I see a bunch of folks using personal tab option on paypal. IS it ok? cause FYI

I can understand your point there.. But apart from Charging for Insured Post with Tracking.. normally about $40USD Max.. what further money should you be charging? Why LOTS more money? especially if you are agreeing to no obligation or risk? Are you saying that if you post it in America to someone, and it gets lost in the mail that you will take responsibility and give them their money back? thats very decent of you :D

The extra money is solely because I'm worried I will have to deal with headaches, and cash is a better cure for headaches than aspirin. It's also to discourage anyone from asking me to ship internationally :D :p

If I ship in America, I ship insured, and if a package were to be lost, I would do everything I could to get USPS to cover the cost so I could refund the buyer their money.

Paypal is a giant ripoff
Agreed.

but many folks won't go through the hassle of mailing a money order, so we're pretty much stuck with it.
Money orders are next to impossible for international transactions. Us 'foreigners' are indeed pretty much stuck with Paypal.

I still hate paypal with a passion, though.
For more than one reason even ;)

I'd like to think that if so many people are fed up with them, an alternative can't be long in the waiting?

You don't want to get busted by Paypal, they will freeze your account and keep your money locked up for months. That's assuming you ever get it back. Furthermore, the are owned by eBay, one of the worse "let's scam our customers as much as possible" companies. Finally, Paypal is not that knife friendly either.

I suggest all of you do the best thing with regard to Paypal's stupid user policies: take your business elsewhere. Google Checkout is a great credit card processing service, it's cheaper than Paypal, and its knife friendly.
Only problem is, if you sell a knife on Ebay, Paypal sure as hell knows what kind of sale it was. Now, I think the only way you can make a payment for a sale of Ebay is through Paypal. They won't even allow the buyer to send you a money order. Ebay closed my auctions when I stated that I accept Money Orders.

LoL.. I think you just explained my original point quite well :p

Yea, ebay is anti guns and knives. I think I paid for something and had marked it Benchmade in comments or something and they froze his account and did an investigation. He had already sent the knife but was pissed ebay was messing with his account.

I know that paypal just lost a lot of funds:D:D

cause I withdrew it all:)

I never maintain a balance in Paypal - always withdraw within a week or two of getting any money. Not worth letting those crooks hang onto my money any longer than I have to.

I would suggest that you also move the money to an account that they do not have access to: If they have to refund money on one of your transactions, your money is not safe in the tied to bank account.
Just my .02

PS: Make sure you disable automatic overdraft protection on the tied to account, you might end up with a negative balance.

Good call JatMat - that's one of the reasons I usually wait a week or two, to make sure the person who bought whatever actually has it in hand, before I take my money out. But yeah, I like the idea of keeping the bank account used with paypal separate from the one I use to pay bills, so I don't get screwed over by them pulling money without getting my permission first.

Probably a good idea to bump this for the weekend.

Dont send me money from personal tab . Thanks

I had my account permanently closed because I was selling knives through Pay-pal. It states in the user agreement that quote " Pay-pal may not be used to send or receive payments for firearms, firearm parts or accessories, ammunition, weapons, or KNIVES" endquote. I had a personal phone call from one of their customer jack-boots, and they grilled me on the phone for 15 minutes and then continued the investigation via e-mail for three more days until they finally found my Blade Forum transactions, and shut my account down permanently. This E-bay offspring has jacked me around for several years on various " security issues ", as I would try to make a payment for a knife using my credit card and then they would block the transaction, until I made the payment with THEIR credit card........then everything would be fine. We should stop pumping money into a company that does not support us. Vote with your dollars......

They only dislike knives being sold and paid for on sites other than Ebay. Ebay has THOUSANDS of knives for sale and you can only use PP to pay for them. They only enforce when they are losing the Ebay fees.

again, just in case anyone missed it:

GunPal is an alternative to Payal, and they have no such prohibitions...

and I have no affiliation, but share a loathing for PayPal/eBay politics and antics.

Not quite accurate. It only applies to knives that would be illegal to sell in that locale.(ie. switchblades, double edged blades, etc. depending on local laws)

Acceptable Use of Paypal

You may not use the PayPal service for activities that:

violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation

relate to sales of (a) narcotics, steroids, certain controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety, (b) drug paraphernalia, (c) items that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity, (d) items that promote hate, violence, racial intolerance, or the financial exploitation of a crime, (e) items that are considered obscene, (f) items that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right of publicity or privacy or any other proprietary right under the laws of any jurisdiction, (g) certain sexually oriented materials or services, or (h) ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories, or (i) ,certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law

If anyone abroad works out a better option than Paypal let me know...PM or e-mail me.... PP don't just hit you on fees on receipt of funds but also give you a very low exchange rate when converting them from dollars to your own currency.

It is however cheaper than doing an international money transfer through your bank if the value of the fees is less than £25 sterling....about $42 US which is the amount the bank charge to move the funds if paying....if receiving the banks also charge a fee for receiving money...usually the same...

Western Union is also pretty expensive and hit you on the exchange rate as well....

They are the only options I know of for International deals....again if anyone knows a better system...please let me know.

Is this an american thing? no way that can happen to my bank in NZ. Paypal is not a bank. its a company. They have no legal authority to take any money from my bank account.. they have my account for Deposits only.. Anybody can deposit to a bank.. but only signees can withdraw.. They could try and suck money out of my VISA.. but then VISA would be forced to refund to me when I dispute it.
