'Mericans don't use no kelvin or no celsius or none of that fancy-pants degree measurin'. If it ain't outdated and obsolete, we don't want nuthin' but nuthin' to do wit it.

Kelvin was Irish born, Scotland educated.....so close enough. Boston wouldn't be half as populated as it is if it weren't for the Irish.

Well, apparently some of my ancestors were Irish mixed with some Viking so maybe me 'n Kal-what's-his-butt do have something in common!

Got an Indian princess mixed in there? :D

Maybe so, but that's probably on Grandpa's side of the family. :D

Seriously though, from what I've read, the first ancestor on my Grandma's side of the family that moved to the US was from Ireland, and his family/ancestors were Irish and Vikings mixed together from when the Vikings raided Ireland.

Finally found some Wi-Fi so I thought I'd post a few pics from our trip.

Here we are loading up the vehicle. Oz is making sure we don't forget anything.

A misty morning at the Red River Gorge.

First dinner was a relatively simple affair.

I recently found out that my first ancestor ony dad's side came over as a Hessian soldier during the revolution

Same story with my Grandpa's side. Three Hessian brothers came over to fight, but apparently didn't like how they were treated or where they were or something because all 3 left the Brits and settled in Blue Grass VA. My Grandpa still owns some of their land.

I have mostly Irish and Nordic blood as well. But most of that blood took a detour through Cajun Country. Now it's just a big mess of gumbo.

Anyone know of a place you can send wood off to to be professionally stabilized? I was thinking about getting a knife handle made from some maple from around here.

I'd think it would be costly. Plenty of DIY info available on the intawebz....

What kind of wood we talkin' about? Lots of eastern hardwoods (such as maple, cherry, walnut, red birch, butternut, ash, hickory - there are more.....) don't really need stabilization, IMO - especially for something as small as knife scales. Unless it's punky or has a lot of voids (like some (not all) burls and spalted maple pieces) I'd just use it. Unless you're talking softwoods - like white or yellow pine - in which case......I'd go with different wood ;). My 2¢.

Maple. There's a tree next to my house. Thought it would be a cool thing to have years later. Thanks for the advice. :)
