My hat Is off to your sanding patience, sir.

Can someone explain what the hell this topic is about? I am a newbie and this topic seems very popular, but I just don't get it???

Hey Marty, welcome.

This thread is kind of the catch-all thread for things not specifically Becker related. However in this sub-forum we tend to be fairly close-knit and we have developed friendships so we usually just want somewhere to BS with each other. This is where we do it.

Pull up a chair, grab a bourbon, pull up to the fire and sit a spell.

It might be easier to tell you what its NOT about :D

Basically this is the place where Beckerheads and aspiring Beckerheads hang out and chat about everything.... If you can think it we can harass you for it here. Just dont bring up trademarked holes and you'll do fine :D

This is the snark thread, snark means snide remark.... so we chat and joke here but also make fun of each other for doing so at times... So welcome, bring a thick skin and leave your boots at the door. :)

Started working on an etching mod to a 9 - will be posting full details later after I finish, BUT..... since it seems like every now and then someone asks about how tough is the coating on a BKx, I figured I'd pass on what I learned today. :D

Well, I'm here to tell you that it took 37 iterations with an 80W laser pumping out 100% power at 30% transit speed (really pretty slow when etching, the laser zaps the same area longer) to get through the coating of a new laser-etched BK9 when I did the right side.

When I did the left side (first), it took 56 passes, but the first 15 were at 80% power and 100% (fastest) speed. Then I started bumping up the power 5% at a time and slowing it down 10% at a time because it seemed like it was taking forever. :o

Well, off to an all-day (& night) swim meet. Younger daughter swimming 10-3, older one 3:30-9:45 . Tomorrow, too (but shorter and earlier). THIS is what parenting is all about. Need to pack lunches and dinners, plus something to do so I don't doze off and fall out of the bleachers. Probably make a LOT of paracord shtuff today. Ah, well. You fellers have yerselves fun. IBTL (I hope).

For those who are nerdy like me.

Still plenty of polishing, and I need to "work the guard to look like braid," but getting there... First replica that I have heard about of Tam's heron mark sword from Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time" series. 37" OAL, brass fittings (cause bronze is expensive), CPM 3V. The sword is supposed to have "nobby black leather" wrapping the handle, so I used a pebble backgrounder to provide the "nobbiness." Nobby actually means stylish, but I don't think that was the author's intent. It's also supposed to be made from virtually indestructible steel, so I figured 3V with Dan Keffeler's amazing protocols done by Peters comes about as close to legendary strength, especially considering the steels that would have been used in the days of swords. I'm looking forward to putting an edge on this and seeing what it can do.

Damnit Crimson! That thing is sexy !

Morning daizee. How's everyone doing? My head is a bit foggy right now, the result of a few too many beers last night.

Morning Gus, Morning Daizee, Gus hopefully at least you enjoyed last night. Get some coffee into you, and some gatorade. They actually make this little pouch called "revive" or something like that, it's a gel and it is actually pretty good for after this.

I slept last night with 4 pillows under my knees, 1 under my hips, and heating pads wrapped around both legs. It sucks getting old! Playing again on Tuesday with a newbie getting more people into the game. Then playing again on wednesday.
