Sometimes fishing isn’t about the catching. I got a stretch of water I love to fish that’s about a hour from the house. The water is so clear you can see the dinosaur prints in the river bed. The hills on either side lined with cedar and oaks. It reminds me of the water in the Texas hill country. A place I called home for 15 years.

I got this on my last trip out there, it was my first if it’s kind on the fly. It was 100 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Waded about three miles when I spotted it and thought why not. Catching a channel on a glass fly rod isn’t like catching one on a stiff bait cast rod. It doubled my 4wt over and it was a fun fight. It got several rolls and runs in.

Not sure how much more straight forward my answer could have been?

Let's try this...
I only fish with a fly rod
I only use flies with that fly rod
Those flies could be dries fished on top or nymphs fished below surface
I do not fish with a spinning rod, or lures, or live bait any more... ever!!!
99.9% all of the fishing I do is for trout, only trout, and nothing but trout.
That's why I call myself a Fly Fishing, Catch and Release, Trout Snob. It's what I am.
;)
But you're probably too young to have read Trout Fishing in America by Richard Brautigan, a hippie favorite from the 1960s and 1970s, right?

I'm fine with keeping one or two for the frying pan.
But, I am strictly a Catch n Release fisherman myself... unless I injure one.
But those two Browns, there's no way they were released... at least I hope not.

Pretty much the way I feel. You're right about the two big browns.... no way they were released as they were damaged. The eyes are milky looking.
I suspect you are correct. That particular section of the creek is classified "catch and release". My nephew Davey might have misled me.

We use hippies for bait....a bloke I know reckons he was talking to this old fisho at the The Great Southern Hotel in Eden who got a 17ft White Pointer trolling with a Swedish yoga teacher in a batik dyed bikini...

I'd say 11. This is what left of my fishing gears (booms and Mitchells are in the garage).

The hookless lure is a souvenir of fishing parties with my Dad in lake Massawipi in 1967, when we visited my big sister, catching more pikes than in the rest of my life. I had used it previously in Savoie lakes, with little or no effect. It's been more than 20 years since I fished for the last time, things have changed a lot!

Thanks, Jim. I am surprised that more people didn’t pick zero. The clue was in the title. I have spent many days out on the water with a six-pack of Hamm’s, a couple of cigars and a line in the water, and called it a great day even with no fish to show for it. You will notice that Barrett made the same pick, but chose not to enter. He has adapted well to life in Minnesota, where no one is surprised when the Vikings and the Twins go home after the first round of the playoffs.
Zero is not a good day fishing unless all you're doing is cruising around in a boat entertaining the family. My brother averages 8-10 trout per hour fishing for an entire year. Yeah, he's a fishing machine. We're talking thousands of trout caught and released.

The true measure of a good day is that you had fun.

I believe I have visited that particular stretch of the River.

It’s southwest of Fort Worth. The river is more known for these than anything. The hiking is awesome so are the camp site. Thankfully not many that go there know the pools hold some good fish.

I think I know where that place is :)
When we first got married we moved to Keene Texas. I studied nursing at Hill College in Cleburne.
My new wife and I went a few times there to check the dinosaurs prints and sit in the cool water.
What’s the name of the place ? After 25 years we can’t remember
