We call that sticking your head in the sand.

I don't get it. Almost $200 for a 440C blade made in China?

For that price, I can get similar blades with better steel made by the custom guys here on the forum. If I wanted to drop that coin I could also be looking at Bark River, and similar very high quality makers all done domestically with top notch QC and warrantee. Is there a draw to these "Down Under" knives that I'm not aware of?

A lot of experienced knifemakers have very positive opinions on 440C and would also say-its not only about grade of steel, but it's about heat treatment what plays key role on final edge and quality..440C was and is used by SOLINGEN GERMANY,,,,,PUMA,,,,,,and those knifes are not cheap, comes often with price tags double of DUK.Gil Hibben himself use this steel and his knives top 2k prices (of course, you pay for famous name, but surely very high quality knife too). on top, guys who used and abused for example The Outback claim the knife is able to withstand extremely hard use, without dulling edge.

Seriously, I love 440c, but....

For a Chinese production knife in 440c I would go with one of the many Boker options out there for half price, like the Hunter Killer, a great knife for under $100; and trust they'd have comparable if not better fit and finish...

For a production knife in about the same high end price range as a Down Under, I would take a Puma (made in Spain), or an Anglesey or an EnTrek (both made in USA), or a Boker Vollintegral (made in Germany)...

So basically, with all the "other" options available, if I want a 440c knife, $150+ chinese priduction "Down Under Knives" doesn't even make a blip on my radar, not even a little bit...

Craytab, most of the USA production knifes are made in Asia.... Cold Steel, SOG,etc.Australia is next door to Asia, I don't see how quality can be even possibly affected by country of origin....quality depends on how tight is QC Quality Control.I don't know anything about ban on discussions about non-bladeforum members, such as this company. each model of their knives they ever produced was up to date astonishing piece of art apart of troubled sheaths on The Outback. I just wanted fans of this mark to share their enjoyment from Down Under products, that's all

"each model of their knives they ever produced was up to date astonishing piece of art" - Okaaay......!

From what I read both here and else where, QC is lacking.

Besides, if one perceives these knives as being ''astonishing art," one needs to get out more. Its an affront in regards to 99% of the knives in the custom forum here.

The Urban Dictionary:

Shill

A person engaged in covert advertising. The shill attempts to spread buzz by personally endorsing the product in public forums with the pretense of sincerity, when in fact he is being paid for his services.

Who are you shilling for?

Ignore the n00b, he's just here to shill.

Craytab - this is very common practice-! Nearly every company is praising themselves and their products and pissing on all competition in every possible way....capitalism is defined and based on false advertisement and disinformations.

If it's very common...tell us 3 companies in the knife industry that do it. Please cite examples and proof that each involves falsehoods.

Otherwise, again, you are just making stuff up.

Agreed, makers on bladeforums provide better steel, heat treat, customer service and design for the same price.

No comparison. But hey, he can spend his money how ever he wants.

Even if he could which he can't, his definition of capitalism is utterly wrong. He made up his own definition of capitalism, there is no getting around that.

All I know is it looks like flea market garbage I mean the names scream garbage. Red rock raptor lmao

Down under knives is a proven dishonest and shady company. they won't even tell you were their knives are made. Why would you even believe they are using 440c? And why would you trust the heat treat? Many basic concepts inculding these seem to elude you. Don't you love it how shills never work out on this forum?

This sums it up:

Chinese made garbage by way of unscrupulous folks in Finland. Unlicensed copies of John Bowring's work. Undeniable high quality you say? Prove it. Please cite some sources. I'd rather knapp a petrified dinosaur turd.

So what you are saying is that this is the product of Chinese Capitalism? Well, lets hope it stays there.

I think Boker is also making excellent knives for the price,-Arbolito El Gigante with stag handle, large Bowie beautifully crafted with leather sheath, just under 150 bucks, smaller blades under 100 but very solid looking and with functional designs.....I think that's a great choice too.

Many claims here DUK is not genuine business because they do not reveal country of their factory.... I can only disagree with this nonsense. Its up to them entirely to reveal any information about their factory/factories etc.(yet most of guys here know where their factory is located - claiming China:) How contradicting is this!? :) give me a proof it's made in China ....Cold Steel for instance, famous USA company making their knives in Thaiwan.....and have a lot of fans on bladeforums.(don't get me wrong I like many of their stuff and think some of it is very competitive and good, solid quality).I think the real issue/criticism of most US based guys here is one and simple.Once company (in this case DUK) it's not USA owned company-its Chinese garbage,,,,once it's under ownership of US and made in very same Asian country: it's still "American" quality LOL,LOL,LOL:)Important is product and it's quality, not where it's made.Comments like these makes me laugh and only revealing little or rather no knowledge and how close minded these guys are....

Complete BS. You are making yourself look stupid. The old "you hate China argument". How original. Facts are what they are. You deny facts and it makes you the same as this crap company.

Yes, "important is product". These knives made in "asia" for a European company from stolen designs that are claimed to be Australian get bad reviews on the "important is product" scale. You have no argument here.

This guy obviously beat the crap out of it and listen his words about knife - that's a statement that only adding to my opinion that quality of their heat treatment is excellent and blade is tough as blade can be.!!! He also revealed weak point of knife and that is clear and visible from DUK picture itself: mounting of pommel.... I think DUK should do this product easily without silly flaw like this and shall do full flat or just same thickness of tang all the way to the pommel mounting in my opinion....

For all critics:
great video, this guy explained it pure and simply - worth to watch, he nailed it.....

You know, I could care less about DUK since I can see they lack quality. But I do want to discuss your view of USA made knives. Many American companies have lines that are made in the USA, Japan and Taiwan. Benchmade and Spyderco come to mind. Not sure that they have a China made line, but I am sure if they did it would be their bottom tier. I am sure the quality is decent. Because american QC is involved. As for Cold Steel, it is no secret that they have stuff made in China and the price of those chinese made pieces reflects were they are being made. Unlike DUK. However, make no mistake, the Hattori made line of CS has always been their best stuff. Now they are moving to very high quality steels like 3V and CTS-XHP. China made is always 440 and you guess as to what letter comes after it.
