It was pretty decent stuff at one time. It may interest you to know that at least one major (and highly-respected) knife steel vendor won't even carry 5160 anymore, because the mills can't/won't verify the chemical composition. Since it's mostly used for cheap springs, the specs have gotten so wide and lax that what they're calling 5160 these days could be almost anything, ranging from quite good to basically junk. Just sayin'....
Good to know, I might be a young child at 19 however I've been around steel since 6 which surprised me that they won't verify it.
I remember my grandfather use to rave about it haha.
I have heard relatively good things about recent blades in 5160 being spotty but I didn't think it was THAT bad, that's pretty sad actually.
