It was pretty decent stuff at one time. It may interest you to know that at least one major (and highly-respected) knife steel vendor won't even carry 5160 anymore, because the mills can't/won't verify the chemical composition. Since it's mostly used for cheap springs, the specs have gotten so wide and lax that what they're calling 5160 these days could be almost anything, ranging from quite good to basically junk. Just sayin'....

Good to know, I might be a young child at 19 however I've been around steel since 6 which surprised me that they won't verify it.
I remember my grandfather use to rave about it haha.
I have heard relatively good things about recent blades in 5160 being spotty but I didn't think it was THAT bad, that's pretty sad actually.

I like it. I wouldn't call it "lazy", but rather "innovative". There's many a time I need to remove a sheath w/o having to strip out my belt (I wear dual fixed blades EDC). Currently have sheaths I made using boot knife clips, but they allow the sheath to come loose too easily sometimes.

Trying to figure out what kind of snaps those are. It looks like the male piece attaches with a phillips screw? What are they??

Yup, back side are 1/4" binding and 8/32"x3/8" philips head and 24 line snaps. Same stuff I use when attaching anything to a kydex sheath.

Hey Mountain Mist-
I just read your post over on the "New BK16 grind issue?" thread.

I'm dissapointed to say the least...
First you insult a Beckerhead. Then you continue to badmouth Ka-bar with your personal opinions.
If you really have an issue with Ka-bar( the same company that has sent you how many free knives?), take it up with the company. Don't come on a subforum of one of Ka-bars best designers and badmouth the company. That's low class. Period.
Your 13. I get it. But listen, when I was 13 I still had enough respect not to bad mouth somebody who treats me right.
If you don't like Becker knives then that's fine. If you prefer Esee's that's great.
BUT...posting your distaste with Ka-bar made BK&T knives in the BK&T subforum, while subsequently praising Esee....
Take it to a different venue. I take offense.

Jonny not calling you out but I would take that to a PM level rather than the snark thread.
I own an ESEE 3 and of course Beckers so I'm not getting involved with that but if something he said you took offense to or you didn't agree with I'd take that on the 1 on 1 level rather this forum of shenanigans and snarking.

Thanks Auraria.
Had he posted this in a PM to me, I would have PM'd my response back.
He chose to post that publicly. So I chose to post my response publicly as well.
And I did it here in the snark thread as to not take attention away from the OP like MM did.
I appreciate your concern.

Thanks Auraria.

Do what you need to bud, just don't do it publicly unless needed.
That is very.....zen. Should I refer to you as Sensei?

I have decided to stop reading that thread. I was starting to feel the same way about many of the posts. Biting the hand that feeds.....not especially cool.

granite, there is no steel, you just need to see the knife :p.
Also, luckily that thread was revived by mods and he got the issue fixed.

Again. Thanks for your concern.
I would not have posted it publicly had I thought it was not needed.
I think about what I really want to say before I post it.

You're right, it's very unfortunate. The good news is, several other high-quality "carbon" steels with tight tolerances like Starrett O1, Aldo's 1084, Latrobe 52100 etc. are still widely available. 1095CV is a little trickier for guys like me to get their hands on... I think those dang Ka-Bar people buy it all up to make Beckers :D

Heavens no! James or JT will do just fine ;)

Just checking bud lol, hopefully that is resolved between you two or things will be settled.
I do however know Wood has gotten his issues fixed and tomorrow hopefully he'll be able to pick up his blade which is excellent and I'm glad things worked out for him.

You say like it's a problem ! LOL
When I start doing the removal technique and 'attempting' making my blades I'll look into those outlets.
Thanks for the advice James.

I just noticed something, most other knife forums I have been apart of or went to I haven't really found as cool of people.
Really guys I'm glad we have a special little Becker hidey whole with a bunch of great people.
I swear this isn't the alcohol talking :p

I didn't actually know you could change fonts!

Now to try and not be overly annoying.

Probably not too much of a challenge since my old man eyes can hardly see the difference in most of the options.

Hey now, I'm a pretty non-annoying guy, and you know what they say 'the older the eyes the farther they see'.
Plus I would never use Comic Sans, it is the worst font to be created haha.

I like that sheath 710, love the way to remove it from the belt.

James, i agree on 5160, from what i have read in the past i dont go out of my way to pick it when choosing a knife these days, but id call it a tough steel on the knives i have used it on, admittedly just Ontario's. decent for bashing on, shock resistant and all but as far as edge retention goes, assuming all are HT'd properly, it wouldnt be my top pick, or 2nd, 3rd.... 52100 is still my choice of steel. 3V is great stuff as well, but the price difference is enough to scare the wallet LOL... Just wish it was easier to find 52100 in thicker stocks around .32-.35".

3V is great, I was looking at bars of it to make a bush knife in the future and I laughed myself back to 1084/D2 for my future projects haha.
.35? Boy that is thick lol.

Yep, i bit my tongue and left that thread for good.

 At least you think before you say, and did it in a more polite way than i would have. Everyone knows i love me some other brands (but not Esee with their horrible ergos :p) Yet i never bad mouth Ka-bar or beckers, and never say a knife i have that cost more is "better". I purposely never even compare them side by side so it doesnt look like thats what im doing to anyone. I love Ka-bar, especially the Beckers. Respect is not something taught to most children these days it seems.

And before someone starts saying something about Esee, i have been trough the Izula, which felt like a cheaper BK14, the esee3,4,5, and 6 none of them worked for me, for the price of the knife the ergos are BAD.... IMO, everyone likes different things blah blah blah.... but still i wont go to the Esee board and start saying Beckers are better either, even though its what i FEEL, its just rude.

Yea 3V is some awesome stuff. I have a couple customs from CrimsonFalcon and they are great knives.... Speaking of that.... For all you that take interest in my competition chopper... Crimson does a damned fine job making a knife very similar that performs excellently, and his prices are amazing. You want a custom that chops like a bat out of hell without completely depleting your bank account??? id give the man a shout.

That's just it! Everybody feels like they have to bite their tongues!
The fact MM prefers Esee over Becker had no influence on that post whatsoever. I like some Esee's too.
It's the simple fact that he insults members and down graded and talked down BK&T knives here in the BK&T subforum.
But yet he still posts here. Still enters contests here....Still gets free BK&T knives from the very company that he apparently thinks little of.
It just struck a nerve and I wanted him and everyone else here to know how I feel.

I for one appreciate the quality to value that I receive in every purchase of a BK&T knife.
And I ESPECIALLY appreciate the knives I have won in contests compliments of Ka-bar!

If I EVER had a problem with their quality I would call or email and talk to Ka-bar personally to let them know how I felt. I definitely wouldn't air my displeasure on one of their designers hosted forums, while at the same time touting one of their competitors!

But....he's young. He gets a free pass. Right?....WRONG!! Too many of those passes have been handed out already.
Rant over.

What do ya'll think of the lazy way of removing my sheath?

I dig it!

So like any man worth his salt I have several projects that have been collecting dust for a few years. One of these projects is a Norinco Hawk 982 shotgun, which is basically a knockoff of a Remington 870. The action is pretty stiff and I hadn't touched the gun in a long while so I decided to try and tackle it once again. I was cleaning it out again and was checking for rough spots that could be causing the issue and I cut myself on the inside of the receiver, which had all kinds of grime you would expect to find in a shotgun receiver. Dang cut is right on the very tip of my right index finger so even typing is a bit uncomfortable. But I guess I found a spot that could stand to be smoothed out.
