I don´t like Spyderco, help me!

I have the exact same one. I think it's gorgeous.

Gorgeous?
This is gorgeous in my opinion:

That spyderco looks like a bulky work knife.

+1 to all the above. I don't understand the point of these kinds of posts/questions.

Okay, maybe not trolling, but c'mon.... I personally don't like SOG, Cold Steel, Gerber or CRKT; however, I do acknowledge that there are some good things about some of their knives. Most people feel that way about at least one knife company. But you don't see me or others posting about why we should like what we don't like.

I don't like liver, I like steak instead. But apparently liver has some health benefits. Should I try to start liking liver or just keep eating steak? Is there a kind of liver (chicken, veal, regular) that beats filet mignon or T-bone steaks?

See what I mean? Maybe I'm just cranky tonight.

You've been here long enough to see these types of posts...over...and over..and over again. :)

I try to remember not everyone that comes here is a knife nut....some just come looking for advice or to air out their preferences. Slowstarter seems to be looking for a reason to like Spyderco probably because of reading posts on this forum. He doesn't like the way they look....some share his opinion...some don't. We should start a poll so people can vote as to wether or not he buys one or not. :p

Luckily knives aren't for looking at.... There is also a huge variety of Spydies, not all fit the "ugly" profile :P

Try and tell me this one is ugly.

It's ugly.:D

Handle is to big for the blade.
Ugly hole, ugly serrations.
Handle looks like cheap plastic, could be the lighting on the photo.
Texture on handle isn't pretty either. And it has a dirty green colour.

It looks like a knife meant to do tough work.

Couple years ago i passed on Spyderco because i didnt like the looks. I saw the Manix reviews and how it was a tank but didnt get one. I like bigger folders.

Then they quit making the big one so i really missed out. I recently aquired one and it is by far my favorite folder. The feel in the hand and everything about it are amazing. I also ordered a Chinook III and love the way it feels too.

My brother has a stainless Police but it doesnt feel as good as the Manix or Chinook in the hand. To me anyways.

Buy what you want.

Spyderco has hundreds of different models of knives, I'm sure there is one design you might like. They arn't the prettiest knives out there, but they are super sharp and cut like hell.

I've never been impressed with any spyderco I've come in contact with (I know blasphemy) just my personal opinion. They just felt cheap. Lot's of blade play and so on. That being said I've never handled a manix or sage 2 and plan to try them out but as of now there not my cup o tea. and yes I've owned more than one spyderco. I personally would take a benchmade anyday but it's a preference thing

Not to flame, but I own 20+ spydies and none have blade play while locked and open. Which ones have you tried?

Manix and Sage are more premium spydies, but even the Delica, Native, Endura don't have blade play in my experiences.

I do agree the FRN handled models do feel "cheap" in comparison to G10, Aluminum, Ti, and CF.

For the OP,
Spyderco's looked horrid to me when I first started my "habit", but all it took was one to see how functional they were as tools. The rest was history. I now adore these ugly ducklings. What was once ugly is now beautiful to me. ;)

i used to think spydercos were ugly. Then i bought one and that one turned into eight.

Same here. :foot:

Seriously, I remember looking at a Spyderco knife (I think it was a Delica) and thinking - Who the hell would waste money on such an ugly thing?

As I got more serious about knives and read up on reviews and such, I was intrigued by Spyderco's reputation and devoted following. I decided to nab a Salt 1, because I think H1 is absolutely amazing, and the whole "function over form" mentality was reinforced. I think the biggest thing to get over is the opening hole. Once you use Spydies, you grow to love them and even the overall aesthetics of the different models.

I made it to 100+ knives before I bought a Spyderco and then this damn Para D2 "thing" hit the streets. Now I'm looking for Spydie #6. I carry and use my knives and have always disliked a thumb stud so I am sold. I also like variety and am no fanboy so stick with what works for you and if that means aesthetics then so be it.

I was lucky enough that a Spyderco Delica was the best high-end knife I could afford. It looked ugly, sure, but it was way better than the stuff sitting next to it for maybe 20 dollars less. I knew enough about knives, back then, to know that Spyderco makes high-quality stuff.

With regard to blade play, my FRN delica had some, but it was more due to the FRN flexing than any construction flaw. It was well worth it for the excellent texturing.

I have to admit, when I first got into knives I didnt really like spyderco's designs. But, as I saw them more and more, they grew on me and now I cant wait to get one.

About the only spyderco that appeals to me it the military, but its too close to my 710 in size and function:( That is the only reason I haven't bought one yet. As soon as a have a few extra bucks kicking around I will most likely fold and buy a mili so I can enjoy the spyderco quality and function. I am a BM fan though, the axis lock is one of the few truly ambidextrous locks out there

I also used to not like Spyderco because most of their blades had serrations and I much prefer a plain edge;
this was settled however when they began to offer more and more plain blades
as for blade play, none of my 30+ Spydercos has such thing

Spyderco's are well made and fit my hand in a way other brands don't hardly ever match.
They look fine to me.

What a ridiculous thread.

Why on earth would you want people to talk you into liking something that you don't like?

But to actually contribute, here's a Spyderco that doesn't look like most of the others IMO, and happens to be one that I want REALLY bad:
