I Say Goodbye...

Thanks Guys,
Usually a Drinking for me would involve some Grey Goose, or Stoli on the Rocks with some Sliced Lemon lol

Just imagine a long parade of supplicants... worshippers of infi and whiskey in flowing robes with arms outstretched following you across the heartland... the clicking of kydex the whooshing of half empty bottles of booze... speak to us Cobalt. Lead us to the promised land. And you take us to Jerry's house. There's a Monty Python movie there, I'm sure of it. :D

Cobalt!?! Excuse my ignorance.... Educate me please......

lol, it was in reference to Alias comment about a pilgrimage to my home. ;)

When it comes to scotch, I find it amazing how my taste goes through a cycle. When I want peat, Lagavullin and Talisker are what I go to, when I am in the mood for highland or speyside, there are tons to choose from and I have bought them all at one time or another, then when I want something special I head over to the Isle of Orkney and go for highland park. So many choices is why I love scotch.

Aaaaaah!....

Ironically, I'm the one who turned my best friend on to boiler makers (ya don't use your high end stuff for that, of course). He was operated for a double hernia. He drank boiler makers instead of taking pain meds.

As it turns out, he's a scotch, bourbon nut..... I tasted quite a few of each type at his house. He's continuously experimenting with different brands. Interesting hobby!

Lagavullin... another one of my favorites!

Yup, everyone should have a bottle of Lag 16. The complexity of the flavors in that one is mind blowing and I can honestly say that in 18 years of drinking it, it has not changed one bit, which is not true of others.

Totally agreed man--I have a Lag 16 ready and waiting in the rotation... the Laphroaig 10 is just about gone tonight. Cobalt, have you ever heard of Widow Jane Bourbon? I drained a couple bottles a few months ago... not your average bourbon--hell, better than your above average bourbon.

Never heard of it. I will have to find a bottle.

This was real good. We had it at a 30ish year reunion of Marines from 1st Bn 8th Mar back in May. I've been unable to find any more.

And here are some of my better bourbons. Being less than 1 1/2hrs away from all the bourbon distilleries in KY, makes me partial to Kentucky Bourbon.

Cobalt... Here is a link. It's a bourbon that starts its life in Kentucky, and is finished in Brooklyn with water from the Widow Jane quarry in upstate NY.

Being a New Yorker originally, I have family there--my sister sent a couple bottles along when my mother few out to visit. I couldn't find it anywhere in LA.

...to a bottle born in 2010 and finished in 2016. You were 27.
How the hell you lasted so long, I have no clue. I am grateful to have known and drunk you!
You will be missed :(

So, what was your most recent loss? Please share.

Man I've polished off 3-4 of the balvenie 21 port cask... Quite possibly my favorite scotch

Bourbon, for me, is just Booker's. It just tastes best to me, even over Pappy (though I'd still pick up a bottle if I could find it at a reasonable price). I don't find myself wanting or needing anything else when Booker's is on my shelf.

Scotches, however, are a different story - they are very mood-specific. I mostly favor cask strengths from Islay - Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Ardbeg...and when I can find it, Port Ellen is my special occasion drink. Talisker is another strong favorite. Generally speaking, I've lost my taste for Highland and I'm not fond of strong port or sherry finishes. There are some blends, though...Compass Box Hedonism and L'Orangerie are great dessert scotches. Johnnie Walker Green rounds out my list of always-on-the-shelf scotches.

Soooo many good scotches.

Hmm...I just got home from my shift this am. I think I need a small pour. It may be AM to you folks, but to me its dang near bedtime! :)

I will have to see if my local place carries it or can get it. I bet they have it. They have everything. I also recommend you guys try to get STRANAHANS Diamond Peak. I love this whiskey. If you have ever been in the desert on a morning right after a rain and smell the sage, this is what Diamond Peak tastes like. It is a pure single malt american barley whiskey, that is the most amazing american whiskey I have had.

Sounds interesting.
Guessing it will be kinda hard to get a hold of over here.. but you never know.

Great thread! I'm more of a Bourbon guy than a Scotch guy, but I can certainly relate to how you feel. I finished a bottle of Pappy 23 a couple months back ago and it was very sad to see it go, especially since it was my last bottle of 23. It's really not a sad thing though, it's a good thing, I spent some quality time with family and friends drinking from that bottle, and it doesn't get any better than that. Here are a few I have left in my collection; I have a lot of good quality time with friends and family coming up.
