I don´t like Spyderco, help me!

To answer your question...you should seek help :p.
I've heard some people don't like their looks and maybe even I felt that way at some point...I can't remember. Anyway, they'll probably grow on you and if not then stick with what you like. I used to be a diehard Benchmade fan but now almost all of my folders are Spyderco.

Gotta go with what works for ya.

I hear you on wanting to like Spyderco, although for different reasons...I love the leaf shaped blades and for me, that opening hole is a fantastic idea, but the spydercos I've handled just don't fit well in my hands... :(

The tenacious I had was a blister factory for me, the Delicas I've handled were only a bit better, and I find even my Endura is really uncomfortable a lot of the time. I've heard them described as really comfortable and ergonomic, but I guess my hands are just oddly shaped or something... :grumpy:

"i hate brand X, prove me wrong" sounds like trolling to me.

He never said he hated Spyderco. He said he didn't like them because of some of common design characteristics. He then proceeded to compliment them and then ask if there was a Spyderco model he should be looking at when compared to some of his current "likes."

I can see how your first reaction would be to assume this is trolling but I don't see it. I think he's asking for some legit advice.

In my experience, the BM710 is a great knife (I own the D2 version) - BUT the one knife that Spyderco makes that trumps it everytime is the classic Military (I own 3).
Spyderco makes the ugliest knives you'll ever love, but you'll never know that until you use one. They aren't made to look at, they're made to cut stuff, so if you spend more time looking at your knives than using them, don't even bother.

My Benchmades are all gathering dust, but there are Spydercos in my pockets every day. ;)

+1, true statment.

just buy what you like man...thats pretty much all that matters...if you like BM, carry a BM

tell me this, does this look ugly? to me it is a great lookin knife and a great feelin knife, and it cuts like no ones business.

that looks so ugly i pity you. i will make the supreme sacrifice please send that to me and i will suffer it's ugliness.

I know what you mean. The "wide, leafshape blades" they make are unusual looking, and not too elegant. But man, I love their knives, and can't stop buying them.

They do have some more traditional looking fixed blades, perhaps take a look at those.

lol nevar! :D this is my EDC man i cant just give it away  and on the topic of aesthetics, i think it is purely subjective, but to me a FFG, satin finish, and digicam G10 look very nice

I like folders and I have some really nice ones, but I don´t own A Spyderco. I just don´t like their design. I can´t really put my finger on it but there is someting about Spydercos wide, leafshape blades, that I just can´t cope with. I want to like Spyderco because they make nice and good folders but I just can´t like them. I´m much more of a Benchmade fan. I´ve fondeld several Spydercos at "my" knifeshop, but always, nehh, it´s not for me... Should I seek help or continuing byuing Benchmades??? Is there a Spyderco modell that beats the big BM 710, or the small 707 Sequel??

Syderco centofaunte III::eek:

I wouldn't sweat it. Like others have said, buy what you like. It took me many years to buy my first Spydie because I didn't care for their looks. When I finally got one, I realized that they worked really well with the thumbhole and they were very well constructed. I'm still not crazy about how they look, but the other good features trumped the aesthetics.

you should stick to BM then.

My advice is to buy what you like and enjoy.

Nobody says you have to. It is your money. Buy what you want.

i say buy what makes you happy

stick with what you like

Gotta go with what works for ya.

hey you are'nt on this earth to win popularity contests. buy what you like & do'nt look back

just buy what you like man...thats pretty much all that matters...if you like BM, carry a BM

I don't like Benchmade and spyderco as a brand.
So what. :)

+1 to all the above. I don't understand the point of these kinds of posts/questions.

stop trolling.

How is he trolling?

He never said he hated Spyderco. He said he didn't like them because of some of common design characteristics. He then proceeded to compliment them and then ask if there was a Spyderco model he should be looking at when compared to some of his current "likes."

Okay, maybe not trolling, but c'mon.... I personally don't like SOG, Cold Steel, Gerber or CRKT; however, I do acknowledge that there are some good things about some of their knives. Most people feel that way about at least one knife company. But you don't see me or others posting about why we should like what we don't like.

I don't like liver, I like steak instead. But apparently liver has some health benefits. Should I try to start liking liver or just keep eating steak? Is there a kind of liver (chicken, veal, regular) that beats filet mignon or T-bone steaks?

See what I mean? Maybe I'm just cranky tonight.

Spyderco are ugly knives, but I do love them so. I love that high ramp and the great g10 grip material. Makes working with it on wood for the Delica and Endura (not used any other) really nice and controllable when you can put on some nice pressure.

The Spyder holes work well most the time. I prefer the studs as I tend to slip on the holes a bit at times. They are functional and thats why I got it. If I want a non ugly knife, I get another brand.

As many have already stated, Spyderco can grow on you -BIG TIME. It is only after you start using them that the appreciation comes in full.

I would say you should use your next big knife purchase to try out a popular Spyderco model. If worst comes to worst you can trade it for a Benchmade in the exchange forum and only loose a little money on shipping. Spyderco knives seem to hold their value well.

I like Spyderco. I also like Nissan and Subaru. I sit there and stare at my Millie for minutes, then I cut up boxes and do yard work with it. I stare at my Blue Manix for hours, but never use it. I find the same beauty in both my Spydies but one in the form of "formation" and one in "awe of function and utility." I can't get over how well the Millie fits my hand and cuts so well. I can't get over how smoothly my 240SX accelerates. Personally, I like and own Benchmades as well. I like and own my Mercedes-Benz C230. I like all of them but for different reasons. You know what I mean. For me functionality became as appealing to me as design when I got my first Spydie.
