Idaho Made

Wow, I can't believe this. I have been looking at Chris Reeve knives for six months and debating. Once I finally decide on the few I want I see this. I definitely don't want one with that on it. It honestly looks tacky . But that's just my opinion. I have the option not to buy any (which I won't) but, it's a shame after all the greatness I've heard of in these knives.

Also I would like to say that I am very patriotic to my country and my state.(North Carolina) I have the American flag and the state flag in my yard. I don't however have stickers plastered all over my car or shirts with flags or state logos filling my closet. There is a place for everything. I wouldn't even like made in U.S.A. on these knives. This just isn't the place for that engraving in my opinion. If it was on the inside of the knives I wouldn't mind. Just my $0.02

All that greatness is still there.

If you wanted a knife with great quality of manufacture that hasn't changed.

If you wanted a knife that functions smoothly and locks up with solid assurance time after time, that hasn't changed.

If you wanted a knife backed by an outstanding warranty and superior customer service, that hasn't changed.

If you wanted a knife that didn't say "Idaho Made" on it then yes, that has changed.

That's a lot of "greatness" to give up because of something you can't see when it's in your pocket or in your hand???

Why spoil all that greatness with an ugly stamp which is completely out of place and out of character with the rest of the knife.

Where is the pic of the Camphor inlaid sebenza????... Like I said, please take a pic of it outside. I really would like to see this one in the sun to see how the wood looks..

Thanks

I will see what I can do.....

Thanks... you can post it here, in the pics section, or just send me an email. I really like the simplicity with the camphor and wouldn't mind seeing it before I decide to sell something to purchase it. I am one that does not like the stamp either.. but I think I wouldn't mind setting that aside to get the camphor.

Thanks.

Which part of the "greatness" did they spoil, the quality materials and manufacture, smooth and solid lockup, great warranty or was it the superior customer service. Which of those did adding an "Idaho Made" stamp spoil??

Aesthetics obviously.

Like I said before. I threw in my order anyways. I've got a year wait for this knife and I'm betting on the fact I get a non-stamped knife.

I agree that all the functional greatness is still there. I was hoping to get all the greatness with the aesthetics. Maybe I'm a weirdo, but I just won't carry a knife that isn't aesthetically pleasing to me. Aesthetics and functionality go hand in hand in my book when it comes to high end knives. That's jus t my book though. To each his own.

That is why the only spyderco I own is a native.. lol.

The knife was perfect either with the MM stamp or no stamp but not with the silly Idaho Made stamp.

It had all the qualities you mentioned plus a classy look. Now it still has all the qualities but looks like it was stamped in a shop that throws out $5 dollar knives. That stamp has to go before I will buy another current model sebenza.

My opinion of course........

There is always the secondary market. I still see many like new/unused or excellent condition Sebenzas around that were made before the stamping. I have also seen some, especially the Classic inlays, at a few dealers. Bottom line if you still want a Sebenza-but no Idaho Made stamp-you can get one.

I must admit, I am very glad that I got my 2 sebenzas this year before this whole IM thing started. I don't like it at all either.

The "IDAHO MADE" text looks horrible and practically ruins an otherwise beautiful knife.
It looks both cheap and tacky.
It's a terrible decision and should be changed ASAP.

I can't even say it without thinking "I da' ho maid".

I'd say the "quality materials and manufacture". To me it's like putting a big gouge or two right across the blade and handle. But that's just me. I'm sure it adds value to the knife for some people. I look at it like some of the custom handle designs. Gotta say, some of them look just awful to me, and some look good. I'd never buy some of the custom designs. I doubt I'd warm up to the mongo version Idaho Made in this lifetime.

I'm glad that the Left Hand 21 I bought doesn't say Idaho on it. It almost says nothing at all, just a logo on the handle and that's it. This understated approach adds to the overall beauty of the blade and is best, IMO.

Thanks for the thread.

Maybe the stamp could be on the inside of the scale.
There are a lot of good comments here and I also want to express my opinion.
Please consider this as feedback.

While I know what my knife is made of and where (even when) it was made, I don't need that info on it.
I like the clean lines and that's part of why I buy it.
If it was "only" a tool, I'd need no embelishments or damascus blades.

Thank you for reading this.

PS: The fact that the stamp is discussed by so many people only tells me, how much we care. :)

I have been pondering a new Large Sebenza 21 for a few weeks now. But then I came across this thread and remembered the Idaho Made engraving. I'm pretty disappointed, b/c I have seen Sebenzas in the exchange with the engraving, and just did not like it. I loved the clean sterile look, but wanted to my own engraving on it with a personal motto. But with "Idaho Made" stamped on it too, that's just too much text.

Looks like I'll go the used route and send it in to get engraved, or just not get one at all now.
