Its hard to not greet that first thing in the morning... Its just sitting there looking up at ya!

g'morning Heads

Caught up on snark, time to get ready for work.

I dunno if you all are aware Alton Brown (one of my absolute favorite "chef-type" guys) has a new podcast. It's the cooking version of the Knife Journal Podcast. Although every episode he has a different guest. It's awesome!

He's from the Atlanta area (I think) and could be at Blade. I took this pic of him at Blade 2007.

Recently rekindled my interest in WWII history so I was looking for documentaries on netflix and I found one about Operation Catapult. I'd never heard of it before but it's pretty interesting. Basically in 1940 after France surrendered to Germany (violating an agreement they had with Britain) Churchill was worried Germany would seize the French naval fleet so he asked the French to hand over the ships to Britain or take them to other ports so the Germans wouldn't get them. Eventually Britain attacked the French fleet to make sure the Germans wouldn't get the ships and killed 1200 French sailors in the process.

Just read over the wiki page; that's pretty cool, don't recall ever hearing about that before. Guess its not something either side is really proud of. Used to love reading about WW1 & 2 history, especially the naval battles (I think ever since I heard that damn soliloquy from that old geezer in the movie Jaws lol). Had a book on the Hood vs. Bismarck when I was a kid that I must've leafed thru a hundred times. Think I'll look up that doc on Netflix next time I have some time to kill...

Since you should not plant some things in the same place in consecutive years (tomatoes being one of them), I have 4 separate garden areas and rotate my veggies each year. I always put the sweet peppers where the tomatoes are so I have separation from the hot peppers

Same here. Rotation and companion planting is fascinating stuff.

For a 5 gallon batch, I use 2 gallons of berry juice, 3 gallons of distilled water and 12 - 14 pounds of sugar (amount depends on berry sweetness and hydrometer reading after mixing and desired finish, sweet vs dry).

It will just depend on how many I wind up with and how many the birds eat... last year I wasn't really paying attention and they got decimated. These are pretty small (probably wild?) but they have good flavor and sweetness; of course that also means they don't all ripen at the same time so basically I'm picking a baggie full every day and freezing 'em... We'll see how it goes. I'm going to be gone all weekend so with my luck they'll all come in while we're in Atlanta and the birds will get 'em all :grumpy:

I have a ton of recipes, and I may very well make a gallon or even smaller batch if need be. I just prefer to make 5 gallons+ at a time, because it's basically the same amount of work for way more wine :p

So I figured 9.25 hours is a good estimate. Then I decided to pull it up on my phone GPS. It says 7.25 hours. LOL my phone knows me so well!

Timing is everything. You do not want to be pulling into ATL between 4-6PM, or the last ten miles will take two hours. Of course being from Chicago I'm sure you understand all that. Your blade is ground, BTW ;)

Im going to need a bottle from the both of you so i can decide which recipe is better :D

:D

Incidentally, MorningWood camo is an actual product. It reminds me a lot of the Brit DPM pattern until you look a bit closer. I used to have one of their t-shirts...

He is from the Atlanta area, he still lives there even though his job is in New York, in 2001 when the WTC came down he went and got his pilot's license. He is on "that" level LOL! I figured he might be at blade but I doubt I would get to meet him. Just the way my luck works.

The rush hour in Atlanta is for real only 2 hours?! Holy crap! In Chicago rush hour starts at noon and goes through MOST of the 1900 hour.

and WHOOOOO!

God the day is going by slow.

I am just getting up... 24 hours till I leave! Just have enough time to watch Le Mans!

Granite is a real silver tongued devil.
I too was lured by promises of fast rides in his Fiero, malts shared with a single straw... Followed by words of encouragement as he tought me how to roll up a pack of smokes in the sleeve of my white t-shirt...
But alas, I found myself (as so many others have as well) hung over and possibly drugged....dropped of in the middle of a hobo camp on the outskirts of town.

that's freaking hilarious, Jonny.. :D

If you're ever down in the states in Kansas City, Missouri the national WWI museum is located there. Pretty good stuff there.
