I wanted to hate Yeller Derlin, but....

Last year i had to sell most of my knife collection but one of the few i kept was my Case yellow sodbuster junior mostly because it was my first Case but also because it had developed blade play which i corrected with a ball pein hammer thus marking the cover but i did not care because it is a user and i like it.
I recently became able to start collecting again so far i have 2 med stockman one with punch,i am waitng for mini trapper, pen knife and a slimline trapper inbound.
I was also suprised to note that in the collection pictures i did not see a CaseXX 32024 1/2 like the one i was lucky enough to buy recently although i imagine they are not the most sought after model, i never expected to be able to buy a vintage Case here in the UK, anyhoo that together with a yellow CV "Nut" i am expecting tomorrow brings my "Custard" collection up to eight plus three bone peanuts. Aint life grand...

Other than being easy to see on the ground, does anyone know why Case choose yellow instead of black for example?

I've seen a lot of pics of Case Sodbuster Jr.s on the forum lately. That's 'cause they are awesomesauce.

A couple years back I got some gift cards for my anniversary at work. About the only good knives they had at the place were Soddy Jr.s, so I got two to use up the card. Having one in pocket and one to put away and finding it to be such a great knife satiated my knife urges for quite a while. It's the only knife I can say that about. One has since been given to a friend who told me how surprised HE was about what a great work knife it was.

I had seen people comment on how the knife couldn't be as sturdy as some knives are being plastic with no bolsters. I found out different. They both did come with some blade play and I (incorrectly) tightened them up with a ball peen hammer. One ended up a little too tight. I put the blade in a vise and with the handle at 90 degrees I twisted it back and forth to loosen things up.

That delrin handle twisted and turned and distorted and snapped right back. The blade didn't loosen up much at all and I stopped before I broke the blade. The stuff is tough and the knife is tough.

I like yaller now too.

LOL

Yeah, he's too yeller to show himself..... :D

:D

My only smooth yellow delrin knives are both Rough Riders. ...and a leaf shaped trapper jack.

So whatta ya think about that TJ? I've seen em in listings a few times and it sorta catches my eye and sorta doesn't. But, I am curious as to how well that "eye" opener works? I have similar on my SAK Trekker and it works fine. Not fast. More like a Case Russlock speed of opening, but it can be handy at times. I wonder how well it would ride in a pocket. Mostly though. I'm just curious as to does it actually work well as intended?

Just laughing to myself:p
You just can't fight not having a yellow slabbed knife.

Amos, it definitely takes some practice. Because the handle is slim, it wants to twist in your hand when you try to open one-handed with the thumbhole, but yeah, it works.

Thanks. I was curious. The Russlock took a little practice too and it ain't for fast, just one handed. May have to try one of those RRs out just to say I did. Or not. ;)
