I've had nothing but bad experiences out of the Remington bulk boxes. It was almost like the primers were not complete or something. My 22/45 would eat it all and has but those dang Remington bulk boxes always seemed to have this issue of failure to fire.

Yes. You get what you pay for. Rem bulk sucks. Consistency is the hallmark of quality ammo. If you don't care where the bullet lands, then get the cheapest...
Federal bulk is quite good. Federal pistol target is better.
CCI is also good. CCI Velocitors are the fastest .22LR I've chrony'd (full 40gr bullet!) and shoot super-tight groups out of my CZ. But they are wasted on paper.

I've never really had accuracy issues out of my marlin or Ruger from any ammo EXCEPT some cheapo lead from the hardware store. Thunder something or other. Couple of mags and you'd have a lead lined barrel! Nasty stuff...

My Dad once picked up a box of really cheap Yugoslavian 22LR on a whim. It was so bad it didn't even sound right when it was fired, and I swore I could actually see the bullets meandering out of the barrel as Dad touched off a few.He only shot 3 or 4 of them before pulling the bolt out of my little H&R Plainsman to peek down the barrel...

It was so filthy after just a few rounds that we could hardly see daylight through it

Nanchez shooters supply and AIM surplus are both good. Cheaper Than dirt isn't but they won't hose you. Check ammoengine.com and ammoseek.com for the best price and go from there.

I just shoot whatever is cheapest, or lately whatever I can find. Remington thunderbolt and golden bullet have the most duds, I've shot a lot of Federal bulk and I don't recall having any problems with it. When my 10/22 was brand new it wouldn't run anything but CCI mini mags. After about 500-1000 rounds it would eat anything, a friend of mine had the same experience with his 10/22.

Thanks bud,

I can find 1000 mini mags, but its from a "broker of guns" and that site is confusing lol... Like fleabay or something :D

Havent had any fail to fire. Put close to 600 rounds through it so far... The wife got groups just over 2" at 50 yards with the federal target grade performance rounds but got around an inch groupings with the mini mags. 25 rounds of each 3 separate times proved the same thing. So we just figured they shoot better LOL

The wife has had a few issues though.... A few times there were some double feeds and a couple failures to completely eject the spent shell. All with the federal rounds... But im not sure thats due to the rounds. All the double feeds are with the 25 round mag, never the 10 round.. Im thinking that may have something to do with it.

What brand is the 25 rounder? Until the Ruger BX25 mags came out Butler Creek made the best ones I could find. I would wait for them to go on sale for ~$12 and buy a few and consider them disposable because they do wear out after a couple years depending on how much you shoot. And when they're brand new the spring is a little too stiff so I load them up and let them sit like that for a week and that usually gets the spring tension where it needs to be until the spring wears out.

WW- check out Rimfirecentral.com and rugerforum.net. The amount of info on there will make your head spin.

Its a BX25.

Maybe the spring is stiff. Ill leave some rounds in it a bit and see if that helps.

Will do, thanks man!

Those are rebuild-able so you could also try taking it apart and carefully tweaking the spring.

And give the gun a really really good cleaning too, just to make sure. All the material from breaking in is still floating around in there and might be gumming it up. Or just powder residue.

Competed in a live stock judging competition with my FFA chapter today, first time doing, really learned alot

Speaking of 22's, I've always had good luck with federal. I might also be picking up a new 22 rifle sometime, I'm leaving toward the 10/22 takedown, but I also like the henry ar7

AR7 is a good gun, it's accurate enough and reliable but the trigger sucks. It's super light but I was surprised at how large the buttstock was but it has to be in order to fit everything inside. I had mine for a year or two and the cool factor wore off so I sold it.

Look around for used .22's at pawn shops and whatnot. Might find a couple cool old rifles for the price of a new 10/22 takedown.

I already have a 10/22, a marlin model 75 and another marlin, I really wanted a take down rifle for when I go hiking and camping

I have been wanting a Rossi single shot combo with .22lr and .410 barrels. I have a Rossi Tuffy .410 and it takes down easy enough and is super light, but it's not a repeater.

The AR7 is lighter and less expensive than the 10/22 takedown but I don't think it's going to be as durable in the long run. The lightweight parts in it felt cheap to me.

We have the rossi 22/410, it's a nice little gun.

I'm really lea ING towards the 10/22, plus I can get it in kryptek

I like this 10\22. Of course once it's finished it'll cost more than most "better" 22s.

The barrel is costing just over 300  The trigger assembly is another 200 something. Then optics... VX1 rimfire.. $230 or so...

The rifle itself was only 300.

Smart? Prolly smarter buying a better rifle from the start... But not as fun :D

And the wife doesn't have a clue how much extra I put in it... Just what the rifle itself cost.

It'll be nice when it's done though.

there's a reason people call the Rem stuff "blunderbolts"...

the golden stuff is not much better

if you like your gun, and i'm sure you do, that loosey goosey lead tipped stuff will foul... a lot. be prepared to use the right chems to clean that stuff or squibs will happen. google it :D imho.

the Federal bulk copper wash shoots great, and isn't much more pricey.

their accumatch is lead, but harder it seems, and shoots very well.

Some day I'm going to start with a bare aftermarket receiver and assemble a 10/22 from scratch with all high-end aftermarket stuff. Then I'm not tossing perfectly good parts and I'll have a stronger receiver.

"bug-a-salt"

your next gun ;)

for me, i know long see inset vids. i probably don't click on them here, because... i can't.

flash sucks :D

ironcially, i'm watching "The Flash" on Netflix.

also, "last man standing". hah.

I have a couple .22's. Really happy with both. Got one of the Walther MP5SD5 clones, which is incredibly fun to shoot, for the rifle thing. It's a tack driver too, far more accurate than I. Costs about 3 bills, which is pretty darn good for something that feels as close to an MP5 as it does. I do eventually want one of those POF 9mm clones though. And I have a little Beretta 21A bobcat. Nice little pistol. It works great for about 50 rounds, and then the barrel gets too dirty, and it starts having FTE issues. But, frankly, if you're shooting 50 rounds before you clean it, in any kind of self-defense situation from a .22 pistol, which should be a backup gun at best, you're doing it wrong.
