Idaho Made

What's with all the trolls and semantic debaters on this thread?

We are talking about a MADE IN IDAHO stamp, on a knife.

This has got to be the most ridiculous thread of all time as far as replies go. I think I'll come back to the CRK forum in a couple days, once people start discussing things that actually matter, like how to hide new CRK knives from spouses.

People seem to have lost perspective on what a knife is. It's a tool and Chris Reeve makes of the best "tools" money can buy, at least in the production knife arena. That aspect doesn't change because of a marking on the knife.

No, it doesn't. But manufacturers discount their customers' tastes at their peril. Based on this poll, there seems little doubt that the Idaho Made stamp will cost CRK some sales . . . at least at the outset. Will the market adjust eventually? Probably. As you said, the quality hasn't changed just because Chris decided to imprint 9 letters on the handle. Still, it might have made sense for Chris to announce that he was going add "Idaho Made" to his knives and solicited feedback on its placement before he stamped the handles. An ounce of prevention . . . ;)

I agree they are still fantastic tools, but if you don't think people are spending $400+ on these knives (especially with the fancy inlays) with aesthetics in mind then that's an oversight. It's not the only factor, but it definitely is one.

I agree 100% that one aspect of a knife purchase is or can be appearance (how many units with graphics are sold compared to regular models I don't know) and those Sebenza's are still going to be great looking products even with the stamping, it's just that IMHO folks are getting way too nitpicky about minor issues. Case in point, I recall a post several months back were someone wasn't happy with the SOUND the Sebenza makes when it locks open. Come on, the SOUND!!

You can't please everyone all the time but every once in a while a person needs to step back and get a grip on what's important and what's not. For everything Mr. Reeve puts into these knives I just find the gripes about the markings somewhat petty. Of course it will all blow over in time and people who appreciate a well made blade will still be buying CRK products this time next year, least that's the way I se it, YMMV.

I, personally, have been looking forward to getting one of the new 2010 annual Spalted Maple Sebenza's, and a lot my desire for that particular model is the "Idaho Made" Stamp on the back. I like it, and I like Chris Reeve Knives as a company, and am not going to complain about their choices. Don't worry though, I'm sure that with all the negative comments in this thread, that the "Idaho Made" Stamp won't last very long. It's a shame really. I hope that they don't decide to make any more changes. I would hate for there to be a riot in Idaho, it's such a pretty state!

I threw my order in over the weekend.. It'll probably take a year so it will be interesting to see what I get. Stamp, different stamp, or no stamp...

Im with a lot of people on this one.My first sebenza is going to be pre stamped. The search is on before the prices go up

Hmmm, the "birth date" for my custom order large Sebbie I posted about here is October 27, 2010, and it doesn't have the new stamp on the lock side. Buck naked and beautiful.

Apparently from this point forward, ALL folding knives Chris Reeve produced will have "Idaho Made" engraved on the lock side of the frame. Originally they were planning on introducing this to mark the change to the new blade steel S35VN, however as they recently ran out of Ti slabs, all new folding knives as of a month ago will have the new engraving.

Also, if anyone has placed an order for a knife, such as a damascus or ivory inlay, should expect to see the engraving on their knife. This will apply even if the order was placed prior to the change over date.

One of the best news I have heard so far.. Hope this applies to all CRKs

Well I am one of the guys who posted that I would never buy a Sebenza with the IM stamp on it because I did not like the look of it.

I decided I was too quick to judge and actually bought one to check it out for myself. I purchased a large LE with Camphor inlay.

I WISH I HAD STUCK TO MY GUNS.

The stamp looks hideous, it is orientated the wrong way and quite frankly looks cheap. The Classic 2000 was much better IMO.

The new stamp really is a poor job and takes away from the rest of the knife. I won't be buying anymore knives with this stamp on it.

Sorry about what you are going through. :(:(

A car is also a tool, but would you like it if your sports car of choice came with a painted "Made in X" down the hood?

Just being a tool doesn't mean it can't also look decent.

(BTW I'm not militantly anti-Idaho stamp. I just don't see the logic in tool=can't look good.)

How many of these threads do we need? This is exactly the same, so I merged them.

Well after spending my money to find out for myself I think I have a right to make my own statement through my own thread.

The fact that another thread is opened should only serve to drive the point home about the silly stamp.

Thanks for nothing :rolleyes::thumbdn:

is there any word on if the stamping has been put on hold for the time being? there's been some reports of recently-birthed knives that don't have the stamps, but it could be possible that they're just old slabs that slipped in.

I'm not a fan of this new stamp but I just saw the work Barry H does and I'm not worried. He's got some sweet sebbie mods that would do away with that stamp in style.
