I encountered an armed burglar & held him at gunpoint!!! – NOT A JOKE!!!

Glad to hear you are safe and Toby didn't get any guns, knives, or valuables

I myself have had my home broken into 3 or 4 times and each time they took game systems, CDs and such.

Glad to hear all are OK, I too thought about how different it might have been if the idiot had grabbed and loaded one of your guns.

That’s what concerned me later…they were already loaded. He’d walked right by a SKS in my room with a 30 round mag of AP ammo, Winchester 1300 riot shotgun loaded with 00 buck, a loaded .308 Enfield, and a loaded Mossberg 500 pistol grip with 00 buck. Then of course there were the other weapons he walked by…like my machete by my bedroom door, my Cold Steel skull head city stick, my DogFather LE & various other Busse Kin knives…

glad that everyone is safe, do not second guess the fact that he will probably get little or no time in prison, if you guys do not attend all aspects of the trial, unless he pleas out.
if he has prior offenses and your state has habitual felon, make sure that the da pursue's that and stay behind the case if you do not then he will get little or no time and since he know his way around in the house, do not underestimate the possibility of him returning.

remember one of the best burglar deterrents is a dog inside the house, even a small dog that can run loose in the house.

Yeah, now we’ll always have to worry about him trying to return or seek revenge…sucks.

We had 3 large dogs in the house (Weimaraners) & they bark quite loudly. They were in cages (so they don’t tear up the house while we’re gone) but he wouldn’t have known that until he was inside.

I get a kick out of the fact the guy was smart enough to realize the alarm stickers were bogus but to stupid to use the ladder.

Yeah, Dad bought those at Radio Shack. I wondered if he was afraid he was too drunk to climb the ladder. It was so tall; he would have had to put it at such a low angle it would be like a ramp that he’d have to balance on. One slip & he could rack himself or break his neck.

As far as your siding....... add a pinch of TSP(trisodium phospate) to the bleach/water bucket. Experiment with the mixtures. Bleach will kill things on the surface but you want to get a tad deeper to kill the offenders.
I've also heard that Simple Green is approved by all siding manufactureres for cleaning siding.
I'd email the manufacturer of your siding and see what they recommend you use.

Thanks for the tip! :D

Good Job. If he has any property (unlikely) sue his butt and take it. At least get yourself a moped.

Hmmm…you know, I’ve been wanting a moped for a few years now… :D

What no Busses? :D

At least it was INFI! :D I had been carrying my GW recently, but a few days ago I rotated to my SS4. It’s larger than the GW, & weighs less!

I myself have had my home broken into 3 or 4 times and each time they took game systems, CDs and such.

I’d have been really pissed if he took or damaged my laptop. I haven’t backed it up in a few months, and I have a lifetime of data on it.

This reads like fiction to me...don't mean to offend anyone, but it never goes down like that.

You showed restraint and control. Well done!

Others may of simply drilled the intruder but your restraint allowed the best possible outcome from a bad situation.

I'm glad you and your family are safe.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Nice work! Glad another law abiding citizen is putting his CCW to use. Awesome job, glad everyone is safe and I hope you guys press charges to the fullest extent.

Thank God you guys are all safe and it turned out well!

If you don't mind me asking, what would you do differently given this experience? Or, have you taken any steps to secure your home or valuables in the future? I ask because we all learn from our experiences and maybe we can all learn something from this incident.

Thanks

What are you referring to? You saw the pics, I didn't make it up. It's all true & happened just as I said. I've posted here & on the Swamp Rat & Scrap Yard forum daily for years, and I am well known by many, and my credibility and integrity are well established and can be vouched for by a lot of people.

I'm still processing this info...I've only had 5 hours of sleep since last night. Dad wants better doors where glass can't be broken to gain access. He wants bars on the windows - Mom doesn't. I want to add more security lighting to the back of the house and cut down any overgrown vegetation where a trespasser could hide. I'm going to make sure guns aren't in plain view & easily accessible, & look into putting gun locks on the guns so anything in the house couldn't be used against us. Things like that. Still deciding what needs to be done...

& look into putting gun locks on the guns so anything in the house couldn't be used against us.

Check out the various types of gun locks.
The most commonly sold type can be picked with a slim knife blade or screwdriver(I won't detail how), and that goes for the pricier brands as well.
Could you, or someone you know, build a really sturdy locked box of some sort? Might be far cheaper than any safe, and combined with gun locks(and camoflauging the box's location), would give pretty good security.

Don't take the troll bait Andy. ;)

My house is 'armed' much like yours. I have easily accessible firearms throughout the house and many knives throughout... That is the stuff I'm into... I'm just a gun and knife nut. ;):D

The 'trick' is to have arms easily accessible but is contrasted by the need to have them secure enough to where they can't be turned on you and your family in an incident such as yours.

I don't know the answer to this. Gun locks are too slow and cumbersome, converting firearms into expensive hammers. Some of the safe 'boxes' for handguns allow for fairly quick access, but long guns are far superior for home protection and more difficult to secure.

I'm unaware of any perfect solution... maybe some of the hogs will share some good ideas here and help us all out.

Very cool story Andy! Thank God you and your family are alright and, except for being violated, everything is okay. Both you and your dad showed a tremendous amount of discipline by not plugging that moron full of holes. I think the majority of people would have wasted the turd.

I gotta add that the burglar showed a lot of cajones too. I can't believe he was so nonchalant with two loaded weapons pointed at him. WOW! I haven't pointed a gun at many people, but I had a guy crap in his pants when he got caught in the middle of a confined space entry.

1st.... Glad you and yours are ok
2nd... Should have shot the prick.

The first time he took a step toward me he be bleeding on the ground with atleast 2 holes in him.

It "never" goes down like that? Yes, you're right woodfox... he took the time to write a very detailed story, broke numerous windows and door handles and took the time to post all of this to impress some people on a forum. Nice 3rd post.

Really?

How many times have you met Andy??

Why are you questioning the veracity of his story??

What is YOUR direct experience related to a situation like this?

hey andy, just wanted to follow up real quick, i have worked in a prison now for 30 years with the coolness of this dude, he has done time before, i will be willing to bet on that, you done everything that you could do, and done everybit of it correctly, if you would have shot or killed the guy with him not offering resistance. you could have been charged with a crime.
i have trouble with people saying that they would have killed him, because if we go around saying that we would kill people for this and that, then we would be in prison instead of being at home with our families.
unless you have actually killed someone and know the art well, then you cannot say, i would kill that person, because until you are faced with the situation, you do not acutally know what you would do.

and locks, safes, burglar alarms only makes it interesting and keeps an honest man out.

the dog loose in the house has become a known deterrent and the will go somewhere that does not have the dog, sometimes the little ankle biters are the best, unless you have an attack trained belgian malanois or something similar.

and we do live in a world that has gone to hell in a handbasket.

kudos to you, your dad and mom for calling 911, keep your head up and live everyday to the fullest...

another note,

as far as the cat that is second guessing you, please ignore him, that is the best thing for someone like that...
