I hate American tantos

I think its fantasy silliness, and I don't quite understand why you are changing the subject of somebody else's thread.

I'm with Marcinek. 'The hell is that abomination supposed to be?

Those that do not like Americanized Tantos have obviously never been exposed to the fathers of this genre

First time I've heard a man complain about another man not giving him crabs. :)

LOL - yup, I guess I walked right into that one.

And I forgot to mention that the S&W was a tanto, 3/16"+ thick blade, useless for almost anything but pounding through kindling & rope.

it can be verry usefull in a fighting knife, but lets be honest we dont fight ninjas everyday..

That was not my intention. Since the OP's subject was about the hatred for the American tanto, I didn't think he'd mind if I posted the design of a different take on the tanto -- I was curious what he and others thought about it.

Seriously. I can't stand how squared off and boxy looking the tip is. I love the traditional tanto but I hate the Americanized version. Is anyone with me for this?

People still buy Bowies I guess that means they are looking for sandbars to stage fights.

I suppose this isn't really an American Tanto shape, but thought I'd mention this here -- it's the newest design by Gil & Wesley Hibben; a radical tanto type of blade. (Only available for pre-order.)

What do you guys think of this?

Jac

It is a fantasy piece that is not going to get much love from most

Gil is awesome but his designs are primarily meant for Mass production and target a different part of the knife buying segment out there

Great pieces Joe.

I consider Phill's to be traditional in shape as well as the Knight.

The Lum and Martin are Americanized versions but the RJ a little less so, IMO.

Is that RJ a Wasabi? Been trying to track one of those down forever but as far as I can tell he hasnt made one since the early-mid 2000's.

I don't care for them at all, and will never own one.

I do like the looks of some if they're done in a Japanese style.
