I like a snark in a short skirt and a looong jacket!

I might need that. A guy down the street had a few big trees fall over and let us take the wood away. It's mostly pine and maple but the logs average about a foot thick boy 5-6 feet long. About twice as much as pictured below.

why not just pick up some ripstop and add it to the existing top?

:( Cause I hate the plasticy sound of rip stop in the wind and the rain. I was looking at some canvas tarps. If I remember correctly (I need to find it) I found a 10x12 canvas for $75...

treated canvas weighs a ton.
OTOH, if you're going to treat it with the rustoleum stuff anyway, get 8 yards of 56-60" wide lightweight (5-6 oz) canvas and sew one up (or have someone sew it for you) coffee stain it, and treat it.

My sister has a heavy duty sewing machine. It can't do leather but canvas it can. We checked the instruction booklet to double check.

Not sure what SMG is, but I'll google it.

Can someone help me double check I have my math done correctly. 5 oz canvas means it weighs in a 5 oz per sq yard. If the canvas tarp I need is 8 foot long, by 5 foot on either side then it will be 80 sq foot. That makes it 26.6 sq yds. For the sake of simplicity I'll say 30 sq yards cause I'll need to add flaps to the front and back as well. So, 30sq yds * 5oz would be 150 oz, divide that by the 16 oz/lb and I get a total tarp weight of just under 9 and a half pounds.

Did I calculate that right?!

I usually go pretty simple. I mix up some Kosher salt, cracked black pepper, cumin, dry mustard, brown sugar, cayenne pepper / chili powder, fresh garlic, and onion powder.

If you can find some Dillo Dust, it's actually pretty similar and I find it to be awesome for brisket. The McCormick BBQ Rubs work well, too.

I might try something like that next time. I'm using honey and maple syrup (along with various dry spices) on this one. Might seem weird but I had a filet mignon marinated with it and it tasted amazing so.

I used to smoke brisket quite a bit a few years back. About 12 hours for a 15 pounder, something like that.

btw, THIS is what I do when I'm bored and drinking... Damn math problems.

For brisket I do a liberal amount of kosher salt, then I add white or pink peppercorns, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary, and lemon pepper. Then I smoke it low and slow. The longer and lower the better. ONCE for the Bears play off, we smoked a brisket for 24 hours in the parking lot for a tailgate party. There were 6 of us taking shifts making sure it never went out.
