I had a great day on the water, guess how many fish I caught GAW

Gonna say 2 fish this time around.

A small pike I brought home for a pan fry back In 1981, the year my folks bought me my first Schrade 34OT.

And you caught it on a classic Red Devil! I still have a few of those in different sizes in my tackle box. OH

LOL! :D I was thinking about this just today, reading through the thread Jim :D In Yorkshire we say 'water-licked', pronounced 'watter-licked'! :D At least you're an honest fisherman my friend, great pic

Interesting tool! I paint one inch marks onto my rod so that I can quick measure my fish (mostly trout) and release. I like the honest vs dishonest scales! You see a lot of stuff like that at craft shows.

It is a shame to kill (harvest) the really large trout from streams since they are the breeding population if the fishery supports their egg laying. I don't need fish meat enough to kill them, especially the native or stream grown trout.

Don't care one way or the other regarding stocked hatchery raised trout. They are unlikely to reproduce anyway.

Jack, that was an Eppinger Red Devil spoon.

Thanks for the info Wolfy

That's a good idea :) Those knives were big novelty gifts back in the 60's and 70's. I never had one myself, and it was only when I came across one a few years back that I realised the 'Dishonest Inches' were actually centimetres! :D I had remembered it as 'Cheatin' Inches', which is what I have always called centimetres :D ;)

I'm fine with keeping one or two for the frying pan.
But, I am strictly a Catch n Release fisherman myself... unless I injure one.
But those two Browns, there's no way they were released... at least I hope not.
Pretty much the way I feel. You're right about the two big browns.... no way they were released as they were damaged. The eyes are milky looking.

Jim, you're a better man than I am. As much as I enjoy fishing, I would not count a day where I caught nothing as a great day on the water. If I only caught one, then yes, a successful day. But to me, a zip, nada is a strikeout, and I wouldn't be happy with it. Maybe the beauty of your area would change that, but maybe not.

Thanks for the info Wolfy

If I remember right, the blade on those were aluminum. Weren't they? They didn't rust, and bent really easy. Still, fascinating.

I was looking for a straight answer John.:(
Not sure how much more straight forward my answer could have been?

Let's try this...
I only fish with a fly rod
I only use flies with that fly rod
Those flies could be dries fished on top or nymphs fished below surface
I do not fish with a spinning rod, or lures, or live bait any more... ever!!!
99.9% all of the fishing I do is for trout, only trout, and nothing but trout.
That's why I call myself a Fly Fishing, Catch and Release, Trout Snob. It's what I am.

Henry Beige Henry Beige you are the winner! meako meako , always go with your first answero_O Because if you had you would’ve won today’s knife. I struck out again:confused::confused: My buddy says I’m a terrible fisherman, but I’m blaming it on the heat wave that hit the Pacific NW and the drastic temperature change shut them down. I fished for over 5 hours today and had one bite. I talked to several people that were in the same boat, not literally, and didn’t catch a thing.

Some great photos of fish and it’s making me a bit jealous. While any day on the water is a good day, I do like to catch fish:(. I’d rather catch 20 crappie than 1 salmon any day of the week. Today’s venture was targeting rainbows. I usually do well and end up catching a half dozen native Chinook around 6 inches long that get tossed back.

So in honor of my failure, I’ll keep the second knife until eventually I catch some fish and one of you will get to be the recipient. Again, no more entries and you’ll just keep your numbers.

I did see one big fish cruising the water around the boat. There are tiger Muskie in that lake, but I really can’t identify it....

That's pretty big for a Golden. :cool::thumbsup:

I am strictly a fly fishing trout snob. ;)

I have seen a trip report from some guys who were fishing in Miter Basin (all the lakes are above 11,000') and they were catching some pretty big goldens. They did not provide any length or weight numbers, but from the pictures some of the fish were over 18", some well over 18". I was impressed. I told an avid fisherman that I know and he went there a couple years ago but timed it wrong relative to the ice out and he could see the big goldens but they weren't biting. Too bad the forum that hosted the pictures no longer seems to be around or I would give you the links.

Thanks, Jim. I am surprised that more people didn’t pick zero. The clue was in the title. I have spent many days out on the water with a six-pack of Hamm’s, a couple of cigars and a line in the water, and called it a great day even with no fish to show for it. You will notice that Barrett made the same pick, but chose not to enter. He has adapted well to life in Minnesota, where no one is surprised when the Vikings and the Twins go home after the first round of the playoffs.
