Interesting conversation had with the wife tonight... over the years she has been curtailing my habits much as women tends to do. I understand she is trying to look after my health as she wants me around as long as possible. Tonight I got the rant about smoking lol. Apparently tobacco products are no longer welcome in our house (haha). I'm wondering when I will have to draw the line. We have been married now for 5 years and have known each other for 14 years. The old saying "happy wife, happy life" is most infinitely true. Like most men I just find it extreamly difficult giving up the things that help me relax. I'm all about compromise but when you get your smoke for free there is nothing that can replace it. The only other thing I can think of is I may just go visit an old friend of mine tomorrow and return with an extreamly large green bag of "substitute" and see what kind of reaction I get lol.
Tell her it will be a lot easier to quit if she picks up massage therapy. There can be fringe benefits to doing such things with one's spouse too. Probably not a bad idea to quit smoking, since it is pretty awful for one's health, but I can understand needing relaxation. It's much easier if you have something to replace it.
At least you are having a discussion with your spouse. I like Crimson's idea. I've been trying to meditate, but it's difficult to relax enough to do it, plus there's the whole thing of "don't just do something, sit there!" that's tough to wrap your head around if you're the kind of person (like me) to whom that seems a selfish and non-pruductive use of your time. I feel better when I do it, though. Just beat myself up when I don't; not healthy either. As for the "substitute"......maybe you won't care what your wife has to say.Interesting conversation had with the wife tonight... over the years she has been curtailing my habits much as women tends to do. thoughts and prayers are with you WW.
Anyone ever grow their own vegetables? I got a book and have been reading it and man, there's so much i don't know that i'm getting stressed and discouraged before i've even started!
Growing vegetables is supposed to make you happy, not stressed! It's not hard, especially if you're not totally vested in the outcome. And if you don't need them to survive. Zucchini and tomatoes. Easy and plentiful, just make sure you have friends that like zucchini and tomatoes. They tend to happen all at once, and in force. Peas and green beans aren't too hard either, and easier to freeze, IMO. It's still predicted to be in the single digits here, temp-wise. We won't even be thinking about gardening for at least another 6 weeks. Getting close to maple syrup season, though. Got half a mind......no, really. I think I only have half a mind. Maybe tap the couple of maples in my back 40 this year.Anyone ever grow their own vegetables?
