Idaho Made

i don't complain much, but i can see in no way how that adds anything to the knife:barf:......no last quarter 2010 or newer sebbies for me....when(if) you sell out of these slabs, lets go back to the one that no one complained about

I like this new marking personally but I guess I'm a minority.

Since I bought my first sebenza I've always thought they should have something like "USA" or "American made" inscribed to show their products origin and some national pride.

I suppose that's great for people who are actually from the U.S.........

I like a mark that shows a where a knife was manufactured, early CR knives had
"Made in South Africa" stamps and I'd love to own one of those...

I personally wish they moved the new marks to a more discrete location so its not so "In your face."

Idaho seceded from the USA while I wasn't paying attention? :p

It seems to me "Idaho Made" shows national pride, but also state pride.

I am all for national pride, but state pride? Meh

Slap a big ole USA or American Made on there, it doesn't bother me.

That said, I may have to push up my large insingo purchase, that's gonna hurt.

I understand your point but I personally have less of an issue as to where an item is from as long as it's of high quality. I don't need to have wording on the knife, or what ever, to tell me it's origins. I wouldn't like a "made in Scotland" engraving on my knives either for that matter.

I own a good few OPKs and the "made in USA" engraving on those is subtle enough to be swallowed, but I would still rather it just had the CR logo. A logo that already stands for all those things you in the U.S. hold so dearly.

Well, things have been taken a little too seriously in my opinion...I wish to explain myself before Mr. Reeve takes offense and I get kicked out of the forum.
First, I don't like the new stamping - personal opinion I hope I am entitled to even being a forum newbie; hence I'm not buying a CRK with that stamping, but I already own a Startac, a Starbenza is on its way and I do hope Wilson Tactical is going to customize a large Sebenza too - this because I find CRKs very well executed and the stamping on the WT meets my taste.
Second, I didn't know but I'm pleased to know that Mr. Reeve doesn't outsource anything - really good on him.
Third, I didn't want to make fun of his decision with the laugh thread and I apologize if, English not being my first language, I couldn't convey that: I just think that "made in Idaho" is here to stay and so why not, better go past the shock laughing about it - but no disrespect was ever intended.
I also apologize about not placing the thread in the "Wine and cheese" section - honestly my main focus has always been the CRK section so I never thought about a different collocation.
Having said that, I think it's for me time to move on and stop posting in this thread and in the original "stamping" thread - I like the technical and user feedback I can receive from the forum but honestly, really have a life going on and I find kind of a waste of time to get entangled in misunderstandings over something that it's not precisely life or death matter.

I'm not sure what the huge deal is here....most other knifemakers have some kind of mark to show that a knife is theirs. Especially the larger companies. Why can't this be part of what makes a CRK knife a CRK knife? The "Classic" Sebenza has an engraving in almost the same spot and a big "MM" on it as well. Why isn't that considered ugly? And how many of you are actually bothered by it? I appreciate the performance of the knife, rather than what the handle engraving says.......at least its still made in the USA.

Got to say that's a little cringe inducing to me.

The smaller version doesn't induce a cringe, but "Idaho Made" doesn't really resonate with me. I like the sterile look and the simple CR logo. Didn't care much for the MM thing either, but at least it looked better.

The styles I really dislike are like the Benchmade specials where they write a book on the blade.

I have to agree with Lunde about typography (post 111). Spyderco manages to write quite a bit on their knives without creating a cluttered look.

There was a large amount of people that have stated they did not like the engraving and only bought a Classic style when it became the 21 without the markings.

I am actually surprised this got such a huge response! A simple marking gets so much attention compared to when the Regular was discontinued.

Either way, wont stop me from buying a CRK even though I do think it can be improved, but that is my opinion. I would put it prefereably in the handle, or else close to the clip as attached.

Lunde made a great post about typography (post 111)

This completely flies in the face of the minimalistic look the Sebenza exceeds at.

I'm the type of person who doesn't like the MM on the Classic or the lockbar ridges on the regular....I even prefer silver hardware over blue!

I'm sorry to say I will never buy a CRK with that engraving. Move it to inside the Ti handles and maybe I'll consider.

Yes, I do like the Classic - lettering. Moreso than the "clean" Sebenzas! I also wouldn`t mind the "Idaho Made" on a knife, but I agree that it doesn`t look good on that Sebenza there. For some reason it doesn`t look as good as on the Startec Umnumzaans.

This must be Photoshopped. There is no way Chris Reeve would do this to us.

Wait... I take that back, he did come out with the Classic that has the annoying lettering on the handle.

Is there anyone who actually like this?

I really like the idea of "Idaho Made" or "USA" on the knife, but there must be a better place to put it.

:D ..... I can't argue with that Mike, it was a bit "long". :D

Hey, I don't blame you a bit for trying to get what you want. I personally don't consider that a boycott at all.

To me- IDAHO MADE - looks just fine and it will not in any way affect my future purchases. BUT, that is just my opinion; each has their own.

However.... some of the posts I read, came across to me; as "strong arm tactics"... for lack of better words. That is all I was trying to address as asinine.... IMO. ;)

Have a good one and good luck finding what you are looking for.... :)
Well, among other things, I'm also a hypocrite. :D I emailed CRK to get a price quote but admittedly, did ask if the Idaho Made could be left off or relocated.

I don't think it's bad to be passionate about the things you like. Voicing your opinion here doesn't' mean you don't have a life.

The MM might not be considered ugly because of how it looks and it being more on the logo side of things if that makes sense.

And let's all be honest, if Chris packs up shop and moves to Germany, we'd still buy his knives. It's not where they're made, it's how they're made that makes them great.

That's not really the same though. ESEE is a logo and chances are you (specifically) probably don't like ESEE knives anyway judging by that one singular post.

Mike, That is the same. I like everything about ESEE except the large logo's being placed on it. IMHO it takes away from the looks of the knife. No different than what some are saying about Idaho Made. ;)

Chris D. :D
