I don't own an ESEE. Tell me why I should.

To be honest it was the Rand quote on the ESEE site that sold me.

Now I just gotta find someone who has a 5 in stock.

Having not read it before, and becuase i've heard it spoken of so highly here it's currently on my short list of books to read.

i know the movie is coming out, will be cool, but still want to read it. it's kinda like how ive been following the walking dead for a few years and now its got it's tv spot. i like seeing those small changes for better or worse that goes into a fim from book. sorta like tom bombadil's absence in fellowship.

not to derail the thread, but curious as to if MisterCory has decided if Esee is for him or not..

Because ESEE knives make great troll-slayers.. Make up your own mind, bud.

Yeah read the book! its a nice quick read and really fun/interesting. I too wonder what they will cut out, or if they will make it into a two part epic...there is a ton of adventures/battles in the book!

Because corvettes are fast as hell, and attract the entirely wrong type of woman. Which are fun for about 2 hours.

As for an ESEE, dont. If you can't do it with a pocket knife and a machete, it's not worth doing.

2 hours? That's about 1 hr 56 minutes more than I need.

For you, I don’t know.

The reason I do is because they’re high quality, American made, durable, hold an edge well, good looking, reasonably priced, and the best warranty in the business bar-none. But most of all they’re backed by two owners who have flat stated that they will never succumb to the BS, hype or flat lying that goes on in the gear industry and if it ever came to that, they would just walk away from the knife business. They won’t lie to customers or mistreat customers. They, on a daily basis, go out of their way to do something for a customer that they have no real obligation to do.

Jeff and Mike are instructors and thus preach skills over gear. They’re way too modest about the products they offer and if there is something that will work better for your application, they’ll recommend someone else’s product!

Get your first ESEE blade and you’ll go “Now, I get it.” :D

If he hasn't already, I'm sure Jeff will chime in here and tell you that it's all BS and you don't need one.

But if you decide that it's not all BS, and that you need a knife of some sort, then here goes:

ESEE knives are well-made, without being extravagant, and will do what they are designed to do. That's reason enough for me.

ESEE knives have the strangest and most wonderful warranty I know of. I won't attempt to recite that warranty here, except to say that if you break it, they appear to simply replace it. They will make fun of you if you do something stupid though, and they will likely do it in this forum. They are kind enough not to mention names.

The people that run ESEE knives seem to avoid the ridiculous marketing and posing that is so rampant in the industry/gear culture, which I find refreshing.

All of the ESEE knives I've purchased have been made in the United States, and I like to pay money to people in this country whenever possible.

Can't think of any reason. You'd be just as well with any other brand if it fits your fancy. If you need someone to convince you to buy one of our knives, then you really don't belong here ;)

that's about what i wanted to say, but figured it wasn't my place. glad you chimed in, jeff. i can't believe how arrogant people can be these days. strutting in here like they own the world and demanding we convince them to lower themselves to our level... go buy a $$$$ knife so you can pat yourself on the back and admire it on the mantle from your armchair. don't choke on your ascot.

To the OP

1) Have you done any research on what these knives are?
2) Have you compared the attributes of these knives to your needs?

After you've done these two things and you think an ESEE knife might be useful to you, come back, give us some info on what you plan to do with it, and we'll try to help. Until then a couple of individuals have posted some of the good general attributes of the knives.

As an aside the folks here can seem a little gruff at times... ok they are. But your post looks like you've put maybe just a fraction more than no effort at all into this. That kind of wanton laziness (even if it is apparent and not actual) gets under people's skin quickly.

God bless,
Adam

I don't think the OP was being demanding, rude or a smartass. I think this type of question is par for the course on Bladeforums so he was just following course here. With that said, I agree with jumpmonkey's post. We can be a little gruff but we also expect people to be inidviduals and ask useful questions about a product, not try to get people to convince them to buy it. Again, it's just not the way we operate around here.

Yes, depending on how hostile you are you could have read it:

“Give me one damn reason I should buy an ESEE knife!”

or

“So why do you guys like ESEE knives so much and why should I also try one?”

I took it as the latter.

Pick up an Izula. One can be had new for forty bucks. It won't be your first.

I just got my second ESEE yesterday, after the izzy, I got a 6. Blown away.

Buying knives is a kinda personal thing. You got to fiqure out what you need or want in a knife yourself. I did a lot of research and wound up with the Izula and rc4, Because I wanted no nonsense user knives. Add to that the quality, Sheath systems, Warranty and their pretty hard to beat.

You should never buy something because someone told you, but it helps to ask around and see what people recommended. With the warranty this product has, the amount of research and development goes into each knife more than speaks for its self also it doesnt hurt when you ask around and see a great group of people here and we all own multiples of this product. and still finding ways to buy more.:D

Why is everyone jumping down this guy's throat? Essentially he is asking people to tell him about ESEE and their opinions on the knives. He just didn't say it like that...give him a break.

Here are a few reasons why I bought them:
-American made
-Excellent warranty
-I like the way they look
-I like the way they work
-Not outrageously expensive
-Robustness
Oh yeah, and like pitbull said, so you can be badass.
