I must not be a true Knife Knut because I am a bit confused...

I use knives and I sharpen knives as needed. Of course, I'm not a very heavy regular user and any heavy use for me tends to be activity-dependent as opposed to a matter of general EDC needs.

Where I go off the rails is in my "EDC rotation" exploding into a giant pile of knives. Some of it is vanity and reckless abandon in shopping for knives. However, a few years of participation in the EDC thread here and eventually Instagram has absolutely exacerbated the effect.

That (and the proliferation of super steels within the pile) divides use such that my sharpening needs have plummeted. It is what it is, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't fun. :)

When I joined this forum I had a handful of well-used moderately priced knives. Now I have a tote full of knives (including a couple fancy ones) and some have barely been used. It's hard for me to maintain my "outsider" status at this point and I blame all of you. Still when I see "EDC" knives that have clearly never been carried it puzzles me. I guess I'm just a hypocritical hillbilly.

And again this is probably your fault.

All my knives just like all my guns are well used they are tools to me but I want quality and prefer US made.
That said I enjoy looking at good looking girls, cars, motorcycles and knives and have owned a few of each never to my regret.

I still like to post pictures of my knives on various knife forums, including knives I have never used, and will never use. Does that make me deserving of derision and ridicule?
Probably yes. Lord knows I would never do such a thing. 🤥

"What is the sound of one blade closing?"
Kodo Sawaki! That man really did have life all figured out.

There seems to be a particular kind of "I use my knives and anyone who doesn't is stupid" knife guy. I'm not one of those.

I have knives that I carry and use, some expensive some not. I also have knives that I don't use. I have them just because I think they're cool. I don't apologize for that.

I Like knives. I don't think they have to all have a practical purpose just to earn a place in my collection. Lets face it, I am not a "high speed low drag operator" and I have no practical use for combat/tactical/fighting knives, but I think they are cool.

Some seemed to have missed the humor and the actual question.

Why worry about the edge on a knife that will never be used?

Nothing was said about quality or quantity. Nothing was said about not using your knives. No-one .said that you have to use them. No one actually cares if you do or not.

This is a freaking hobby. Kettleman Kettleman - why do you need so many sebenzas while a single one will be sufficient for you to use for your entire life and maybe even beyond?
First one is a need, the second and beyond is a want. Some people want something so bad they need it, or simply can't tell the difference between the two anymore

In fact, has anyone ever seen him and mitchnola mitchnola in the same room at the same time...?
Haha, “agent provocateur” may need to be my new banner! There’s always a need for a few of us to force the hoverer above to make some unscheduled landings!

As far as the topic, only a year ago I thought a $500 knife was absurd till I bought one. 3 mos later I thought using a $500 knife was just stupid. 6 mos later I sold most of my $200 knives to buy more $500 knives. Now I carry just about everything and will use everything. I currently have a LG Talos prototype in my pocket. In full disclosure I do have 2 or 3 that are older and very rare and I have received them in mint condition and I feel some responsibility to keep them that way.

I could care less what anyone does with their knives but I do recognize that anyone that differs from me or my opinions is probably genetically defective! 😎

I suspect that in in a forum like this most members have way more knives than they need to/ want to / can use.

Otherwise, we would all have 2, 3 knives and see them as pure tools, and not be interested in them as a hobby.
Knife collecting is a hobby and folks on here like doing it, really no different from coin collecting or gun collecting. I learned a while back not to get mad at people for doing things they want to do just because I didn't agree with it, if you don't want to have a knife collection, then don't have one. Get your knife, use it up, if it breaks get another and let these fine folks collect;
Makes them happy
