Why, In a place so completely filled with pictures of unused pocket jewelry that the servers are full, are so many people concerned about factory edges being razor sharp or whats the best way to get a knife " screaming hair popping" sharp. I mean seriously, most of you are only going to use the knife to post pics and cut yourself with.

What gives? Whats the fascination? Why do people that have never used a knife, buy the latest wizbang sharpening equip? Is it just for the gram! I mean these people will spend a K on a sharpener then complain about the price of the knives they will never use anyway.

Someone explain this to me.

Yes I am being a bit tongue in cheek ;)....
( for you yutes that means im kidding)

For people just getting into it I can see being upset about a poor factory edge. But once you have a couple of knives I do think everyone should invest in a stone or sharpening system. Not only will it allow you to thin the edge you can also try out different grit finishes that work with different steels.

You aren’t wrong, but it takes all types. If they are enjoying the hobby their way, good for them.

Like I said in the other thread I’d rather receive a dull knife, than one with a recurve it shouldn’t have, a rounded tip, or burnt edge.

I’m going to sharpen it, refine it, and use it anyway. Not all my knives get used, but they’ve all been tested and are all ready to go.

I use whatever knife I want to.

I am guilty! But, for months now I have sold the safe queens off and just kept the users. I had the same sort of epiphany months ago!!!

I'll go you one better...I have knives I've sharpened (and scratched) and never carry. Go figure.

(I've sold a few, for good deals, but several remain.)
now your just screwing with me!

Doesn’t everyone buy a $800.00 CRK or equivalent to open a bag of chips or remove a stray thread ???? I know I do, and with that it has to be hair popping sharp or else it could catch a snag and slip. That’s where you get cut.
Do you really think rational thinking applies to this community?

Didn't take me too long to realise the signal to noise ratio here is wacked... None the less I joined and will participate in the treads that interest me. If you catch me posting a picture of a knife with a cat, a coffee, a beer, some bourbon, a tree, a flower, a car, a watch, some food, a dog, another knife, some rocks, a trail, ect... I will have truely become a knife knut.

I’m just gonna go out on a limb and say the disease will hit you too. Welcome!
