tumble

Sure it's been abused a bit in the past but nothing that could have any direct result with that

Long story? Maybe not but had to actually type it out

Input? Call me stupid, call me whatever I don't care- your just pissed I turned out not to be a troll

Input? I've done some bad things to knives in the past and I've broken my fare share just playing around but I've NEVER seen anything line this, and I didn't even get a chance lol

It is not like he won't say why it broke, it's inconvenient to explain for the moment. Have patience guys. So far he has posted pics to back up what he said so have some patience.

Stock removal blades sometimes have flaws in it, if forged I read somewhere it is not so likely. The Spartan's locking tab at the tang is bloody huge and normally would take a lot of force to shear off. I blame defects in the stock material or too high hardness from improper ht. :)

Not true.
If anything, it just adds more chance for screwing things up.
Forged or stock removal, the critical thing is the heat treating process (and not just the hardening part of it).

As has been said, forging doesn't make the steel you start with any better. The best you can really hope for is to not make it worse.;)

You tripped and fell with an open knife? That could have been much worse than a broken knife. I'm glad you're OK.

That's the funny thing- the lock is still in 100% working order- the blade failed

I know!!!
It was one of those moments you sit back and go"holy crap I just screwed up... I could of just horribly injured myself.... Mistake!" learn I guess... If I was wearing boots Like I usually am it wouldn't have happened or it would have been a more violent fall... Scary to think about...

But I still lost one of my favorite knives :grumpy:

Edit- wow typing while recovering from a day of marching things just dont come out right....

Sounds like an i.d. 10 t error to me.

I've owned and used cs knives for a long time and NEVER come close to anything like this.
