If it wasn't for Blade Forums, how many knives would you own?

I know that being a member here keeps my interest up with knives. The same thing happened with Colt firearms and guns in general. I do like to share information, but at some point you say enough is enough and I have pretty much done that with guns. Selling now mostly....

So, how many knives do you think you'd own if it wasn't for Blade Forums? I suspect I would own about a dozen knives that I mostly use and a few that just lie around.

Would you even know about all these steels used in knives? The 440A thread made me consider my hobby.

A lot less than I do now. Before the internet and my getting a computer and discovering Bladeforums the same year, I very rarely had more than a couple knives at one time. The internet and forums stimulate something in the brain and make you buy more. It's been a long process of selling off and cutting way way back on my knife obsession. Now I'm down to just a handful of knives and trying to keep it that way. The more I stay away from the forums, the easier it is to be satisfied with just a couple knives.

Jackknife, you must be a lot like my Dad as I could never convince him to get a computer and certainly the internet was a totally foreign and un-necessary thing for him. He resisted getting cable TV for years..... private telephone line.... cell phone..... Dad asked me.... why have you quit writing letters? Email.... Dad is gone now.

The forums certainly stimulate the interest and that stimulates the buying and choosing process. I would rather have all the knives then loose the forums.

Ditto on the internet. Made buying almost too easy to resist.

No more filling out and snail mailing an order form and money order, waiting six to eight weeks for delivery. Or paper catalogs and magazines.

Can't really guess, since I buy and sell. I would have bought less, but I also would have sold less. One thing for sure is I would have more money in my pocket, but such is the price of getting to handle many fine knives. Some stayed some moved on.

More than I need but way less than I have. :D I wouldn't know much about the new "super steels" other than what I picked up on a major sword forum I used to frequent; I'd have a LOT less swords if it wasn't for them (most of my swords cost far more than most of my knives). I'd leave here too if it wasn't for soooo many darn nice and interesting people around here.

I'd have the same amount I suppose. I'm into knives and the 'net makes acquisition easy.

Because of BFC, I do have BETTER knives, and the exchange garners me better deals on the good stuff.

When I first got into knives I remember reading lots of Amazon reviews and YouTube videos. From there I found bladeforums. I think I would have had the same buying habits had I not found BF, but I think it turned me more towards higher end offerings.

Probably a few less. The big difference would be that some knives I own I might never of known about otherwise. As a knife-nut from before the days of the internet, magazines, catalogs, knife shows, and brick & mortar stores were how I researched knives.

Maybe about the same amount. I've had an interest in knives since childhood and have been collecting just as long. However, Bladeforums is certainly responsible for enhancing the quality and variety of knives that I am exposed to and now have an interest in. Spyderco, Gerber, SOG, and Cold Steel were about the only brands I was aware of initially. Twas a more simple time

Don’t know was already in to more expensive knives before I made an account and was planing on getting a XM-18 sense I liked my 561 so much.
The forum has made me buy or want more traditional knives than anything.

Steels I knew about the different CPM steels and such.

Without the internet chatter and looking back years, there is no way I would have ever bought a Benchmade knife if it wasn't for the positive chat overall. Price matters....

It's been posited that television was created to deliver advertising to the masses. The trend continues. I currently own only two knives bought on the Exchange (both traditionals).

I had bought many knives before finding this forum, but by reading many of the posting here i have picked up a lot of really good information, that i feel would have made me more careful about some of my knives i bought.

On this forum there is a wealth of knife steel and the heat treating of them information, to be found this information is really very helpful in understanding why some of my knives are harder to sharpen then others and why some need a lot more sharping then others.

Maybe 10-15. I always owned and carried knives. Now I just have many more and the quality has greatly improved.

I know I'd own this one .

Me too or at least the Schrade USA two-blade (250T) version. I started carrying and using this Schrade back in the 70's for my work and hunting knife.
