I like Big Snarks and I cannot lie

Read WW's post again and the subsequent one about how it's open to anyone who posts in snark regularly enough. He knows who we are. Stop being such post horus....good lord, I step out of the house for an hour and you guys blather through 3 pages! It's not a contest of inanity......or post counts. "No can defend!" There actually used to be some damn snark in the snark thread. There better start being some seriously good BS-ing in here, or I'll start skimming, by (insert your chosen deity here)! Blah, blah, blah, blade angle, blah blah blah has it's own sub on BF. Use it. @dynamicmoves: are you happy with your blades' performance? If so (I assume this to be true), I would posit that it does not matter what the angle is.

Man I wish I could think of some good snark. You guys (and you know who you are) need to put a little more quality and a LOT less quantity into your efforts.....to make up for guys like me.

I've been skimming the snark thread more more than a year now. Content has dropped.

I just like to have conversations and learn about people seeing as I'm a noob to the forums.
I hope I'm not overbearing.

I've heard the same thing. When are you getting in James? We just pulled in to Atlanta - man that was a long drive.

Be safe Todd. Looking forward to seeing you guys on Friday.
Mine wasn't even as long as yours but it felt like it took forever! I had the cruise set at 75(~115) till Nashville and when I got out of there I said F This and set it at 90(~150)

Got a 1.25 x 10.75 1/8'' thick piece of O1 to grind on. Any tips or ideas?

Jeremy
BELT GRINDER! Do not do it by hand! You can but my god it is a pain in both the posterior and superior!

I wouldn't say you are... Although you might wanna see if you can get in the chat room.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

I will ditto your ditto.

Speaking of knifemaking, trade, How goes the blacksmithery?

I will ditto your dittoing of Trade!

5 pages of snark while I was working whew.

Most of my edges are angled differently. My 0121 is set at 16-17 degrees, the 0350 is at 18, the 0700 is at 20, and the Spartan is at 20. I like the finer edges for wood work / slicing and the thicker edges for utility. The only one out of them all that I have actually reprofiled was the Spartan. The others I have just stropped to touch them up. I would however reprofile them on a certain machine should I get the chance to improve the edges. My bk2 is at 20 degrees and I have sharpened that after some pretty heavy usage :D It still blows my mind how crazy sharp 1095crovan gets.

I agree with your findings and angles, my pocket knives I now keep at 17 degrees, gotta do some reprofiling soon LOL.

I did murder that log and you are the one that had the skinny end mm as is only fair it went by size.

We should be in Atlanta in about an hour. Left at about 10:30 this morning and only stopped to eat once. I'll try to post pics of everything from the show as I can but I have no idea how well that's gonna work.

See y'all there.....

Or Not!:p

In Atlanta now. Sitting in my cousins basement drinking beer watching Blazing Saddles. Time to finallly relax, we got everything done and priced ready to go.

Eric, finally completed the polishing. Yes, he cleaned every knife. Murph polished all the sheaths, I got it all priced.

And you better take pictures dangit! :P

What do ya'll think of the lazy way of removing my sheath?

Looks great my only gripe and don't take this too heart I feel as if the belt loop is too large and can cause the blade to 'sag' or have the handle push away from the body.
It looks impeccable and I could be wrong however.
I really like that look.
However I do love the way to remove the sheath.
Sorry about misreading the question, silly russian import vodka.

5160 is an excellent steel, great retention.

It was pretty decent stuff at one time. It may interest you to know that at least one major (and highly-respected) knife steel vendor won't even carry 5160 anymore, because the mills can't/won't verify the chemical composition. Since it's mostly used for cheap springs, the specs have gotten so wide and lax that what they're calling 5160 these days could be almost anything, ranging from quite good to basically junk. Just sayin'....

Yeah, but the class of people in here is so much better.

We got started late and rolled in a little after 5PM. Somehow got lucky and there was hardly any traffic. Staying at the Wyndham Hotel... nice place but there's no fridge in the room. WTF?

Grind away everything that doesn't look like a knife.

I like it. I wouldn't call it "lazy", but rather "innovative". There's many a time I need to remove a sheath w/o having to strip out my belt (I wear dual fixed blades EDC). Currently have sheaths I made using boot knife clips, but they allow the sheath to come loose too easily sometimes.

Trying to figure out what kind of snaps those are. It looks like the male piece attaches with a phillips screw? What are they??

Hey Mountain Mist-
I just read your post over on the "New BK16 grind issue?" thread.

So tell me, Aussie, why do all of your Becker's have perfect coating, and not a scratch on them?

I don't really want to say this, but the ground is shrinking under KA-BAR's feet. Out of the box, the edges aren't usually perfect, grinds are off a lot, coating makes them drag a lot, and the scales are usually off, and the sheaths kinda suck. Also, the screws come loose some times if you don't tighten them, and the handles are kinda slick..... Ethan is the only thing going for them as far as I'm concerned.

If you're not going strip the coating, sharpen, tighten, and maybe replace the sheath/scales, then you have a knife that doesn't really work well.

Street price for a BK16 is about $70 with shipping. Street price for an ESEE 4 is about $90 with shipping..... Ever had a complaint with Rowen? I've never heard one.

I'm dissapointed to say the least...
First you insult a Beckerhead. Then you continue to badmouth Ka-bar with your personal opinions.
If you really have an issue with Ka-bar( the same company that has sent you how many free knives?), take it up with the company. Don't come on a subforum of one of Ka-bars best designers and badmouth the company. That's low class. Period.
Your 13. I get it. But listen, when I was 13 I still had enough respect not to bad mouth somebody who treats me right.
If you don't like Becker knives then that's fine. If you prefer Esee's that's great.
BUT...posting your distaste with Ka-bar made BK&T knives in the BK&T subforum, while subsequently praising Esee....
Take it to a different venue. I take offense.
