You paid someone to do yours? Do you think it was helpful?
Gosh It's nice to see someone else working on their dreams too. I actually quit my job to do this for my fiance while he works, and sometimes I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. But I won't stop working on this!
The release went to a tad over 600 media outlets, and that's way more than I could have even thought of. I'm not entirely sure if it was helpful or not though, but when talking to the marketing consultant at iUniverse, she said that often the releases don't get alot of attention; they just get too many. If you have any local connections, that's a good thing. Having gone to the University of Windsor ended up being my in with The Lance, although they heard about the book due to the press release. If I'd thought of them initially though, I probably could have gotten to this point without the extra cash spent. It probably would have been more helpful to have more books on hand for the money instead. Ah well, hindsight is 20/20 and all that jazz.

Definitely explore all avenues locally though, radio, newspaper, whoever will listen.
And yes, don't stop working on it! Success will come if enough persistence is put into it; I have a friend named Jeff, who has been following his dreams of jazz flute for well over a decade now. He ignored all the naysayers (and there were a number along the way), and is now gaining more success with each passing month. And even when he had no money, he had the satisfaction that comes from following one's dreams, and that's something a price cannot be put on.
