I Say Goodbye...

No, I stocked up. I have 3 bottles. But I appreciate the heads up.

Trust me, I got a total of 5 bottles when I heard it was going away.

I bought a bottle of it around 7-8 years ago and I swear it was right around mid $50s for a bottle. Does that sound about right? I ask because the bottles I saw today were priced at $95 and I know I didn't pay anywhere near that last time.

Prices have been jumping lately. Lagavulin 12 year went from 106 to 135 overnight and cask strength Laphroaig jumped from 60 to 75. I'm bummed about the big jumps, but glad I picked up multiples of these when I did. I still think The Laphroaig is a bargain for as good as it is though. :)

yes. I use to get it for $59. Then it hit 70, then 90

Added: Another thing that really helped me out and really improved my enjoyment of scotch was learning to breathe through my nose and mouth together. The nose is much more sensitive than the tongue and adds greatly to the experience.

Great point. Just the past few years I've made a conscious effort to add nose time to scotch, whisky, wine, cigars, cooking ect. Now I try to smell everything before I cook it. It changes the whole experience. It didn't help that for many years I smoked a pack of Marlboro Reds day of, but also I consumed things very fast, and was probably on the third drink or done with my meal before I thought about smelling it. Now I'm that guy at the grocery store picking up apples and herbs and sniffing them or pausing after a toast to smell my drink.

HEre is another tasting tip for fine whiskeys. Swish the liquor gently around your mouth 1 second for every year of age it is and a minimum of 8 seconds and a max of about 20. You will get the full flavor and the after effect, which is just as good. Also when you first open a bottle lit it breath for about 20 minutes before you drink.
