I always make my knives very thin at the edge, because I sit around sharpening all day long....LOL For somebody like you that doesn't have much sharpening equipment I'd think you'd want it thicker, interesting....

Maybe he just trusts the steel and his technique enough.
And all you really need is a good strop really to maintain an edge unless it chips or has knats.
Buttttt that's just my experience from sharpening by hand for 13 years :p

Well if it's a hard user with a thin edge it will likely get chips and rolls. Just my experience from, oh, wait, never mind. I have no experience...:(

That's what I said but I have seen chopping comps with 17> degree angles without chipping and rolling with D2/O1/1095/1084 steel.
If he trusts it I'll trust it.
That's just how us blade owners are LOL.
Plus if I make it to his liking I might have a future customer brewing :p

HA!
Alrighty bud I'll put a 17 degree grind on it, when will you send that muthertrucker to me?
Maybe I'll have to regrind my ESEE 3/BK2/BK9 to a 17 degrees after a some use.
I think you'll be surprised with how pretty and sharp the edge will be! :p

Thanks bud, ill send it next time im at the post. And im sure it will be a very pretty edge :)

Yea 5160 is no weak steel, and i know how i personally use them. It will be fine. I have a great strop. Its my only "sharpener" but has done me justice for the last year and a half. Might take a while but it works.

Just my experience form, oh, wait, never mind. I have no experience...:(

LMAO!!! HAHAHAHAHA.... Kid thats the best line you have said yet!!!!

I have chipped and rolled edges, i have done STUPID things with knives too... But im practicing daily, cutting, slicing, chopping.... More practice equals better skill... Or so they say :D

5160 is an excellent steel, great retention.
BY THE WAY, do you have any compounds to go with your strop?
And boy I'll tell you w'hhhhat you'll be able to see around corners on that edge :p LOL

Um, Thanks, I guess... :D

And yes, practice makes perfect. I chop with my BK9 almost every day, and I like to think I'm good with it, at least I'm good enough to get third place in a chopping contest with 12 Beckerheads that weigh 2X has much as me....:)

In other news: I got both knives, both are awesome! The Tackett is better than new, and he also sent along another knife, without scales! It'll be a fun project! Tobiisom can sure make some kydex!

Well, time to hit the sack. Last of the 16 hr days for a while I hope. Im down to one eye, a sore back and a bad attitude. Erik (1066VIC) got here about 6:30. I buttered him up with meatloaf and beer and put his ass to work, he is stitching the second to last M-18 sheath a as I type this now. All of the work is done except for a few odds and ends I will get up early and take care of before the drive to Atlanta. I havnt even counted, but it looks like I will have a full table. Around 50 or 60 pieces.

This is my living room coffee table. The last two M18 sheaths are finishing up now.

Good night all, im beat.
You have every right to be beat, Tiberius. That is an unbelievably awesome table full of steel and leather. Can't even imagine the amount of man hours piled onto that coffee table. Good luck at BLADE.

You sure as hell wouldn't be buying them to get laid with. Crocs are not poon cruising shoes.
Thank you. I needed a sinus flush.
If it doesn't kill them it'll at least flush them out. And some of your bones.

I remember this time I went to a Mongolian BBQ and I asked for medium heat because I didn't know how hot it would be. I'm not sure if the guy misheard me, accidentally put too much in, or if Mongolians are just F**King insane and have iron guts because I was sweating through the meal and I couldn't finish it because of the fire in my mouth. I spent a good amount of the next day feeling like I was passing lava. And most people think I'm crazy when it comes to spicy food.
Yeah, never the discussion about the exit wounds. It's not where the heat goes in, IMO, that makes me judicious with my use of it.

Also I reread that thread I'm tempted to correct like a mofo but I do not like drama or causing arguments over the internet. Most of those faulty grinds when modified look excellent yet the things that people are saying are ludicrous.
I tried to point this out in a non-inflammatory manner, but I really don't think that some of them can hear what they sound like to a less childish listener: churlish and petty and somewhat self-centered. I mean that in a nice way, of course.

Its a 3 stage strop, It came loaded with chromium oxide and diamond paste, of course those are bout worn off now, but one day ill clean it off and reload it.

Really if i can stop buying knives and gear.... Stop going out to use said knives and gear.... Ill eventually get me a KME.

Grats bud!
Take pictures!
And I got my Beckers and ESEE way better than factory, I'm so surprised how awesome that thing is.
LOL guys, I forgot to tell you.

I was showing my coworkers my edge on the SOG Trident (ex)Tanto and was shaving hair on my arm, LITTLE did I know I actually cut a very thin slice of skin off and it created a curl like it would on a feather stick LOL!

They said it's the sharpest knife they have ever seen. And it's duller than my Beckers/ESEE haha.

Good! 1 pound of those compounds are like 8 bucks and last forever when used properly.

And BOOM! Shots fired! LOL

Wow! good job! I'm sending you a PM....

Hey, Woody, could you please do a Video of the RD 4 when he's done with it? Thanks!

I can get sharp knives sharp, hair splitting sharp as a matter of fact! Hey, Auraria, have you ever tried splitting hairs with one of your edges? That would be a good test.

I can tree top hairs on my arm and I can get curls on the hair with my edges that are below 20 degrees.
I was going to ask the drunkard to make a video of him unboxing it and having fun with it the way he knows how! :D
