.....they snap it open. My inspiration to start this thread came yesterday. I was showing someone my Griptilian when another gentleman walked up. Well I allowed him to hold it as well then THWACK!!!!! He snapped it open and I mean hard. Then asked me did you know it could do that???? I gave him a low level MHMMM!!! Then another THWACK!!!!! By this time my stop pin was screaming for mercy. I don’t want to tell some to stop doing that, but I think it is common courtesy to ask permission before rough housing someone’s personal belongings.
Feel free to share your experiences in similar situations.

Yes the knife can take it, and yes it bugs me when someone does that (same think happened to me at work last week!).

It's like dry firing a pistol in a gun store to feel the trigger. It sets people on edge.

Better to happen on a Benchmade than another company that doesn’t stock replacement parts. Someone did this to one of my PM2’s a couple times and I wasn’t super happy. Really hard wrist flick. Regardless, it’s pretty cringy.

“Did you know it could do that?” Like he just did a magic trick...

I never let somebody just hold my knives and whenever somebody asks for a knife my first question is "What for?" if it's anything other than cutting something that I'd cut myself I don't hand it over. Funny enough just yesterday there was a super opportunity for some cutting (a watermelon) and I happen to have my ZT 0055 with me, not a knife I'd hand somebody and not one that's really particularly good for watermelon cutting
:D

I don’t even flick my own knives open. I even try to avoid flicking knives with a flipper and KVT ball bearings hard. I know, I’m extremely picky.

When I turn around and the dude is shaving a section of spit covered pelt off'n his greezy frickin' arm.
Gross.
Just keep the knife Jethro.

I've seen sooooo many variations of this thread that I am beginning to think that one of the warnings which come with knives should be "loan at your own risk". If someone doesn't have a knife with them (or at least say something like "I left my knife on my desk"), why would you lend them yours?

It only takes a few times letting someone barrow your knife only for you to have to go and track it down after they say "Oh, I think I left it over there.."

Dude, thats a $500 dollar knife and you just left it on a box in the middle of the warehouse!!!

Its a bit awkward now when I tell people "no" when they can clearly see a clip in my pocket...but oh well..

I apologize for starting this thread, just thought it would be fun to discuss. I didn’t loan my knife to use, I just let someone look at it.

Whoa! I didn't mean to criticize you, I was just pointing out that this kind of thing happens so often it borders on epidemic. No offence intended.

Oh ok, my bad. I just thought it may have been discussed to the point that folks were tired of seeing it pop up. I didn’t check for previous discussions on this topic. Btw, I agree with your previous statement.
