Here's my submission! I was so looking forward to this John!

My idea is to make a super comfy bushcraft knife (very smooth rounded handle, from every position), and also light so it can be brought along on long hikes. A squared area on the spine can give good control as well as being able to strike a firesteel. The front of the knife can be rounded to be easier on batons, should the need to baton wood arise. Acute point for wood working. The handle can be hollowed out in order to create a lighter package.

Questions:
1. How's the winner chosen? Poll or you choose the winner? Either way is fine by me :)
2. Would it be possible for the winner to put the handle on and make the sheath - kinda turning it into a collaboration knife?

Thanks for the contest and best of luck to everyone submitting a design :thumbup:

1. Winner is chosen by a poll
2. I see no problem with that.
3. Don`t forget to email me your permission to use the design.

I call it the JK Boattail Drop-Point. The handle is a smooth "boattail" shape with thumb scallops and ring-finger scallops (I find that the ring-finger scallop gives a fantastic point of reference on knife handles as well as being generally comfortable). There would be a lanyard tube (I'm not particularly fond of lanyards myself but hey, some people are) and two solid pins, and liners to take up any slack due to humid or arid conditions causing the scales to expand or contract.

The blade would be made of 1/8" steel with a nice high convex grind so that the knife is sturdy but still sharp. I decided to go ahead and play around with putting a thumb ramp on it, although I'm not particularly fond of them normally. The spine would be sharp-edged for using a firesteel but the thumb ramp would be rounded like the Knatchet spine is for comfort. I lined up the point of the blade with the centerline of the knife for maximum efficiency in thrusting and drilling, and the thumb ramp gives you the leverage to apply pressure along the entire length of the blade as well as the tip without worrying about your hand slipping off of the "grown-up handle" (a Scandinavian term, as I understand it :P)

I'll play but only if I can be forgiven for using MS Paint :p.

Essentially it is a Fixed Blade Sodbuster. Something I'd love to have but have yet to find anything close.

Blade - 1" (to 1.12")H X 4"L X 1/8". Full height flat grind. Slight drop point. Forward belly.
Handle - Similar in size and shape to a large Sodbuster. 4.5"L, rounded slabs with no palm swell.
Pins - I'll let you decide on pin size and location.

Thanks,

Okay this is my entry. I've had to fight back the urge to draw my usual crazy macho style knives and find my femanine side because I figured it was time that Mrs Pit had a custom or two.
Even though I had this design in mind for my wife I think with a different colour handle it would make a great light weight EDC knife for hiking etc. The blade at 4" is still plenty large enough for most Bushcraft tasks and the thin stock should make it a favourite around camp for preparing food stuff !

Thanks for the chance John....Gonna go skip through the garden and pick some flowers now !!!:D

Just realised my handle slabs should be shown coming slightly further up the blade in the top view....doh !

here's my entry john, email sent.
a small utility fixed blade to ride unoticed on the belt or in the pocket, i like the look of a lot of the slipjoint blades you see around. But you don't often see small blades like that on a fixed blade with enough handle for my four fingers (i have medium-large hands). enough to open your mail, dress a bird or cut a coolant hose off a jeep radiator.
